welcome to my rejected-from-Sheridan arc hahahah
i decided to upload this because when I was applying I found it helpful to look at other people’s portfolios and assess what it was that I needed to apply to Sheridan’s animation program. Hope this helps~
I’ve also uploaded a separate video that details the portfolio I used to apply to other schools as well as some helpful advice to get into those institutions.

here’s some of the materials that I mentioned would be helpful in studying the different sections of the application portfolio
[Figure drawing/Hand Drawing]
Force: Dynamic Life Drawing for Animators by Micheal D. Mattesi
This book singlehandedly carried my figure drawing improvement, it talks a lot about exaggerating movement and how to construct different parts of the human body in motion.
Proko
Super cool and helpful guy, he has a whole playlist of life drawing which is extremely helpful for both beginner and experienced life drawing artists alike :)
Life of Action, SketchDaily, QuickPoses: All great websites to start learning figure drawing (of course it’s still preferred to study live models in person and not through a screen)
[Storyboard]
Any animated/live film out there (Study films and pause every few seconds to analyze how one scene transitions to another)
Toniko Pantoja (has great tips for all aspects of animation including storyboard and character design)
Study screen caps of movies and pay attention to the positioning of characters and angles used
[Character rotation]
BaM Animation: has this wonderful video that details the ins and outs behind character rotation + another good video on character design

Sidenote: don’t be afraid to ask for critique! There’s always room for improvement and the more you fix, the more you learn, and the more you grow so reach out to those discord servers and teachers and art friends
this was my first (and probably last) time applying to Sheridan but it was a great experience and I gained a lot of valuable insight into my skills, what I need to work on, and the industry’s standards
If you’re not confident about applying, I say go for it because you never know what might happen and you can learn a lot from both acceptance and rejection! good luck!
