Probably either PCR (polymerase chain reaction) which is one of the first lab procedures I learned as an undergrad, or CMF (charismatic megafauna) which are big, cute, animals like pandas and dolphins that get people to care about nature/conservation and such. It's not very many unpaid interns that get promoted straight to the Big Chair. I also think there's value in a CEO that is existentially skeptical of meetings. Also, Douglas Adams posited that only people who don't want jobs like that are truly qualified to hold them. So, yes, I'm sure John will be a fine CEO. Speaking of the Big Chair, I think we've proved Tears For Fears wrong in their Song from the Big Chair that says Everybody Wants to Rule the World. Clearly, John in an exception.

This is what makes the Greens so awesome - they've spent 16+ years being sincerely kind to each other. So when the shit hits the fan & they may be having big feelings, there's nothing remotely unnatural or awkward about them being sincere & kind to each other on a public forum. It's a tragedy that so many of us don't have that kind of relationship with our families & friends

I love the idea that up till now youve been sitting quietly at meetings and occasionally you'll pipe up just to say that interestingly everyone there has consumed 300 minutes of time on earth in this meeting. Then hank will say thank you for that observation john and that will have been your entire contribution till the meeting ends and you all leave. As someone who is also president of a not for profit that is exactly what i cant wait to step down and do.

John, You’ve hopefully gotten at least 1 million messages of hope and support for Hank (and yourself) while you and your families deal with it. Something I thought I would mention, in case Hank doesn’t know and he wants it: he can ask the pathology lab for recuts of biopsies. Basically, he can ask for his cancer on a microscope slide that a pathologist looked at and diagnosed. I know he loves microscopy. And that seems like a pretty BA thing to have. Maybe even framed or something. Who knows, he could have a tee shirt pattern made of it. Here’s hoping one day you get to see this because even if it’s many years later, the hospital will keep those slides for years and years. I’ve followed you from 2007 and this is the first time I’ve written though I have heard you speak in person before. Here’s to another 16 years of you and Hank.

John, you're doing amazing sweetie. Hank, if the "plushies within plushies" idea at 0:45 is a real thing you were pitching, you should know that yes, those do exist. You are both lucky to have each other. Hank do what you want. John do what you can. Someday, my dream is to help you on your mission, just as soon as I retire from teaching. ps - I love spreadsheets.

First of all: John, YOU ARE DOING A GOOD JOB! Secondly I´m glad that you are expanding the circle of things you feel confident and comfortable doing. For me focusing on ways I can expand (not simply leave!) my comfort zone is really helpful for my self esteem. Last autumn I´ve actually started to present different volunteering opportunities to high schoolers so they know their options besides university and apprenteship. It was scary at first but now I am excited every time I get to give a talk in a school. I´d love to read others experiences of expanding comfort zones as well - let´s all share being proud of our achievements, no matter how big or small!

I love the last bit...even though we all want Hank to rest, supporting him in what he CAN do is huge. Continuing to teach through my chemo helped me through it because I could do what I love and see my kids. If Hank is up for video making, I love that he gets to do that with full support from John...it may help Hank more than anyone can realize

You're so happy to do this temporarily because this will make great source material for your future novels and give incredible insight and context into developing certain characters, lol. I mean, how many authors get to do a completely different high level job for months to a year or so? It's such a great opportunity aside from what Hank is going through.

You know what I like about the Green brothers? You can't love one without loving the other. They are two, incredible, pieces of a jigsaw puzzle that fit, perfectly, together, creating an amazing picture. It is wonderful seeing how much they mean to one another. My brother and I had that type of relationship, before he died two years ago, and I miss his input every day. Always let your loved ones know how much they mean to you, before it is too late to express it.🤗❤

It just dawned on me what John and Hank are. Beyond the many things, obvious or not, they are curators of hope. I don't believe this to be an explicitly identified goal, but I believe the essence of it to be a driving force behind many of the forms of awesome they adopt. I can't thank you both enough, nor can I articulate why it's so important that you keep fighting the good fight, that you keep not forgetting to be awesome. You help to remind so many of us to do the same each day

Probably the most pleasing thing to see about all of this is how Hank is still around doing all the things he does making videos doing work DESPITE being sick. Sure maybe he feels like he has to, but I doubt it. I get the incredible feeling that he does what he does because he loves it and that despite being sick and everyone understanding if he wasn't going to work. It gives me this profound feeling that all of what he does is less work and more destiny to him. It is what he enjoys. Just as much as I get the feeling John does not enjoy being the one to step up but does what he can to make everything work. I love you both for what you have given us and everyone on the planet, you are both amazing. That's all I wanted to say.

The best CEO is the one who understands their weaknesses, encourages others in a positive manner, and helps their people do their best by both helping at the right time and staying out of the way at the right time. At least, I assume so, so far I'm like 1 one of those things and it changes each day. That being said, I think a Hank with a mohawk Bobble Head is needed in this world.
