I have an '04 version of it (3.0L 240 HP) but even that goes like a bat out of hell when I heave on the accelerator. One thing though: it doesn't rev the same way as it would with a DOHC, it just doesn't. When I pre-rev the engine for switching back gears (usually into 2nd gear), then I have to do that half a second earlier in this Honda than when I did it with the DOHC four-banger in the Acura I test drove before I bought the Accord Coupe. That engine revved up authoritatively; this does it under duress, compared.

@@kiryukazuma2158 generally, a V6 of this nature making that amount of horsepower requires 93 (or 91) octane fuel to boost performance and keep down engine knock. For example, my 06 G35 6MT is capable of running 87, 89, or 91, but the engine was designed to make 296hp with 91 octane. Any less, and both fuel economy and performance drop noticeably in order to keep the engine running safely.

His piece about finding one of these on a used car lot reminded me of the best deal I ever got on a car. It was a new-old-stock 2007 Mazdaspeed 6 still on the new car lot well into 2008, which ONLY came with a manual transmission (which is awesome). The salesman started with the whole "this car is special" schpeel... obviously trying to prime me up to pay top dollar for it. My response was "yes, so special and so specific that in a year and a half, the right person still hasn't come along and bought it". I actually got him to admit that people didn't know what it was and weren't willing to pay a $10K higher sticker over a standard Mazda 6. Not only did I get $8K off the sticker because I knew they were desperate to dump it and he knew it, I also traded him my 2005 RX-8 and got $15K in trade value for something that would likely end up being a non-functional hunk of steel and plastic bits in only a short matter of time (it had 32,000 miles on it and was already on engine #2). As much as that was a driver's car, a head turner, and fun as hell to drive, I knew mechanically it was shit. I eventually sold the Speed 6 after many years of joy when it just started getting too expensive to keep up (we are talking like European level maintenance and repair costs, as it had 100% Japanese parts in it, unlike any other Mazda which shared alot of parts with Ford). But that's a story for another day. But Mr. Regular's rendition of how a salesman would treat this absolute gem of a vehicle that is the Accord V6 Coupe 6MT was spot on, because I lived it in a similar scenario. While this Accord and the Speed 6 are two entirely different vehicles, they share that common thread that most people don't know they are special. But those who know, KNOW. I actually enjoyed that "sleeper" quality in my Speed 6. And when I took it to an All Japan car show, all the rice boys with their suped-up Evos and STIs barely batted an eye. But the Mazda race team that was there...they knew, and they appreciated it. I also kept it bone stock. The kid who bought it off me said mine was the only bone stock example he could find in the Northeast...and I believe him.

22 mpg city/35 highway is a bit optimistic for this powertrain combo. Honda rated the 2016 models with the V6/Automatic transmission at 21/34. The manual transmission combo is most likely rated lower than that. They backed it all the way down to 18/28 for 2017 V6/6MT models. These get 30 mpg highway at best in most cases.

I have one of those V6/6 speed sedans, It's fantastic. You blend in to traffic. No one expects it to be anything special. It's smooth, comfortable, and quick. There's a good reason the J-series is still around. It's economical for what it is, the higher tier variants have explosive top end power, it's pretty simple and VERY reliable. And they sound great too (my almost 20 year old J32A2 sounds pretty much the same as the J35 in this video). If only Honda automatic transmissions were as good.
@SwapBlogRU5 жыл бұрын
@pochoun33137 I'm not sure about the newer engines, but the J32A2 definitely has variable timing just on the intake side. As for the Hondamatic tranny, it' a lovely box in its operation. But it's not reliable) mine just let go after 50000 kilometers. I do drive aggressively, yeah, but I did a partial fluid change every 10-15 thousand k's, used only DW-1 fluid, changed the filter, and it still broke. I even had an oil cooler installed, but that didn't help. I'll be using Motul Multi ATF in my next transmission, installing some new pressure switches, and avoiding 4-2 downshifts in automatic mode to keep the box intact for at least some time.

I was a little afraid when I saw this video and thought: "this guy's gonna crap all over my favorite attainable car". But then I remembered that, he actually likes good cars and only makes savage fun of the real garbage. This here is the last vestige of what Honda used to be as a car builder. I would buy this car with 200k miles on it as long as the seats weren't all torn up and it still had some paint left. They don't make them like this anymore and that is a sadder thought than seeing someone return a beautiful shelter dog to the shelter. Anyone with half a brain would jump at the chance to own a proper machine like this. There aren't enough hours in the day to heap praise on this car and others like it.
