There's hundreds of channels that do audio reviews on KZbin, but I've come to really appreciate the way that you approach the subject! Not many others approach gear reviews with your detailed yet straightforward tech/specs, relatable listening impressions/comparisons, and your articulacy in describing the impact of the devices on sound against such a broad number of genres and input materials! P.S. thanks for always avoiding hyperbole and superlatives and discussing things in real terms!

As a new susbcriber to your channel, I really enjoy your very knowledgeable and useful reviews. I have a Rega Elicit with which I’m very happy. I did some listening comparison with the Elex (to replace a Cambridge Audio Azur) and was more convinced by the Elicit’s performance. I’ve matched it with a pair of Spica TC 60 (vintage speakers, I’ve had them for about 26 years) but I think it’s time for a change (although they still sound great and deliver fantastic imaging and soundstage). Would you have any recommendations (I’ve thinking about Harbeths or Pro Ac). Best regards from Brussels.

Hi, great review, thanks. One question, I currently have a Cayin LA34 plus with a Linton and it makes me happy, so my question is, if I change to an Elex, is it an improvement? . Thanks
@analogholic_reviews2 жыл бұрын
Thanks, J Herrera. I must say I have not listened to that particular cayin. But I had the cayin a88t some years ago and found it awesome. Now switching the ElexR may or may not be an improvement depending on your preferences. I think the low frequency will be more controlled with the ElexR but without actual experience with the cayin LA34, I have a feeling the mids and highs may just be a different presentation and not necessarily better. What size is your listening room? Have tried NOS tube rolling?
@Mike82ARP3 жыл бұрын
Nice review. I've owned both the Elex-R and the Elicit-R using the Saturn-R as the front end. I really liked the Elex-R and thought I'd upgrade to the Elicit-R since it must more of a good thing, right? Well, actually, the Elicit-R is quite a different amplifier. So different, IMO, that it had a quite different sonic signature than the Elex-R- and not "more of a good thing". While the Elicit-R had a tad more definition and punch as one would expect give the increased power, I found it sounded thinner, as in less density of the music, than the Elex-R. Well, the Elicit-R was sold and I'm likely going to pick up another Elex-R. (also on the list is the Naim XS3 and Rega Aethos, but at 2-3X the cost of the Elex-R, they're going to have to really impress me). Whatever I end up with I can say the Elex-R is a steal for the price/performance it offers and something one could live with for a long time.

Hi Ajit. I have not listened to the Nova 300 but owned the Nova 150 and much preferred the Brio over the 150. Especially the built in phono. See link to my review: kzbin.info/www/bejne/pF7ElJKYi9aSjs0 . The ElexR far exceeds the performance of Brio. So I like the ElexR better than the Nova150.

The Elex-R betters the 6000A from a dynamics and tonal richness standpoint. I have not listened to the Nait 5si but have owned the XS2. I own the Marantz PM6006 stereo amplifier at the moment, using the NA6006 music streamer as source and would like to up my amps "omph" a bit. Thus my eyes fell on this amplifier, since I'm looking for a purist piece with good dynamics, tight bass and a little more punch than the Marantz. (I would also get a fair trade in deal for the PM6006 at my local REGA dealer) I'm running the Triangle Borea BR03 bookshelf spreakers which are very easy to drive, but I heard Jay from Stereophile saying that these speakers sound better and better moving up the quality ladder. So I'm hoping this, REGA/Marantz setup will be a good system, what do you recon? Since I'm only on a digital source it might differ from the all analogue you are refering to in this video. Thanks anyhow for this comprehensive review, please take care!
@analogholic_reviews2 жыл бұрын
Hi Joel. I think you will notice improved dynamics and bass with the ElexR. Note of caution tho: I've read and heard that the Triangle BRO3 may have a slightly tipped up HF. The ElexR isnt necessarily warm sounding. It definitely isnt bright either, but it could turn out to be too much of a good thing? Can you return the ElexR if unhappy with the speaker match? Just something to consider. Thanks for your feedback!
@JoelOman19802 жыл бұрын
@@analogholic_reviews I see your point. I think there's a 30 day money back warranty. I'll have to check closer. Amazing review. Thanks for that. I'm currently deciding whether I should upgrade from my Musical Fidelity M3i which are driving some ProAc Tablette Reference 8's. @@roddersh5396 yeah, I'm not sure it's necessarily about moving up a level more than changing the sound signature. If I could stretch to the Elicit I certainly would. Do you think the brightness of the MF might be toned down with either of the above?
@roddersh5396 Жыл бұрын
@@michaeltaylor9227 I've just installed my new Elex R upgrade from the Brio. Much more refinement, and not whilst slightly forward, the tonal density takes the edge off. There's also slight warmth. Amp still box fresh new about 7 hours run in only.
@analogholic_reviews Жыл бұрын
Yes, agree that the Elex could possibly inject slight warmth to tame high frequency response. Did you change anything else? Source, speaker cables, etc?
@roddersh5396 Жыл бұрын
@@analogholic_reviews Nope nothing else, everything else was the same. I found Elex sounds like a grown up Brio. More subtlety, sophistication, more bass, power and control, but still it's the Brio at heart. My cables are all copper. The source is a Zenstream which I think veers towards the warmer side. The DAC is an SMSL M500 which is fairly neutral. Speakers are Dali Menuets SE.

@analogholic_reviews2 жыл бұрын
Hi Gary, I believe so. But it's just my opinion as I don't have any direct experience with the Emit 30s. Nonetheless I looked up test reports and found one by an Australian Hifi mag. Although nominal impedance is published at 4 ohms, the tested min impedance on their sample dipped to 4 ohms with relatively benign phase angle shifts. So an easy amplifier load provided the amp is stable at 4ohms and IMHO the ElexR will fit the bill. Then again if you listen to the dyns at very loud levels in a very large room, you will need a more capable amplifier. Hope this was useful.

Has it ever crossed your mind why so many people put on KZbin videos of how much they love Rega - Elex-R? Let me just say that maybe, just MAYBE there's a reason for that :)

How does it compare to Brio?
@analogholic_reviews2 жыл бұрын
More open / spacious sounding, fuller tone and definitely better separation.

@@analogholic_reviews Thank you. I have a Marantz PM 6004 driving a pair of KEF Q300’s, I am not totally happy with the sound (sounds thin, bright at times), can you help me decide if changing the Marantz with Brio will help & be a better choice? Getting a good deal on a sparingly used brio. Thank you again for your reply ! I love your reviews:)

I'm afraid of recommending the Brio (even tho it's a great amp) if the problem may be with the Kefs or source. What are you using as source?

Hi Sudeep. You have decent a source. If you find the Brio at a good price go for it. I am still worried about your KEFs sounding bright. I don’t have direct experience with the Kef model you have but some folks have reported them a tad bright. Have you matched it with other amps?

Its impresive in beginning, but after time litl to sharp. Bass is good but not impressive. I sold it.

Sorry dude. You're talking about amps, soundquality and so on and your stream has such a worse sound on it. You should try to improve e.g. to put away your cellphone. the rest of your video is informative

All good dude. The newer vids have better audio. The cell was to control the camera.

I have a pair of Martin Logan 60XTs, and am considering the Rega Elex-R over the Arcam SA20 and Peachtree Nova150. Do you think the Rega would pair best? I do like a smidge of warmth
@analogholic_reviews Жыл бұрын
I would pick the Elex over both the SA20 and Nova150 for the tonal richness aspect especially if you like vinyl.

@@analogholic_reviews i love vinyl, and Elex was where i was leaning! Thanks, I'm freaking stoked
