What is the point of adding the adBlue?
@TerryMcGearyScotland4 жыл бұрын
It's an anti-pollution measure that lowers the potentially harmful oxides of nitrogen being released in the exhaust. It somehow sprays into the exhaust as required (depends how you drive apparently). I think part of the benefit on my vehicle (a Skoda Superb 'Greenline' version in the UK) is that I don't pay carbon tax (we used to called it 'road tax'). So it may be tied in with not producing as much particulate carbon too for all I know.

Actually I was preforming this on an X5 35d and it has to refill locations. The main one was fine but I noticed the secondary refill location did like to blow back from the vent tube. No biggie. I just set the cap from the bottle on it and it just flowed back in the bottle. I should have cut the bottom of the bottle just enough to fill with liquid. But hindsight right. +Phen0mable I'm thinking to reduce emission to acceptable levels the cars will have to use much more adblue then they currently do. Not only that, I believe the exisiting SCR catalytic converter wont' be able to withstand the increase in adblue consumption. This is likely why there hasn't been a software based fix for VW's with SCR systems.

There is no need to cut off the bottom. The "ad blue" bottle cap simply unscrews. Twist it and you will see the cap comes off quite easily. It makes some clicks in doing so, but it simply unscrews off the bottle. Once the cap is off the bottle, you can simply fill up the bottle, put the cap back on and add the def to the car. Simple.

The bottle has a valve at the end. Once you unscrew it the valve closes, so the excess fluid doesn't come pouring out!

DO NOT DO THIS AS SHOWN, you will RUIN your car!!!!! AdBlue or EDF is really corrosive, you have to use extreme caution when refilling it. If anything spill to carpet, paint, seats. etc, you have to clean them with a wet cloth IMMEDIATELY. That's why I never let dealer do the job as I don't believe they will really take care of it. DO IT YOURSELF as it will only take you 10min every about 15000km (for 2014 Touareg)
