I'm amazed that I just found out who wrote and sang Refiner's Fire. Thank you Brian Doerksen, one of my all time favorite song to hear.

Dear Brian. Thank you for your feedback. Your testimony of how Refiner's fire was inspired is so beautiful. Btw I am now listening to Mission House for the first time and I love it ! So refreshing. Btw I have to say that your album Today recorded live in Edmonton is for me one of the purest form of worship I have ever heard. It is as true "today" as when it was written. Thank you for yielding to the Lord. It is a legacy to today's worshipper in spirit and in truth. May the Lord richly bless you and your family.

I agree with the adjustment to maker over master. YHVH is the Great I Am who was, is and always will be. He alone deserves the reverence for being our Maker. We have the choice to make to obey the creator of the universe. Our obedience reveals if we agree that he is the potter and we are the clay. Thank you Brian!

We always use the word, Master, in this song. Yes, God is love, and He is also our Master. There is something beautiful about the holy fear of God. We are not little gods. See John Bevere's excellent books: The Fear of God, and The Awe of God. Holiness is a journey we go on, with the Holy Spirit's guidance. God bless you!❤

I'm aware that a number of people will continue to use 'Master' As the songwriter I'd simply encourage you and others to try 'Maker' - it's a very small shift away from 'power-over' language (especially as I walk with my Indigenous & Black sisters and brothers) The concept of the 'Fear' or 'Awe' of God is important and is also a part of God as 'Maker' . and 'Designer' and the choice to 'respect' God remains . . . but now it's a bit more that God is our Maker and Designer so we are leaning into asking God to help us fulfill our 'created for' purpose . . . to love, serve and care from a pure heart.

@@BrianDoerksenMusic Thanks for clarifying. I appreciate your heart towards those who may have experienced the word master (kyrios in the Scriptures) abused. He is our Master and Maker. May we submit ourselves to Him willingly as one day every knee will bow under His mighty power. Love the song either way!

Love and fear and joy and dread= all mixed up in our amazing, awesome and loving Savior (and King, and friend, and Lover of my soul) and teacher etc. Probably not necessary to clarify any of these lyrics imo- The Holy Spirit is pretty apt at fitting hearts to His call to love and serve (and bow and follow and sit and worship...) Now , if they had some heinous heresy mixed in there- yeah, def. change 'em! 😉
