Pro tip: If you have an LCS that submits books regularly to CGC then I recommend just bringing them in and letting your LCS do it, especially if you're new to this. Another perk of Taking your books to the local LCS to submit is they will usually inspect the book(s) and tell you if it's worth submitting or not, thus eliminating some of the mistakes Reggie mentions. They also prep and ship the books for you which makes life so much easier. Also: Some LCS's that submit books to CGC in bulk will give a decent S/H discount regardless if you're submitting one book, many books or if you have books from different tiers or have books that require clean/press services. So no real need to send things separately and complicate your life, just drop them off and pick them up when they're ready.
@kalebjones55813 жыл бұрын
That’s what I do anytime I want one I just go to the comic book store and they will either do it for me and call me when it comes back or they will look up how much it is and try to convince me to just buy one that’s for sale already graded because they say 9/10 times that I’ve asked them that it would be cheaper than paying to send it in

This was an ink transfer. The black ink was lifted from the black section and “printed” into the white section. Even if the white section could be cleaned without removing the gloss, the black section basically had “white” prints where the ink had been lifted. Sorry if that wasn’t clear in the video.

Don't you think CGC destroyed comic collecting ? There's no banter, no haggling, no speculation, no room for movement on price to negotiate. I love meeting people with comics that are raw and talking and negotiating... CGC just cuts out all fun of trading and collecting and speculating. Now as soon as a comic is printed they're bricked in the plastic. That means the comics that are valued ...because they're so rare for their condition , will allllll be CGC high grades. If I buy a new comic gonna look for the top and only submit it if it's top tier. Just seems off.

Do you avoid buying comics with a COA? For me it's not worth it, if CGC doesn't recognize it. Better to get your signature witnessed then slabbed. I wish I had all this information when I was younger. I have so many comics with COA. Now I avoid them.
@RegieCollects5 жыл бұрын
I don’t really buy signed books raw or graded all that often for my PC. If I am going to get a signed book, I’ll probably buy it graded. I learned from one subscriber that COAs can be sent to CBCS which I didn’t know. I don’t use CBCS so it’s less impactful for me but I want to throw it out there for folks reading this comment.

Cgc will give it a green label. You might be better off sending the book to CBCS who will verify.

One thing I discovered is occasionally a book, like last ronin, is considered a magazine by CGC. Sent in a prescreen 25 books including that one. They separately shipped me back 24 and the single Ronin, because they had a different book type. Realize how important it was to look at the entire invoice and make sure some of the books are not separated out. They otherwise were all of the same tier and services.

Not exactly sure what you are referring too because this video is several years old. If the book stays a 9.6 that’s probably because it’s a 9.6. With that said, a 9.6 can absolutely become a 9.8 if the 9.6 was never pressed and shows pressings defects.

I like to use $35 as the price for a modern book. Bulk would be $35 X number of books. CGC's fee schedule is here: www.cgccomics.com/submit/services-fees/cgc/. I'm being cryptic about price because there are discounts involved based upon your membership. The costs to ship are also variable.

I have 13 issues of Amazing Spider-man 361 1st print (one signed) I'm thinking about sending into CGC. All were bagged and boarded upon purchase and never read (maybe one was read carefully, no damage). If they look NM+ (which they do) there is no need to pay to press, correct?
@azieran1004 жыл бұрын
Also, when they say fair market value, does CGC expect you to guess the fair market value without a CGC grade or fair market value with a CGC grade, because that's a huge difference.
@RegieCollects4 жыл бұрын
Nice! Congrats on those books. If you are thinking about sending those books to CGC, I would encourage you to inspect those books front, back and inside (pages). Just because they have been bagged and boarded does not mean that they are perfect. I’ve seen lots of books stored that have emerged damaged due to bugs, moisture, overpacked comic boxes, etc. You should also be looking for fingerprints which could impact the grade. Upon inspection if you believe they they are NM+ which is a 9.6 and above-look at the price difference between a 9.6 and 9.8 and ask yourself if that price difference is meaningful to you. I say that because a press could be the difference between a 9.6 and 9.8. Also, if the book will be handled by the creator to be signed, there is always a chance that they make wrinkle the book and/or leave a fingerprint which will impact the grade. Personally, I rarely if ever send anything without having it pressed or pressing it myself. I prefer not to take chances.

See Regie catching bricks! Don't be like Regie, don't catch bricks! Much respect for showing mistakes man, everyone wants to show their miracle once in a lifetime finds or deals. Transparency for the win.
@RegieCollects5 жыл бұрын
You’re awesome. Do not catch a brick. Especially when you are throwing the bricks. Totally a self imposed errors. I hate making mistakes because I relive them mentally. With that said, I won’t hold myself up as being perfect because that’s not real. We all make mistakes. The goal is to be better. I appreciate you bro.

great stuff as always Reggie, I really learn a lot from your videos.I was wondering if you had ever done one on how you personally grade a book before CGC submission. Specifically books in lower grade but still valuable and what you think are defects and virtues, Maybe you could do a tutorial on degrees and severity of common flaws such as spine stress, creases, corner blunting, color break, dents, dimples , staple tears etc. etc. I'm somewhat unsure of my grading skills and and I could really benefit from your knowledge before I start submitting my comics ,mostly bronze age, to CGC. THANKS!!
Thanks for the good protein! I will pay more attention to your tips next time I ship out.

Regie, do you recommend getting Golden Age books pressed? It seems scary to me for some reason
@RegieCollects2 жыл бұрын
I think that almost all books benefit from a clean and press. Generally speaking books can get at least a .5 grade bump if not more (depends upon dirt, pressible defects, etc). It’s your book at the end of the day, so you’ll have to decide what you are comfortable with.
@vonslagle2 жыл бұрын
@@RegieCollects I sent some in to CGC and didn’t get them pressed. I think the next batch I will and see the difference. I have experience in getting sports cards graded but this is my first time with comics. Thank you so much for the advice! I’m sure I’ll have more questions

I near submit with out a press and clean. I've learned the hard way. :-) Good luck with the grading.

Regie! - I'm still fairly new to your channel (and so glad I found it!). This vid was excellent! Loved seeing what you went through and the lessons you learned from everything. I've had my comic collection of 800+ comics for 30 years - and finally decided to start figuring out how to sell them. Your info is super and I Iook forward to every video 😄

@@RegieCollects Yeah you are right about thorough inspection. I was going only off the front cover. Looking under light for dents and creases is very important.

Thanks, Reg. Took me 3-4 submissions to get the CGC thing down. Membership status, like kind books, modern grade cut-offs etc. Still on learning curve. My mistake video would be a lot longer!

Lol. I hear you bro. Thankfully we both have turned a corner. These books are from two years ago. Fast forward to today and I’m pulling boxes of 9.8s. 😂👊🏾

Before you started doing your own cleaning and pressing, did you use the cgc 5$ option to screen the book prior to their cleaning/pressing? I've done this for a couple books since I didn't quite trust my own eye yet to catch all the defects
@RegieCollects5 жыл бұрын
No. I never used the prescreen prior to pressing my own books. The prescreen is a newer service that I didn’t leverage until just recently.

I am actually pretty salty I inspect my books rigorously and I just got a book back at a 9.4 because at some point it took a good whack to one of the corners. I package my books securely. I wish their was recourse. Kind of makes me hesitant to slab more..

Great video and thanks for unlocking that shipping back fee puzzle. I put together a submission and was flabbergasted by the return shipping fee. Having the beginnings of some kind of illness, the explanation on CGC's site were not clicking. I will now spread out my submissions over the next few weeks. And I have been using the ComicBookRealm.com 38 step grading assistant and it is a big help. The first few take a few minutes but once you do a dozen or so times the logical process it utilizes definitely ups one's "grading game"

So what do we do when we go to a book signing at our local comic shop and they dont have "COA's", when we send the books in to get slabbed what happens? Do the recognize it as authentic or is a "blemish" on the book?
@RegieCollects5 жыл бұрын
If you send it to CGC, it will get a green label. If you want the signature verified, you can send it to CBCS. They will verify the signature for a fee. Someone posted that you can send the COA if you have it to CBCS.
