Got these as my dedicated gym running shoes as a beginner just breaking 5k. They're moderate stats and decent all-around everyday jogging/running shoes but you probably wouldn't want to do over 1/2 marathon in them. They're my first On shoe and I also expected them to be softer. The speed board is very firm.

Working at a hospital, I see so many nurses wear these.

Im a personal trainer and I like the ON’s as an all around shoe to wear all day. They make a great general training / gym shoe and are stable enough to lift weights, do some cardio and they are great for comfort and all day wear but I do not think they are a great running shoe. I’ll take my Hoka’s any day over the ON’s for running and trail running.

Watching your running style, it doesn't seem like your heel strikes at all, look to be more of a toe strike runner. So the clouds from the center to the rear not doing much for you makes sense. I just tried these at a sneaker shop and they felt great. Doing lunges in these feel awesome, will make for a great gym shoe.

pretty keen observation on his running mechanics. we all have different mechanics to the way we run, and you have to know what kind you are in order to seek the perfect shoe for you. just bought a pair of cloud 5's, can't wait to see how they are.

I agree with you. I bought a pair and felt that the individual springy sections were coming up into my feet. They just need to add a thicker foam padding in the shoe. I returned them, got my full $139 back, went to Walmart and found a basic shoe with very thick memory foam in the bottom for $14.99. Love them. Sorry On.

Breh. Here's the thing, if you care about your feet you will buy something that has REAL support and not just a bunch of foam. I know for me I have issues with my arch in my foot and those shoes from walmart [I had them] don't do the trick.

Yeah, I'm in the camp of "these hurt". Lately I've run in Hoka Cliftons, Brooks Ghosts, and Allbirds Tree Dashers. Decided to give these a shot and my heels and arches are not feeling it. I might try some new insoles to see if that helps. Who knows...

The cloud runner is more of a stability shoe. Of course it’s a firmer foam. If you look at the medial side of the shoe they have the “guide rail” similar to a brooks stability shoe.

I agree with you. I work in a shoe store. A lot of nurses do tend to buy cloud 5. I don’t like the look of it. On is a Switzerland brand. Established 12 years ago, their apparel’s been around for 8 years. I honestly can’t get into them. I rather Hoka over On. But Altra will always be my number one & it helps my plantar fasciitis. Everyone has their preference. Different feet, different shoes. Buy what you want.

I also work in a shoe store and every time someone asks for an altra I tell them how my brother wore them for a couple months and ended up tearing his calf because of it lol

Totally agree with you. On shoes are comfortable but there seems to be a lot of hype behind the brand and not very much substance for distance running. I really don't get the cloud tech. There are so many other brands with foam that doesn't have holes in them that are way softer and with much better bounce and energy return.

I’ve worn Brooks and Hoka to walk 4 miles a day…was thinking about ON but maybe not? Any recommendations for a 70 year old woman walker?

I loved these shoes and they were so comfortable and lightweight, loved the mesh and let my feet breathe on hot days. however they fell apart at 175 miles. I am not an aggressive runner and mostly do slow jogs and walks on sidewalks/streets. I've had my $50 new balances last longer so I'm looking for something else. thankfully I got mine at a great price tax free for $120, they are not worth $150 + tax at most retailers.

Watching you run, especially how you land, got me thinking that a gait analysis might help. Experts could check out your unique running style and suggest the perfect shoes to support it.

So I got my first pair a year ago and maybe Tempe first few months no issue but after that I didn’t realize why my heels and feet in general hurt at the end of the day. Even if I wore them for part of the day. I walk a lot of walking for work. I will never buy this brand again. For the price nope. The fabric also tore on the back.

I sell shoes for a living. 6 months is about on par for how long a shoe should last you.
