I saw the stream. Well put together. The terrain looked like Quatre Bras. I don`t play Black Powder but I picked up what was going on. You guys did a great job. Thanks

Part of the post game discussion we had centered on what would happen next. I don't think Tim was there for most of it. It went something like this. Uxbridge takes command of the allied army and following the defeat heads back to the channel ports for embarkation back to Britain. (my post discussion comments in brackets. Prince of Orange might have refused to join him because he wasn't a Field Marshal in the army of the Netherlands, which was the sole reason Wellington was given command of the Dutch/Belgians) He would have been harrased all the way probably by a single corps and not allowed to rally. Following the defeat at Ligny, Gniesenau now has no reason to keep close to Wellington and instead of directing the Prussians North to Wavre, in the absence of Blucher who is still missing, directs the Prussians to fall back on its supply lines and heads back to Prussia. The Netherlands goes over to Napoleon. This was basicly what Napoleon had intended, to prevent the Allies from joining and defeating them separately, and take the Netherlands back. (Then either use the time it would take for the Russian and Austrian armies to reach France to rebuild his army or use diplomacy to persuade them from attacking him again.)

Another great set of videos and the analysis was good. Something to add, perhaps, were some annotated, still-photos of the concepts and key moments - would really make the tactics come alive.

Really enjoyed all parts, however, have a couple of questions. Was wondering why the the battle in the "Forest" was done in line formations rather than skirmish formation as per B P Rules or did ya'll agree it being lightly forested ? Do wish the camera could have been on your end of the table ( realizing it'd largely be an obstacle to traffic ) as that was where most of the action took place, in particular a lot of the maneuver you were talking about. Really loved all the stills you were talking over in this video and the lessons you described through this video. Well done Tim, really really well done.

Thanks man! Yeah we used the open woods rule from Clash of Eagles. I'll be 100% honest, I don't know a huge amount about Quatre Bras, so I was more than happy to go with the other guys on that! Yeah, it's a shame about the camera position, as you can see when I tilted the camera up, there was no where to really secure the camera on the other side of the table. One thing I could have done is more taking the camera on a flyby of the table, so that's some really useful feedback, thanks! If (when!) we do Ligny, I think the table will have to be at 90 degrees to how it was at QB so hopefully that'll give a better shot of the table, though the camera will have to be higher to stop it being a 4 hour video of people's backs! 😅 Thank you so much for the support bud! Tim

@@NapoleonicWargaming If you get enough members, maybe you could get a drone with a camera for actual fly overs ? Yea, I know, the propeller blades could be a serious problem. What about a Helium Balloon ? No REALLY ! They actually had observation balloons demonstrated to Boney but he turned his nose up at the idea. I'll bet Suolt or Messina or Boney himself would have given their left testicle to see over the top of the ridge lines where Lord Nosey had hidden his battalions. Actually, there was a book of rules for using balloons during the Black Pow age but I was busy with my LotR figures & Renaissance games & models, fearful of the painting challenge of Napies. But I'm working on a custom balloon model myself and thinking about how it'd work on the table as more than just a vignette. But you could actually use a miniature with a camera. I know, so much work on experimentation and probably a dozen or more helium balloons, but think of the acclaim and you tube video glory ; ) So glad you're back in the game. I'll be doing a bit of miniature photography for you and the group to peruse, hopefully sooner than later. Oh, try and find the book "On Wellington at Waterloo" by Carl von Clausewitz. I think this is far and away his best work but he goes into great detail about Ligny, Quatre Bra & Waterloo. He's really kind to Marshal Ney , Scathing of Napoleon and more than objective regards the Prussians. I've checked it out from our Library 3 times and want to buy one of my own as soon as I can finc it at a descent price. That book on Napoleonic Balloons, around 100 pounds.!

Please can you tell me the best way to base napoleonic miniatures, each one with a 20 mm round base, but all inserted in 20 mm diameter recessed movement trays? Thanks
@NapoleonicWargaming3 жыл бұрын
We call them 'sabot bases' you can either use movement trays with round holes in, although you can also just use a standard one. If you're basing on 20mm round bases and using units of 24, and 'line formation' would be a movement tray that's 240mm by 40mm

Is it pronounced in Belgique " katra -Bra " ?
@richiehall30423 жыл бұрын
Nice summary but I would argue that there was very little of the Allied army present at Quatre Bras, there was really a division plus a few other brigades so waterloo might still be interesting albeit without our Arthur 😢
@martinradcliffe47983 жыл бұрын
A Waterloo without Wellington would be an interesting scenario in itself- with an Allied army low on morale,
@MK_ULTRA4203 жыл бұрын
Worst case scenario for the allies is a total rout for the British while the Prussians watch from afar, but that would mean Blucher would have to be bedridden and the British would have had to somehow slight or cheat the Prussians. Napoleon would eventually lose anyways after being surrounded by enemies who learned his art of war but maybe Belgium would be part of France if he could force a surrender.
