I finally mentioned it to my counselor after waiting a long time. I feel heavy. But I feel strong for facing it. This is where healing begins 💓

For me, I call myself a SURVIVOR, instead of VICTIM. It's a word game to me. The day I begin to refer to myself as a victim is the beginning of my loss of will to live.

Perhaps even some different words can be helpful. Sometimes people get seriously injured accidents but we’re not at fault. It’s also possible the driver who crashed into them was in middle of getting away from a crime. On the police report, they describe the innocent person as t he ‘victim.’ But perhaps if we use words like “the innocent party” or the “injured party” we can separate innocent part from the criminal and their criminal deeds. Sometimes the innocent party in a crash fully recovers from their injuries. But very often they don’t. If someone loses an arm or a leg, then the person is left with a permanent injury. But it wasn’t their fault. And if someone recovers 90% - 95%, it’s OK if this person has a few days where they feel depressed over what happened. It wasn’t their fault, but they survived., and there’s nothing ‘wrong’ with them.

"For a man to use force to impose his will on a woman is a serious transgression..." "The world in the past has been ruled by force, and man has dominated over woman by reason of his more forceful and aggressive qualities both of body and mind. But the balance is already shifting; force is losing its dominance, and mental alertness, intuition, and the spiritual qualities of love and service, in which woman is strong, are gaining ascendancy." - Baha'i Faith

I have a loved one who has gone through this and she doesn’t believe she is strong, but I believe she is a VICTOR. She is not weak and she is not a victim, she is the strongest woman I know and I want her to believe she is safe even after the fact.
