Rupert Spira discusses relationships and perception as they
relate to consciousness. This video is an excerpt from SAND Anthology Vol. 5:
www.scienceandnonduality.com/p...
From an early age Rupert was deeply interested in the nature of Reality. For twenty years he studied the teachings of Ouspensky, Krishnamurti, Rumi, Shankaracharya, Ramana Maharshi, Nisargadatta and Robert Adams, until he met his teacher, Francis Lucille, twelve years ago. Francis introduced Rupert to the teaching of Jean Klein, Parmenides, Wei Wu Wei and Atmananda Krishnamenon and, more importantly, directly indicated to him the true nature of experience. Rupert’s first book is “The Transparency of Things”, subtitled “Contemplating the Nature of Experience”. His second book, Presence Volume I The Art of Peace and Happiness and Presence Volume II The Intimacy of All Experience has been currently released by Non-Duality Press.

Q: Why did the Self manifest in this miserable world? A: In order that you might seek it. Your eyes cannot see themselves. Place a mirror before them and they see themselves. Similarly with creation. 'See yourself first and then see the whole world as the Self.' ~ from Ramana Maharshi - Be As You Are -- The Teachings of Ramana Maharshi -- David Godman (page 126)

"How would the 'knowing' take place if there was no body-mind?" How would awareness know that it exists without body-mind? Where and when and how and why would it exist where it exists?

+Lorraine Prunty you probably studied the western philosophy only; this is the Indian philosophy of non-duality. Search 'advaita-vedanta' it is worthwhile...

+Lorraine Prunty He isn't talking about philosophy. He is talking about reality. He is saying that we are awareness. We can look and see that we are aware of being aware and there is the freedom. We no longer will believe that we are our thoughts and feelings. We are prior to them and don't need to be victims of them or swept away by them or believe we are them. This simple realization frees us.... you just need to look.

Lorraine Prunty Insofar as you endeavor to figure this teaching out, you’ll never grasp the essence and significance of it. First and foremost, it is an EXPERIENTIAL based understanding, not anything conceptual( though the recognition of it as the substrate of experience might readily enable you to explain it in some fashion to others; this BTW is Rupert’s genius as I observed when attending a retreat he gave).
