Refreshing and resealing a big single cyl 4 strokes : 1/4

I would expect the valves to have worn and possibly leak a little, a top end refresh should catch all the wearing parts, a chance to set the valves up to spec :-D. Looked like a nice day, you just needed a couple of old milk bottle crates to sit on, just the right height for tinkering with engines :-D. When you disconnected the oil feed from the frame i was supprised, ive never seen a motorbike frame used for oil storage before. I know the engine was leaking oil but they get filthy anyway, too many nooks and crannies for the dirt to hide in. Ahh a loverly dog, loverly colour :-).

A little bit of leak,you will see that,but no play in the guides,wich is very good for us. A very nice day,and just today the temperature dropped,and it's raining...it's the end of summer here... I had no seen too this kind of set up for the oil too,it's already quite "rare" to have a sump pump on a bike I just know that EBR bikes use a similar concept,in the rear end not in the frame. hahaha for the dog ! His fur is quite clear and clearer as he aging,he is 13 now...he still looks like a fox but he was more foxy before,quite darker. He is still quite crazyand jump all around,so it's good : )

The uk weather is a little odd at times, a hot day with sun, and sometimes later on it rains and thunders, but some days it doesnt lol. But i would moan about the weather, we allways do LOL :-D. Perhaps the dog needs hair die/colour, there must be a salon that applys hair colour the balayage way, natural sun kissed hair LOL :-D :-D. Dog looks like a puppy again :)

Yes, +michaelovitch, my Yamaha has a dry sump system as well. I think they did it to increase the distance between the engine and the ground since it's a dual sport, quite well adapted to dirt and road if you ask me. No, my Yamaha has a dry dump opposite of the tail pipe at the back of the motorcycle, not in the frame.

On the teneré,it's an oil reservoir,with a dry sump. we have the same set up : )

Ahhh! You have that Yamaha. The one with the oil in the frame. Very cool. I kept thinking, that looks a lot like my motorcycle. I've started in on my first motorcycle. :) XT600 1989. What's your specifically? Ooof...I have nearly the miles that you have in kilometers. Oil is leaking from somewhere. I haven't figured it out yet, but I hope it's not also the headgasket.

It's a 600 xt 1994 with electric starter. Head gaskets often quite leak looks like on those bikes : (

michaelovitch There are still a lot of similarities. I have what I think is an oil leak at almost the top of the engine. Do they have valve cover gaskets like a normal car? Or maybe it's one of the ports to check the valves? Feel free to check out what I'm up to with my XT600 (1984-1989 model, no electric start :( ). Feel even more free that you comment that you have this video, if it hits spam, I'll approve it. Is that cool? We might get some cross traffic. :)

There are three ports to check the valves,each one have a rubber seal (O ring) wich can leak. the is the valve cover,wich is in fact the upper cap for the camshaft (one piece) wich can leak,the seal is silicone paste,or some sealant, goop.(no gasket). You can have a head gasket problem too,wich occured here...and it's often just under the exhaust manifold. The best is to clean the whole engine really good and to run it a bit,you should see from where it's leaking quite fast. I will watch your videos.
