Thank you for this video. Im about to submit some books to CGC shortly. This helps out tremendously as 1st time submitting can definitely be overwhelming.

All very straightforward, but the most perplexing part wasn't addressed. You wrote down the value on the books, but how are you going to know the value until you have it graded? I can give a general assessment of my books and my own perceived value, but let's say I grade a book at a 7.0 and it comes back an 8.5 (or the reverse) then how does that affect what I'm charged? And that also takes into account that I know what I'm doing (I've been collecting for over forty-five years); are they expecting a novice to be grading their own books and assigning a grade to them? And then looking up values for various grades? The whole point of grading is for the grading company to tell ME what the grade and then value is.
@popculturejunkies29862 жыл бұрын
The value is whatever you feel it's worth. It's a number you'll have to defend for insurance claims should something happen. For most of us, it's what we paid for a recent acquisition. For others, it's log on ebay and check recently sold auctions of like items. What it's graded won't affect the charge. The charge from CGC is solely based on the raw market price of the book. I sent in a batman adventures 12 and listed it's value as 399 to get the lowest priced tier grading. Cgc adjusted the price, knowing the book on average is 600+.

@@popculturejunkies2986 Interesting that you mentioned a Batman Adventures 12, which I also submitted in person at NYCC 2019. I checked my submission form and the guy put the value down as $400..so I only paid $20 for grading it. It came back a 9.6.

I’m super nervous about sending my Ultimate Fallout 4s. I wish the would do onsite grading again.
@popculturejunkies29862 жыл бұрын
Chris, who you can see in some of our earlier videos, has sent MULTIPLE UF 4's in. I get the wariness, but it might be one of the most graded modern keys out there. Bottom line: If you want to maximize potential value, get them graded. If you know a reputable presser, have them cleaned and pressed first. I too wish they would do onsite grading, man. Cons will be so much better once they do.

Information is helpful. I have some Silver Age comics i went to send to CGC and i'm gonna use the Walkthrough service. You should also suggest to have your comic books pressed before sending it to CGC. I hear they don't do a good job at pressing. I'll probably let a 3rd party company press my books and then ship it to CGC.
@alvinphilmlee51 Жыл бұрын
What 3rd party pressing service do you recommend?
@eric4life497 Жыл бұрын
@@alvinphilmlee51 I would say find a local comic book shop that also has a pressing service. That's where I got my books pressed. If you're looking for a well known pressing service try Impressive Comic Book Pressing Services. The one you don't wanna do is send your books to CGC and let them press your books. Because takes too long and from what I hear they don't do a good job.

straight foward bro thanks for the info, I have 1 question how do you determine the price of the comic?
@popculturejunkies29862 жыл бұрын
If it's modern, and 400 and under you pay one price, and over you pay another, higher price. So every comic under 400, I submit with a worth of 399. Every comic over 400 I submit with the real price. Some people try to game the system. I did with a batman adventures 12. Submitted with a worth of 399. Cgc caught it and increased my price, lol. But there's others that I've gotten through. The risk is, if something happens, insurance is paying based on your price given, not the market.

Great video! This is the first I have found using that submission form. Do you happen to know if I can send in a book to get pressed, with fast tracking, and get it graded, WITHOUT fast tracking the grading part? When I try to do that, I am forced to pay for fast tracking for both, which they charge $15 each, an extra $15 per book I would rather not spend. I have done some research and called CGC, the person on the phone did not know the answer. Do you happen to know a way to do this? Thanks in advance!
@popculturejunkies2986 Жыл бұрын
I honestly haven't used ccs pressing with fast track. I'd also recommend not using their pressing service. Chris has for a few books. Got no noticeable bump and a wayyyy longer turnaround time. See if you have a local presser who can do it first.

What if you have a comic that is numbered like 120 out of 200 and have a card of authentication. Do I send the card in to let them know is numbered or send a note instead thanks
@rmartin28192 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the tips! I’m wondering how clean the box you send the comics in needs to be? I reuse boxes for shipping but I make sure the comics are well protected and cushioned with bubble wrap so they don’t get damaged.
@popculturejunkies29862 жыл бұрын
Sorry, had some personal stuff come up and have been away. It doesn't need to be crazy, shiny, new. The most important part is that it isn't damaged, has straight sides, good corners, etc. A grimy, potentially water damaged box will likely get rejected.

Great tutorial on submitting comics... I just want to ask you a question. When I was on the phone recently with a rep from CGC I happened to mention that I selected Fed Ex Ground for my books to return back to me. The rep stated that they had issues with Fed Ex and even UPS because of reported damages to the cases and he recommends using USPS instead. Now, I kind of do not accept that because I have been hearing of their quality control of which is not so adequate. Have you heard of their issues with quality control or is it true regarding companies like Fed Ex or UPS?
@popculturejunkies29862 жыл бұрын
I've always used FedEx for return shipping from cgc. No issues. I've had issues with multiple UPS shipments: broken lightsabers from disney, broken airsoft guns from evike, etc.
@bivio12 жыл бұрын
@@popculturejunkies2986 Hey, thanks for your replying and commenting on my concern with CGC and that of Fed Ex. I too had no issues with Fed Ex when it comes to any items I ever ordered and I also agree with you regarding UPS. My take is that I think that CGC rep failed to address their quality control issues instead it was easy for him to blame broken slabs, etc on the Fed Ex handlers.

Step 1: Avoid CGC and get your books slabbed by CBCS or EGS instead.
@popculturejunkies29862 жыл бұрын
I mean, I'm not typically in the business of losing value on my investments on purpose, so I wouldn't advise that. They do have their place, though. I have a signed book coming in that I will have to use cbcs for the sig verification on.

@@popculturejunkies2986 I feel CGC is simply not caring about quality control of even good customer service at this point, too many issues that a bunch of KZbin vids point out, the biggest one to me was hearing of books damaged while at CGC.
@popculturejunkies29862 жыл бұрын
@@mrsolodolo967 The books damaged at CGC is very hard to prove. Have I sent things in I'm pretty sure didn't have a crunched corner? Yeah. But am I positive? Nah. And like I'm on KZbin looking for flicks, be careful what you believe. There's a lot of people selling wolf tickets on this platform. I do agree 100% their customer service is garbage. Honestly, I have said many times, if CBCS were run by competent people, CGC would be the second tier company fighting for relevancy. They just don't have a competent company to challenge them. Yet...
