@999benhonda9 жыл бұрын
you nailed a key problem...Honda's refusal to sell a bare bones car. The EF and EG are so loved because they are light and simple. There was nothing on a EF you didn't want or need. Today, they don't think they can sell a car that is stripped down, even tho a small 4d car SHOULD be a stripped down car. If I wanted a upmarket or luxury type car I would buy a fat midsized car. the purpose of small cars is econo, cheap cost, simplicity, ect. If you take away the simplicity...add weight then you screw up the formula that makes a good hatchback! Sadly, just about every car maker has done the same damn thing. The current civic weighs MORE than the 1989 Honda accord did!

If you lower the Fit and fit 6" wide wheels understeer is non existent, in fact you get lift off oversteer and because it's 200mm shorter wheelbase than the EK Civic it likes to turn even better. Unfortunately because it has torsion beam it doesn't handle mid corner bumps as well as the double wishbone on the EK Civic base model.

My 08 Fit has gone through sever hard winters here in the Midwest and has never leaked in any of the sport you mentioned. The motor has 100K miles on it, its tired, when is the last time it had a tuneup? Did you dyno the car to know what it actually makes. Just saying its slow and laughing at it supposed 117Hp is not good enough. No car, especially ECO cars dont make the advertised HP. Its a 1.5 LT ECO car they are all slow. Its all relitave any way, slow to what? A corvette, Evo, some dude on a 5 speed bike? My Fit is as fast or faster then 8th gen Civics/RSXs does that make them slow? does that mean the Fit then is faster then a Civic? You are also wrong about the sport only coming with Fog lights and the lipkit. It also gives you 15" alloy wheels. A upgraded sound system, Keyless entry and cruse control. WHen THe Fit came out it was a better built, and better quality car then What any of the other guys where offering at the time. I am sure that still holds true with the Newer Gen Fits.
@VonGeggry5 жыл бұрын
Yah I'd disagree on the better quality and better built. Maybe more power and better features but I'd argue the Yaris is better built, or at least an equal, and cheaper across the board. Not quite as good of an engine (in effeciency and power I imagine reliability is marginally better on the Toyota side). Worse features on the base package, and worse safety ratings, but I wouldn't say build quality. And if I had to chose between the two of them I guess I'd take the Fit if they were the same price and condition. But Honda tax so that never happens.

If you are considering buying a Fit... DON'T. Buy the Yaris instead. I have a 2010 Fit, and even though it NEVER broke down, and it's still working, after 40.000km the engine starts doing awkward valve noises, and you have to fully replace the brakes. But that's not why you shouldn't buy a Fit. I'm a mechanic here, and one day a client came in with a Fit with scratched cylinders due to revving the engine when it was cold (the piston rings broke). There is no way to fix the engine. Honda made it so it was a disposable car. If you want to refurbish the engine, you can't. You have to get a brand new block just because one cylinder has a scratch.
@logmegadeth7210 жыл бұрын

My country has strict regulations against motor swaps. If you want to use it legally in the street, you have to declare the car as defective, get an engine that has all the paperwork and is classified as running, get it into the car and then declare the car in good condition. All the process takes more than a year and it demands a lot of money.

It's not fancy, or showy, but it is reliable. I got mine new in 2007 for $16,500 (cheap little windup toy of a car) and now at 11 years old it has almost 200,000 miles on it. It has never had any serious issues, only minor transmission issues that any automatic transmission will get with age and some problems caused by it being fitted with low profile tires. It's not glamorous but it will most likely survive the apocalypse. Here's to 10 more years and another 200,000 miles!

Hundreds of new Fits arrived at Richmond on the rail, (They were produced at a new plant in Mexico I think.), only we weren't pulling them. They sat on the lot, hoods were opened, gas caps were examined. Factory reps wandered from car to car. There were questions about the paint, as well as whaterever else was wrong. After a couple of weeks, AII the Fits were loaded back on the rail and sent back to the factory. A few weeks later they returned, we started pulling them, and they seemed fine. We were never told what the problem was.

This Honda is luxury compared to the one I had in highschool. It was an '85 Civic 3-door hatch. Not the DX. Not the 1500. Nope. The base. The 1300. The most stripped down modern era vehicle I have ever seen. 4-speed manual, with a long metal stick with a rubber boot attached to the center hump where there was no console of any sort, just a shifter and e-brake. Crank windows, manual locks, manual adjusting side mirror (not mirrorS...nope, just one on the driver side). No power steering. No air conditioning. No intermittent wipers. No fuel injection. Very little upholstery, mostly vinyl with a little bit of carpeting. No rear window defroster (in upstate NY...yeah, that was nice in the winter). No cigarette lighter, not just talking the lighter itself, but no D/C port at all. Just a blank plate where it would be on the "DX" model. Hp was in the ballpark of 70. May have been a touch less. Rode on 13" steel wheels with 4 lugs. So I told you what it didn't have. What did it have? It's a short list. It amazingly did have power assisted brakes, it had an AM/FM 2-speaker stereo, and it had a locking gas door...but I think that was just a Honda thing at the time, not an option. It also did have an OHC rather than a pushrod...which actually was fairly advanced for it's day. Overall, no-frills motoring at it's finest. And to top it all off, it was gold with diarrhea brown interior.

I have a 1990 Honda Civic LX (4-door) that I got off my cousin for $300. My dad and I restored it to mostly good condition, and I've had it for 6-7 years now. 215,000 miles and still going strong. Such a good car. And it doesn't leak and has automatic seatbelts :)

Well designed small cars is what made Honda famous. Given the design parameters of an "econo-box", the available technology, and cost constraints - um no, it's one of the most fantastic cars in it's class and practically every major car mag will back that up. Designing an affordable car for the world market is the epitome of compromise. There aren't a lot of cars that have quite the same balance of fun handling, efficiency, flexible roomy interior space, decent safety, and long term reliability.

***** Yes, the Cub mobilized much of the world (especially Asia) and put Honda on the map. I'm thinking more of how Americans came to know Honda as an excellent small car manufacturer, which would probably be their stuff from the 80's and 90's - and of course the whole sport compact crowd...

I laughed at the "Sport" part at 6:11. I know the feels. I have an Acura TL A-Spec, which means it's got the 1 inch lower suspension and the ground effects kit. The suspension makes the handling fun (FWD oversteer yo!) and the ground effects look cool, but the two combined means that the car will scrape over medium sized insects in the road.

I deliver pizza in a 1st gen. Fit and it's been amazing. It's coming up on 287,000 miles and the only things I've done is replaced the clutch once, and general maintenance. I'm about to replace the shocks and struts (this has been a long time coming) and the original serpentine belt didn't even break until 285,000 fucking miles. This car just keeps going. I'll definitely replace it with another Fit when I have to.

I drive a Honda Fit Sport. Most reliable little car that has never given me a problem, over countless long commutes. She's my pal. I love how normal she is while also making me feel like I'm in a weird lil go-kart. I love her windshield with the ample glass and yet horrible blind spot that sits exactly where pedestrians should be visible at a crosswalk. I'll drive the Fit until she crumbles. I guess you can say that I love her, for her. 💕

When i needed a new car my dad offered to help me out, he took me to look at a base 2010 5speed fit unexpected while i was ungodly hungover. I threw up while he looked at the car and couldn't even drive it when i was supposed to go on a test drive. Well, guess who got a fit that day? Me. I woke up the next day and thought, "what did i just let happen?". From a car guy stand point i was pissed off, but little by little, every single day that fit grew on me. Now with 218,XXX miles on it, it is hands down the most practical car I've ever owned (out of 8). Dare i say, i love it?

I have the JDM spec 2003 Honda Fit GD1 (base version, but it has ABS, Airbag, A/C, and leather steering wheel). and it is still going strong at.. No leaks, no breakdowns, no nothing, only regular tuneup lol. somesay the GD Fit VTEC is faster than the i-VTEC from the GE Fit.

I have a 2006 GD1 and oh my goodness, did it leak! There was literally a pond in the boot well, and the previous owner had given up keeping the spare in there because it would always rust out. Fixed it eventually: the final leak was behind a brake light. Mine doesn't even have the fake VTEC, just the 1.3 L 8-valve i-DSI. But I look at people with shiny big new SUVs and count my blessings having a car that is small and shitty enough that it causes me zero concern. Oil changes are cheap, and there's no warranty to worry about voiding, so I have no qualms about trying my hand at things like valve adjustment. I love it.

+RandomReviews Same thing with a lincoln Town Car, early 90s Cadillac deville, Buick Roadmaster. (except for gas mileage) A Lexus LS 400 fulfills ALL of this without looking as ugly and being more comfortable and doesn't leak. They could also fulfill this with a nissan van that hauls more stuff, is good on gas and, again, doesn't leak, and may even keep it value.

This car may have come from Honda's early bloated-car days, but I got a 2007 base model Fit 5-speed thats been to hell and back and still going strong. I have been anything but gentle or nice to the car and I have put on over 100,000KM since I bought it in 2014, she is currently at 240,000km and aside a few small repairs and regular fluid changes she hasn't had any major work. All in all, these cars surprisingly put up with a LOT. I practically treat mine like a work truck, rocky graded back roads, dirt roads, back filled with a few hundred pounds of equipment for work. So as a simple reliable hatch back, they are great, just don't expect high power performance.

3rd gen Fit is ugly and it ain't got no alibi. Looks like they took the 2nd gen and made it have an anaphylactic reaction.
@acid312910 жыл бұрын
you should read the news some time it went into anaphylactic shock after its doctor changed its medication. It had a sever reaction and was in hospital for a few months recovering. After it was left disfigured and depressed it killed itself last night because it thought none would love it anymore so please stop with the ugly comments it may have a face like a drowning warthog but it still has feelings. As the saying goes don't judge an ugly deformed book by its cover. Thank you

I really enjoyed how colorful this review was. I agree with a lot of his criticism, but a lot was just silly. I have a 2007 Honda Fit manual Sport with 222K miles and it runs great. The automatics suck, of course, and I wont defend their sluggish performance, but the stick IS fun. I finally have to replace the clutch and a motor mount, but I still get 39 mpg on the Interstate going 80, and 33-35 mpg in the city (35 at night). The Interstate road noise on this car IS very noticeable, bring tunes on long trips to drown out the noise. Also remove the one inch front bottom trim to avoid hearing the scraping on dips and speed bumps. Fun review though, nice work!

I freakin' love my second gen Honda Fit. It's simple, fun, and functional. I wouldn't drive it cross country, but it is a great city car. Alleys, parallel parking, u-turns, moving crap, grabbing stuff, it's perfect. It's more like a street legal, weather ready, stuff hauling go-cart. And you will feel every bump and drive around manhole covers. Still great and will probably run forever.
