Waves, Polyverse, UAD, Leapwing and many others don’t use iLok. Also Its not as expensive to get the iLok USB as previous years. Especially since the iLok cloud launched

@@ReidStefanMusic so ignoring the nightmare that is installing waves and interacting with waves central or dealing with the annual license payments, the ones that suck all suck for different reasons ranging from being snake oil to just having awful skeuomorphic UI or better alternatives offered from companies like UAD, fab filter, etc. So here they are: all of the “one knobs,” anything with “CLA” in front of it, any of the “riders” (vocal rider etc), ALL of their vst instruments, wavestune, NX virtual mix room, abbey road, the manny Marroquin stuff, the JJP stuff, the Maserati stuff, the Eddie Kramer stuff, the V-collection (v-eq, v-comp, etc), etc. I could go on but you get the picture, IMO none of the waves plugins are worth dealing with their awful customer service, waves central, annual license renewals etc. That’s why I’m surprised you said “you can’t go wrong” when buying waves plugins, you should know better especially given your audience is mostly beginners who will for sure get sucked in by the attractive sales on waves website only to find that many of their stuff is a ripoff even at 90% off. And even the plugins I think are good aren’t ultimately worth it given you have to deal with waves central, etc.

Or you could easily create a template in any daw that does the same thing as CLA vocals etc (especially easy in ableton), and I’m sure it would sound better too

And what's the difference between buying Auto-Tune from Antares' website and getting it from UAD?

UAD version requires DSP from your UAD hardware like Apollo or satellite. Antares version runs internally

I like the old UAD white autotune that they don’t sell anymore. At this point they’re both the same from a mixing standpoint. If you have lots of UAD DSP cores, get the UAD version🔥. If not, then definitely get Antares version ‼️

When it comes to latency free recording workflows nobody comes close to UAD. As For the plugins everybody has their own preferences of sound/style.

It's not a good lesson you're teaching. Plugins are like pianos, you can be a great pianist and play on a bad piano and you'll still be able to play cool stuff, but said bad piano will limit your skills a lot (source, I play piano since years and I clearly feel higher quality pianos are way more subtle compared to what I have at home). Also buying some plugins can give you access to things you can't/couldn't easily do before, for example if you wanna use a virtual talkbox on ableton, there isn't a talkbox stock plugin, so you have to buy one.

It’s the same as driving a car, that Volvo will take you as far as that Porsche. But when it comes to sound-design that’s a different topic.
