Refinishing a Rochester Quadrajet Carburetor

In this video I turn my hand to re-plating and refinishing a carburetor for a guy with an '86 GMC.
Products are from Caswell, but I barely know what I'm doing so:
A: don't use this as a tutorial
B: I barely know what I'm doing
C: don't hold Caswell liable for anything I say or do

Another good video Jayhawker. Thanks for bringing me along on the journey; enjoyed the ride. Haven't been disappointed yet. I had no idea that there are products that would allow me to do this plating stuff at home. In each of your videos I have learned at least one new thing &, in a number of them, I've come away with either new knowledge or new ideas. I like the idea of blackening the hardware as you did; I think it beats cleaning stuff & then painting it. I'm assuming that the black doesn't come off as easy as paint does. Later Gator.

You should zinc plate the bodies before "chromating" or more correctly, passivating them. It will make a huuuuuge difference!

Nice job on the plating! Will the process possibly harm the diaphragm in the choke pull-offs? I'm guessing that the metal was plated before assembly when they were manufactured.

Glass bead leaves a smooth shiny metal surface unlike sand or other abrasives wich leaves a ruff surface.

Sodium hydroxide based degreasers do decompose plastics and rubber .

Older rochsester 4gc bodys were green chromate dipped .

They also sell green chromate powder to do your own chromate.

Try green drab chromate for rochsester bodys and #1glass bead in a blasting cabinet is great to clean carb bodys and linkage parts?

The carb body isn't close to original needs a lot more time in that yellow dip you got there.
