Little pro tip I learned polishing an old rusty bike, if you have sand in your soil outside take that and enough water to make a loose paste and gently scrub, it's perfect for ornate patterns like the ones on your desk pulls, although taking them off the drawers is advised. You can get a pretty decent shine without a polish, heavy steel wooling, or sandpaper so there's no crazy scratching and whatnot, your pattern will stay pristine!

NO! Don't use a wire brush unless you want to create more scratches on the brass. There's a much better polish than Brasso. It's called Wizards Metal Renew. Learned about it from an auto restoring shop. It's wonderful! It doesn't kill off the brass surface.

Ariel, such a fantastic outcome! I'd not heard of soaking old screws in vinegar; thank you for the tip. I have an old family dresser and each drawer also has a skeleton lock mechanism. When I inherited the dresser, there was no key. Not that I want to lock the drawers, but thought it would be delightful to have a key. I took one of the drawers to a locksmith and they easily supplied me with a working skeleton key from their new supply. Just a thought for you, in case you want to add one. With each new post notification, I can hardly wait to see what you are up to with your home - uniquely you!

I honestly love the fact that my time zone difference is such that JUST as I decide to sleep, a new Ariel Bissett video pops up.... Sleep is for the weak haha!! So, this has nothing to do with the drawers, but I wonder how the vibe of the room would change if you faced the desk the opposite way? I totally get that it's nice to look outside, but you can spin quite easily to get a break from the screen. Plus I would want to stare at your bookshelves all day tbh... And it would be like a legit "please have a seat" office because you have a couch AND the armchair! Idk idk, just a thought !! Great video + tips! Glad the handles turned out the way you wanted!! Also, no idea if you meant for the unedited second in 4:06, but wow the forest really pops.

For some reason this video in particular - even more than all the others - made me long for the kind of confidence to do projects like this. And I actually don't mean confidence in woodworking or whatever, I actually mean stability. To trust that I'll have a desk for more than a year or two, that I won't move across the continent or the ocean and leave it behind. Having a house feels kind of unimaginable and honestly not even desirable for me right now, but having the confidence to really dedicate myself to my furniture... I genuinely wish that for myself.

Ariel: for future reference, if you want to clean tarnished or painted old hardware, try Bar Keepers Friend, "cook" the hardware in a thrifted crockpot you keep for that purpose, or both. See lots of tutorials on that process. Saves a lot of elbow grease and usually does the job.

Also: rubbing a candle stub on drawer runners (and zippers) does the same thing as the Howard's, which brings dry wood back to rich hues beautifully.
