Well let's be real, in the same way the USSR was nominally a confederation of nations, in reality it was the Russians imposing their will on a broader empire. The same can be said for the UK and the English. UK is first and foremost a government by and for the English people. I'm not saying that's a good thing at all but this is what I've observed. Alot of people in those countries don't claim to be British, they're Welsh, Irish and Scottish. People in England are going to speak about there experience because they're in England, like the Irish will speak about Ireland and so forth. English people like every other British person is a creation of many things. Ethnicity does matter. The English people as an ethnic group is a thing. The English people should be thriving in their own homeland. They should be cherished for doing so as well. Nobody would complain if Kenya was inhabited by 99% Kenyans, they would argue that, that would be a good thing. Should they receive more diversity? Would it be too homogenous for Kenya to be 99% Kenyan? Britishness is an expression of Anglo-Saxon values and customs passed down for ages. 40 years ago when England was largely homogenous there was greater social cohesion, less racial, cultural, and ethnic tension. It was much more difficult to divide the people that resided in England. Now that "diversity" has taken hold look at the results. Tell me if it would be better if Britain was 99% ethnically British, or whatever we have nowadays... I know that one way, it would be more British in many more ways than one.
