After making several modifications, we'll get all the misc items, including the new standing rigging, installed back onto the mast. After that, and with only hours to spare before it left Luperon, the crane truck will get the mast lifted and back into Maritopia. After getting her back onto the mooring ball, we'll get all the new rigging cut to length and installed, along with the new turnbuckles.

It went super easy. Far better than I figured it would. But the wires no longer slap and keep me awake.

You knocked off a major, major job on your keel stepped mast. Your attention to detail pays off a lot for that particular task; don't wanna be taking it down again anytime soon. Nice job ! Be safe.....

Thank you so much! I absolutely LOVE that, for the first time since owning her, I don’t hear wires slapping inside of it. I’m on a 1300 mile passage right now, and the mast and rigging are working flawlessly. I generally do a ton of research before working on items that I’m not overly familiar with. I can’t tell you how many hours of reading I did on standing rigging before I got that far.

Good eye on those clivis pins. I only put one cotter pin in the top of the turn buckle and cut it to stick out 1/32" and bend only one leg 1/8". Think about it... less chance to cut and snag sails, skin, etc. Your welcome
@AmysSoloSailingAdventures
@AmysSoloSailingAdventures Ай бұрын
That’s great thinking! Those dang things sure like to snag anything that gets close. For the turnbuckles, I like using the rings instead of cotter pins. Since they’re down low and can very easily cut anything that touches them, the rings have worked out good.

I guess there are few choices to escape the heat of the summer on a sailing adventure such as yours. I can simply go to the mountains for a cool summer but you would have to travel way out of your way to do a similar thing. I guess you could do a BC to Mexico or Spain to Norway circuit but then not visit all the destinations you want. I would melt. Either way, I'm enjoying living vicariously through your journey, thanks.

Doing boat work on shore was brutal! All the large sheets of metal lying everywhere, reflecting even more heat. I absolutely miss the cool mountain mornings right now. 🤣 I’ll probably keep complaining about the summer weather here, but it’s still so worth to be living this lifestyle. I used to love waking up in the cool mountain temps, sitting outside drinking the morning coffee. Now you’ve got me reminiscing.

@@chapter4travels no doubt about it! My daughter still lives in CO. She’s getting married up near Granby next fall. So that will be the next time I’m in the mountains. What I’m looking for is the day that I get to sail into a mountainous region. Anchor the boat, take a tent up into the hills and camp for a few days.

Up here for thinking, down there for Dancing, well done my friend, I love the sun, but the humidity and heat just knock me stupid,🤣😛 just a tip from ur free mechanic, spray wd40 on all ur metal fittings and it will dry and leave a residue that will stop rust, but it's a big secret!!😲

Thank you! The wire ties could not have worked any better. I’m SOOO happy that the wires make absolutely ZERO noises now. I haven’t moved the winches. Did you make sure that your stays were the same length before you installed them onto your mast and then cut the exact same amount off of each side? If you didn't than you could have a leaning mast.

Yep, all of the lowers were cut to the exact same length, and both of the uppers were, too. But great point; I should have mentioned that.

@@Sailingsanctuary very nice! I just sailed through Norfolk and motored into ICW a few weeks ago. I saw the Eisenhower at dock there. It’s the ship I was aboard while in the Marines.
