Aside from the lovely and beautiful voice, how wonderful to be able to watch such a gifted musician and see only peace and tranquility of expression. So many current singers seem to be in "pain" when they sing. It should never seem to your audience that you are hurting when you sing. It should appear effortless. What a wonderful performance!

Thank you for posting this beautiful solo. The second half of the aria is from Matthew 11:28-29. Such a beautiful pairing of biblical texts (from the KJV of the Bible) by Handel and the librettist, Charles Jennens. He shall feed His flock like a shepherd; and He shall gather the lambs with His arm, and carry them in His bosom, and gently lead those that are with young. (Isaiah 40: 11) Come unto Him, all ye that labour, come unto Him ye that are heavy laden, and He will give you rest. Take His yoke upon you, and learn of Him, for He is meek and lowly of heart, and ye shall find rest unto your souls. (Matthew 11: 28-29)

I love one thing about this - sometimes this aria is sung by a mezzo in the first part. I just liked how she sounded really human there, maybe like a young girl, with some little imperfections, because it was a bit low for her, and then in the second part she finally had the absolute control over her beautiful voice and sounded like an angel. A really lovely performance!

Chiamaria - I don’t like making negative comparisons in principle, but I must disagree with you. I listened also to Bonney, whose rendition I also love, but Regula’s mezzo is clearly stronger, and her soprano IS angelic, and very moving. But as I said, I love both performances.

The piece was originally written in B flat *only* for soprano voice. Not sure who and why added the 1st part in F for Mezzo. Certainly it was not Haendel.

Two voices normally sing this aria from the Messiha: mezzo-soprano and soprano. It also works like that. I like Regula Mühlemann from German-speaking Switzerland very much, she sings fantastically, but two voices are provided for the original.
