After literally decades of overseas flights, most with babies and small children on board. I have less problems with crying children, and more problems with drunk adults that want to crowd my seat, take off their shoes and not take a bath for at least a week before the flight. On a lighter note. I just rewatched an older YT video of "What can Rena Reach!"

Hi Reina! I just thought you would find this cute- I work in early childhood care and education in Ireland and here it is fairly universal across day cares and nurseries that children from ages 1-2 are referred to as "wobblers" rather than "toddlers" because though they might be walking they are not great at it yet so they're still "wobbly." When they turn 2 is when we call them toddlers.

I always feel empathy for parents struggling with little ones. I do put my headset on full blast to drown out whatever commotion is happening. As long as the little ones aren't throwing items or kicking seats, never a bother. Thanks for sharing your japan life with us!

Babies on flights have never bothered me, my issue is when kids are slightly older and the parents do nothing to control them. Once had a 3 hour flight with a kid kicking the back of my seat literally the whole flight. I was beyond pissed by the time we landed. Also I would really like to hear more about the daycare system, that's actually why I clicked on this vid. I've really enjoyed learning about life in Japan from your vlogs, it's fascinating how some things are so much better but some things are so awful like the rules for pregnant women and this bizarre daycare system. What are you supposed to do if your parents are not suitable caretakers? I would never leave a child alone with my mother.

In my Japanese culture classes in college I wrote a paper about the lack of childcare in Japan and how that affects women's careers and society development. I don't have access to it anymore, and this was about 10 years ago, and i know a lot of what I covered has been or has been attempted to be fixed. I don't remember reading about the grandparent rule, but my focus was mainly on Toyko.

The whole not qualifying for childcare because they think your mom should be doing it is like us never getting student grants because the parents make “too” much and should be fully paying for college.

@@Mwoods2272 working from home doesn't mean she's free to care for her kid during work hours. I'm pretty sure she still also does translations for anime and hosting for first we feast and then collaborations with other creators like the trash taste boys. That variable schedule also makes it harder to find childcare. A lot of daycare require set days and times to keep their slots consistent and expectations realistic.

Reina, when you just said your one year old daughter is a narcissist, i just cracked up so hard. i have dealt with crying babies before on a flight to and from GA. they don't really bother me, in fact sometimes i helped out parents trying to get them to stop crying by doing goofy faces or silly voices. works sometimes. you guys have a safe trip and a happy thanksgiving. i know this video is late past thanksgiving already. but, it still counts. love and hugs to you all and god bless, my dear old friends.

Hope the flights went well! I have never had a problem with young kids or babies on flights if the parent(s) are actually trying to calm them down and get them to behave. I think you have put way more effort into being considerate to others than maybe any parents ever on a flight. If you put in that much effort and anyone is upset with you, that’s on them, you’re doing more than enough. I just hate it when kids are misbehaving and the parents act like it’s not their problem and everyone else can just deal with it, but that applies for everywhere, not just planes 😂 I saw someone else say rude adults where their biggest issue on flights and I definitely second that. I’d much rather a loud kid than some rude dude.

I am sending you the power of mom thoughts that your baby may behave on the plane however if the altitude bothers her may the passengers be forgiving. With that being said the family portrait is beautiful. My son is three and going along with the situation helps so much with stress. Not to say it’s not there 😂 but I remind myself they are learning what it means to be human

That’s so weird about the daycare situation! I used to live in Japan and now live in Korea. We have free daycare here (in Seoul it’s probably harder to find a spot, but where I live, it’s really no issue, so we can choose wherever we like basically) and it’s great quality and there isn’t a time limit like yours has. Korea does it because of the low birth rate, so I am shocked that Japan doesn’t follow suit!

Capacity for public daycare centers depends on where you live in Japan. It's not a surprise that single mothers and working mothers are given priority in public daycare centers. If need be, she can always pay for private day care or hire a babysitter.

That busy board being in a zip pouch is so good. Crying babies on flights is...rough. It's not that they cry. Of course babies cry. It's the parents who don't even want to attempt to distract/soothe. The ones you never see walk the aisles or put on kids shows because Ipad bad. Idk man I wish long haul planes had just like 3 dedicated rows for families with sound blocking curtains and just a more family friendly space so kids aren't as stressed overall.

Your hair is beautiful!!! Wishing you and your family a blessed holiday season! I work as a flight attendant. I really don’t have a problem with crying babies. I approach them, make some funny noise, get their attention, and they stop. I engage the parent and the baby with conversation. When going through the cabin I stop by and check on them. If the baby is crying, I use their name, focus on the baby. I think it’s just distracting the baby is the key. Knowing someone else is paying attention to them. Looks like you’ve got a good plan. (Remember to bring some plastic bags to put dirty diapers in when tossing them in the lav. My only baby issue is poopy diapers!!!I )wish you safe travels.

Good luck on your flight and hope you had an awesome Thanksgiving! Honestly I feel bad for parents who are taking care of their children on the flight. Flying is already stressful without kids so I'm pretty sympathetic towards the family and am even down to help out if it's not weird. Adults can just put on headphones and listen to something if they're bothered by the noise.

I went on 5 ish trips of various length with my daughter between the age of 1 and 2, and it is absolutely chaotic but so worth it! You guys will be fine I’m sure :) you did the right thing with the night flight. She might wake up a bit here and there but I’m sure she will still sleep good chunks of it. And don’t worry about the noise - we’re all humans. Babies and kids are loud, they have feelings and needs and that’s normal! Most people who tend to be inconvenienced by loud noises usually bring headphones or ear plugs on flights so they likely will be able to manage themselves. My worst concern was my toddler kicking the seat in front of us 😅 we’re still working on that.

When my wife at the time girlfriend and her son were about to move in finding a daycare for him was like fighting dark souls 2 boss!!!! We ended up with really good Shinto daycare. It was a great choice. My advice is to try and get into a government school but also look for the best/ schools that fit with you. Don't be afraid to ask questions because based on the answers you'll find out real quick what school knows their shit and don't.

I invested in some very good sony noise cancelling headphones I'm anxious to try on a plane. They work fantastically at the grocery store where my anxiety spikes. I can't hear anyone except my music or podcast. I personally hate crying babies on planes, but that's because I get anxiety being in a tube of people. I never expect the parents to apologize though, I just handle my own environment. Use those noise cancelling headphones etc.

I'm already a mom, so I don't mind crying kids. Though when they do that cry that breaks the sound barrier (my son still does that sometimes) then I get annoyed. But it's understandable. They're tired, cranky, bored, their ears hurt, maybe their teeth/gums hurt. I would be crying too.

lmao explaining all the carry-on stuff was so funny and cute. great ideas! I hope the flight worked out, but if it didn't, you know you tried your best lol. when the kid is really young, i find it hard to be mad if they are crying. when they get a bit older and in control of their behavior, then it starts becoming a parenting or behavioral issue. honestly the best thing is a set of headphones while traveling. you can't control other people but you can try and provide yourself a more relaxing experience with something as simple as headphones. even a cheap set of earbuds really helps drown out a good chunk of unwanted noise. a pair of earbuds or cheap noise canceling headphones should be an essential when having to fly over a few hours. it's not the cheapest thing in the world but even at US airports, you can get a cheap pair of earbuds for $20 at one of the concession stores (which i recently got last week cause i misplaced my other in my check in before flying).

Babies/toddlers on flights are ususally no probelm, if they cry I can filter it out pretty easily. Bigger children are sometimes more if a problem, i particularly remember a flight from Europe to Shanghai with a elementary school child kicking my seat for what seemed like hours... That's more difficult to filter out and the parents didn't seem to care 🙈

Babies have every right to be in public places. I think a lot of people forget that babies are tiny humans with human needs and that when they are upset they cry. If it bothers you you need to get you some noise cancelling headphones and an eye mask and just chill. The baby physically can not chill. lol If you are the grown up you are the one who needs to deal with it. If you are sitting next to a crying baby offer to help the parents. It's hard on them too. You know.

But, babies are babies, it’s no one’s fault. I think if you are someone who is bothered by it then you should invest in noise canceling headphones. That's crazy about daycare. Kinda weird thought when you said it was the opposite in the US and then talked about public/private schools. Daycares and school are pretty things in the US. Sure daycares may teach some things but they are by no means a school. You are right though, public schools are mehhh, and private schools are supposedly giving a better education. IDK how true that is but it is the general view of the population.

That is interesting that private daycares are shady. Dont they have an option to be private but still registered (pass all the strict rules etc)? Here we have government and private ones. The government ones then to have long wait-list (like 18 months) so most people end up going to private daycare.
