Part of why I love seeing the rehousing is I'm learning each time I see you do it. I anticipate how spiders are going to react or could react and you mention it too and react accordingly. Anyhow, thank you again for putting up these videos. I have a H. pulchripes sling that right now FLYS around it's four inch cube! So these give me hopes that once it gets some size it won't be quite so flighty! I really thought when I saw this video title I thought we'd see some flying spiders based on how my little one can be. But no, these all acted tame in comparison to what I was expecting! I have two of these Primal cages on the way!
@TomsBigSpiders4 жыл бұрын
I'm so glad that you find these useful, Russell. I don't trim out any of the extra "boring" stuff because I think that people can learn from seeing the entire process. Thank YOU for taking the time to let me know. Yeah, the H. pulchripes here is, to date, the only spider to escape and get on me. haha They DO calm down once they settle in. haha And congrats on your Primal Cages! I have six more coming in next week. :)

Hi, Joanne! There's usually some nervous energy before I actually start, but usually once I get going it goes away. Digging them up can always be an adventure, so I can get a little antsy then. haha Usually if I'm worrying about one, I just do it to get it out of the way. In the past, I used to stress about some too much, and it wasn't constructive.

Hi, Simon! I always try to caution people that temperament can vary from specimen to specimen. I've had three calm ones, but I know of others who have had defensive ones. Yours sounds like a spitfire.

so I noticed you put both enclosures in a tub, and are the tissues for a reason too.
@TomsBigSpiders2 жыл бұрын
The larger tub is to create a boundary should the spider escape. The paper towels are for if the spider gets out. They will usually circle and the paper towels give them something to hide beneath so that they can be cupped. Hope that helps!

I have a T.Vagans which I need to rehouse but my first attempt at getting it out of it's burrow didn't go well as it kept going for the brush and straw, I've put a cup in the enclosure and it keeps going in but everytime I go to rehouse it it bolts out the cup and down into the burrow which is such a pain. Now I know how to handle the rehousing of a burrowed tarantula :D I was confused for a minute as it looked like there were 2 tarantula's in 1 enclosure near the end but they weren't lol.

Hey Tom idea for a pod cast episode-Is it important on what you feed your feeders before you give them to your T. I currently have this cricket feed that has a cancer label on the back is that chemical transfer into my T? Also if you just get crickets from petco its usually on feeding day should I rehydrate and feed them first? This is rarely talked about. Also will a better diet affect the color and size of my T.?
