I thought with communal species you're not supposed to have a super big enclosure? Otherwise they divide territory and consider each other enemies.

@Dogtroll2 жыл бұрын
The difference in size probably has to do with some kind of hierarchy between the tarantulas. Which probably means that if you want the smaller members of the communal to grow properly you would need to feed the more dominant members of the group more until they don't want to eat anymore for the smaller ones to have a chance. That's probably why most communals fail, people assume that if there are 5 tarantulas in an enclosure that it's fine to throw in 5 feeders in the enclosure and call it a day. But in reality there will always be a difference in the feeding responses between individuals and the ones with the strongest feeding response in the beginning will continue to have all the advantages throughout the life of the communal.

Id suspect the reason for the size difference would be them competing for food, where the bigger one has a larger apetite and is more of an agressive feeder than the smaller ones. This then results in it eating more of the feeders you put in the enclosure, leaving less for the others leading to more rapid moulting.

Hey, if you see this (or someone else with more knowledge than me sees this) I have a question! So I have 2 P Metallicas ATM. Both are right around 1 inch. They were raised separately from the person I bought from and I have been keeping them apart as well. I would love to try a communal setup like this, but I was afraid to try. If I were to buy 3 or 4 more, all around the same size, could it work out as a communal even though they aren't used to it? Since they are still so young? I'm not sure it's a risk I'm willing to take, but I'd like to know from people with actually experience. I've never done communal before and the thought of it both terrifies and intrigues me lol. I'm thinking I'll keep them apart though, but I'd like to know.
@TheBomberman1223 жыл бұрын
I can't speak from personal experience but based on everything I've read, I would say it's big risk since they've already became accustomed to being on their own. Wish I could offer more but thats all I've seen
