NO COPYRIGHT INFRINGEMENT INTENDED - ( ABC Paramount 10676) This obscure ballad is a nice example of soul and pop music mixing with jazz. Recorded in New York City at Bell Sound Studios in May 1965, the rich and smooth baritone voice of jazz crooner, Johnny Hartman, is presented on the Russ Damon composed tune, 'I Can't Help It'. An absolute seasoned professional, Hartman had been singing for about 20 years already by the time he stepped in front of the microphone to record this lovely and obscure track. Produced by Bob Thiele and arranged by Peter De Angelis, while the production is really quite nice, the contrasting sound of the verses which project the pain of heartbreak do not quite mesh well with the sound of the chorus which has a rather uplifting feel and sound. It's almost as if parts of two different songs were spliced together. Regardless, an excellent performance by Mr., Hartman and is highly recommended.
