We take Lisianski Strait to the wild Pacific Ocean and follow the exposed West Coast of Chichagof Island to the historic town of Sitka - once the capital of Alaska.

Mr Fleming Sir, your documentaries are amongst the very best on KZbin. Stunning imagery, interesting observations, beautiful and tranquil pacing and a complete lack of irritating music, slavish product pitches or cries for financial assistance. Thank you so much for offering a wider audience who most likely crave but will never undertake similar adventures, an opportunity to dream. And I can listen to your dulcet voice for hours...

If it was not for you films, I would never got the experience to see north of Ketchikan. That is as far a we were able to go on a friends cruiser, due to my time restraints. I flew back to the East Coast, as my parents continued the trip north with their friends the boat owners. As things often go in life, I was sure I’d be back to finish the trip one coming Summer. Life happens, illness and tragedy happen. I never made it back. So many many thanks for this gift in my dotage, it is appreciated! To have experiences like this and not smile or enjoy them, is so sad.

those dead trees are pine (pine beetle) spruce (Sitka) and true fir Abies species. Yellow cedar is quite rare, and quite unique. Cedar of all types can actually repair itself over years from fire, insect, or environment damage.

Your sailing videos are amazing and inspiring. It give me emotional comfort and relief from stress and strain we have every day life. Thank you. I want to sail on a wonderful voyage like you did. By the way - your recent videos have too much red color. It does not look natural. Please reduce "Hue" & "Saturation" feature in your video editor software when editing video. Anyway - we love your sailing videos. Thank you. We feel good when watching your beautiful sailing journey videos.

Wtf! How is this video 2 weeks old and this is the first time it showed up 😡 😤. I never miss Tony’s videos. There’s a Fleming in my future and I just can’t wait. Tony I’ll need a HD 360 camera on the mast somehow with a HD camera package with your best zoom capabilities. I’ve never met you but you’ve had a profound impact on my life. Hoping I get to meet you somewhere someday. Till then keep cruising sir.

As always... great video!! Quick question, though. What type of unseen hazards would Chris and Christine be looking for? (minute 2 or so of the video)
@FlemingYachts6 ай бұрын
Basically just rocks beneath the surface we might encounter if the wind or tide should swing us around.

8,000 years ago H. Gwai was grassland, and connected to the mainland. Grizzly bear country. Now it's black bear (and Spirit bear) country.

So far as I am aware, new hazards can only be advised to NOAA. The rock mentioned in this video is on the chart but carries no physical marker

One theory suggests Chirikov's men were lost at 58 N, which would put them at the broad opening of Surge Bay. In a big westerly swell breakers can roll across the entire entrance... I suspect it was farther south though, at 57N 50', the entrance to Lisianski Strait. The ebb is usually more treacherous than the flood. It would be good to have meteorologica data for those dates. What was the tide doing? Was there a westerly swell? Bigger vessels than the St. Paul's longboats have foundered at Surge Bay as well as the entrance to the Straits. I suppose we will never know.
@FlemingYachts6 ай бұрын
I had not heard of Surge Bay being a possible alternative but, coincidentally, I received a mail from someone suggesting the same thing. I have never visited Surge Bay but just looked it up on the chart. It is certainly very exposed and does not appear a likely spot to go ashore - but it may look different in reality. As you say, I doubt we will ever know for sure - or the prevailing conditions.
