All dual-sports begin here. Yes, here. Not with the XT500, not with the SR500 and certainly not with the scramblers in the 70's. Modern dual sports began in 1985 with this plastic trail bike by Yamaha.
And all body-modifications tell me is this: "My parents are garbage and I'll cheat on you."

The second main jet. These carbs actually rock if you get them dialed in. Doesn't really "kick in" if you get it tuned right, just smooth power everywhere, and up to 100 mpg. Most of these sort of bikes have CV carbs which are very slow to respond and kinda crap on a single.

I haven't tried to out run the cops since the early 80s, but it's not the speed you can get on the 405, it's the speed you can get down the railroad tracks - I would have loved the XT350 from '79 - '83, i.e., before KIDS.

My first bike was a '89 XT350 back in 2004, it was outdated long before then but man it was fun to ride. I just remember that if you stalled it out before it was fully warmed up it was a PITA to get started again. One day I jumped it over a railroad crossing repeatedly and got huge air, got home and a few bolts were missing. Looking back it was pretty dumb and dangerous but she handled it fine and landed like a kitten. Thanks for the flood of great memories.

Steven Zettel Because that is not the same kind of bike, you ignorant fucktard!
@wonderbubble3980
@wonderbubble3980 10 жыл бұрын
***** I am seriously astonished at *two* things! First off, I'm amazed, I never knew there was a difference between a 2-stroke 500cc and a 4-stroke 650cc! Well, besides the fact that the CR500AF is designed for motocross and the KX500 is designed for desert racing and motocross, while the KLR-650 is for offroad oriented adventure touring and the XR650 is a dual-sport/enduro bike. Second, I'm absolutely astonished and amazed that you honestly thought I didn't know the difference between the bikes. Seriously. I am fully aware that the CR and the KX are not the same as the KLR. Yet, apparently, though I never said or made any implications that they might be, I am now an "ignorant fucktard." Yet, interestingly enough, neither are the KLR and the XR. As I just pointed out above, the KLR is a budget adventure touring bike, with lean towards off-road use. It's designed to be bulletproof, hold enough gear for a number of days, and go around the world without maintenance, whether that trip is on highways or offroad trails. The XR, however, is a enduro/dirtbike. However, I'm going to guess that you meant the XR650L, which is a dual-sport/trail bike. It's as related to the KLR as either of the other bikes. In fact, the XR (not the XRL/XL) is probably more closely related to the KX than it is to the KLR. So, if you would like to continue arguing over whether or not I am an "ignorant fucktard," go ahead. However, I can provide examples and facts to your being a complete asshole, whereas you so far have nothing to my being an "ignorant fucktard." (which, by the way, was completely uncalled for and unprovoked).

High rpms dont work offroad? Really? Are you serious? I wonder why my wr250f has twin cams, revs to 12,500 rpms and works exceptionaly well offroad. The xt 350 has twin cams and twin carbs to make power down low, and up high. It's called a flat torque curve, google it.

I laid my XT 350 over on an old, unused trail at Lake Travis in Austin, Tx. and the carbs flooded. I kicked and kicked and was sweating like Rosey McDonald in a long line to an 'all you can eat buffet.' I had run out of water to drink and poor on my head when I realized that if I had broken a leg, I could've died out there in that Texas heat. The bike finally started and I never road on trails alone after that. Aside from that, it seemed pretty quick. I liked it well enough for what it was. My favorite Yamaha was my first bike, a '74 DT 100. Fun little bike!

keagles lol this bike is actually loved by some people i personally don't see a nitch between 250 and 400 but someone else will see a good price break from a 400 and lets be honest no 250 street legal enduros are very popular and this thing has always been there

Today I rode the crap out of a 2014 xt250, and I have to admit that it was super fun. I have a buell xb12scg and I never thought I would have fun on a lightweight thumper with no power.

Dunno what`s wrong with that one, but mine`s done 36,000 miles and starts first kick every time I go to it....even if laid-up for 3 months. That`s in scuzzy Blighty weather too. All wiring corroded, that`s about only problem, morning`s work, cleaning/replacing connectors, and some wiring. Usual carb overhaul. Change engine oil & filter every year. Bob`s yer aunt, as they say in these times.

its a 2 barrel vacuum secondary quardajet.....(which is a 4 barrel i know....cut the bitch in half) thats brilliant... the 2nd carb will open exactly wen its needed.....engine vacuum = engine load start getting a higher load, she opens up and gives a nice rich AF for the high load yet will stay closed or partially open when needed as well under mid load its exactly whats found on almost all mid 80s GM stuff....q-jets with vacuum secondaries i personally prefer the caveman mechanical 2nd-aries.....being able to make it intake moan on command (giggity) wastes fuel....but their is something about passing some asshole while turning as much fuel into noise as possible.... also....a good set up carb is just fine ive got my 1974 kawi g5 100cc smoker's (11hp of rotary valve fury) carb dialed in fun little bike for running down the street to the gas station for cigs or something simple (so much take out has been carried between my knees on that g5) first gear on the g5 also is only useful when you want to go straight up a wall the gap from 1st to 2nd is large....so you have to wind out 1st however, the rotary valve and port tuning makes SO much low end torque......but it trades a screaming top end for low end idk man.... if you are ever in NE MT stop by..... their is just something about that g5 the way it looks......the way it rides.... even my 6 foot 5 180 pound ass has so much fun on it.....ya cant hurt it, it rewards rev matching.... big trail of blue smoke behind ya (variable rate oil injection pump.....forces oil into main bearings! controlled by split throttle cable) its like a better looking honda grom.....ya cant stop your self from hoon-ing around, pissing people off, with a big smile on your face

News flash... I have an XT350, 1990 Suzuki DR350SE & a DRZ400S. By FAR and away the DRZ 400S is Faster, better suspended, better brakes, 0-90 in the blink of an eye. Yes the Xt is a ball to ride but you cant realy comapre it to a DRZ400. My Dr350SE is just about equal to the XT

Strangley small swingarm. Wonder if that's a cut corner or if it's gonna be a problem. RCR mentioned theres metal dowel reinforcing it so thats certainly not confidence inspiring. Wouldn't see that move on a Honda, that's for sure. But yamaha never was a competitor in the dualsport market were they? Back in the early 2000s I remember the next thing you do after getting one was getting rid of one lol.

Really like this guy's videos. But he doesn't know what the dual carb and 4 valve head are for. The 4 valve head is for high rpm high airflow and the dual carb is to effectively have the bike running on ONE carb and ONE intake valve at low revs and loads to improve low end torque as well as efficiency. Honda do something similar with the newer V-TEC CB400's, they however control the opening of the valves so you have a 2 valve head down low for torque and better fuel efficiency and then a 4 valve head up high when you can make more power than with the 1 intake and exhaust.

I have an XTZ125 yammy, and damn, what a brilliant bike, even with the stock tires you can get it over anything truly, you get like 12hp but the bike is a little over 100kg. Carburated, thin, tall, and an agricultural cutsy thumper sound, its the perfect bike even for today standards, everything is well put together and you get more ground clearance than bigger bikes because well its so light it doesn´t matter. It might be one of those bikes that never hit the US market and that sucks, for every douche riding a grom you´d see smart buyers abusing the xtz125.
