ALWAYS make sure the brass tab in the bottom of the socket is touching the base of the bulb. You may need to raise the tab.

My light came on when I was removing the bulb and then went off again. I shook the light, and the assembly came out without breaking. However, if it's bad who cares if it breaks, just shake it and you don't have to take the whole top housing off. There are only 2 wires connections to the bulb socket, no tools required. How does this socket possibly go bad? It should literally last forever. Just a couple of connections. I have a light socket from the 80s that still works.

They made led light bulbs that last forever so light socket has to go bad now 😂
