If the clutch fluid is Brake Fluid (i.e not oil) then better tell everyone to clean any spillage immediately, by wiping off and then next wash it next with plenty of soapy water - otherwise it will attack paint and maybe other surfaces, and it will do this quick too!

👍 Yes, it's nasty stuff, although the DOT 5.1 doesn't seem so bad. I'll pin this.

John, that was an excellent well thought out easy-to-follow installation video. It could have been very complicated because there were so many steps. You made it so easy to follow. Great job, sir.

It certainly did, I am installing one on my 23 KTM XC-300 tomorrow. Seeing this was a relief that it would not be that difficult as long as I follow directions. Thanks again!

@@deanencore it’s really not. Just be careful to make sure all the parts are/aren’t in there that need to be. The trickiest part is probably adjusting the slave cylinder for the first time.

Thanks for that video John. I haven't bought the clutch yet, but of the searches I have done on KZbin, you pop up a lot. This was better than the Rekluse video - they need to spend a few more bucks on production! They did say in theirs however that the slave cylinder adjustment screw should go three notches after the initial 1 full turn, but that's probably arbitrary... oh and they didn't snap their elastic band haha! Thanks for taking the time to put this together.
@JohnHowerton137
@JohnHowerton137 4 жыл бұрын
Appreciate the kind words. Elastic band was the comic relief for my monotone monologue 🤣 I hate filming, but I know it helps people, so I do it. Giving back for all the random "How to change a Subaru headlight" and crap I've searched over the years 😋 Rekluse's directions are wrong sometimes. The last one of these I installed I took it apart twice to double check I didn't install something wrong because the clutch wouldn't work per their adjustment instructions. I did it by feel and it worked/works perfectly. One of my videos is the most viewed Rekluse video on the internet I believe.

Just changed my brake and clutch fluids and Rekluse bleeding nipple was all rusted under that rubber cover. Cleaned it all up and strangely all the old fluid had rust in it as well. It was all good 6 months ago when I bought the bike. Another thing what I have seen people do is to rinse off the spilled brake fluid with water or contact cleaner.
@JohnHowerton137
@JohnHowerton137 4 жыл бұрын
Yes, always good to clean off brake fluid. The older fluids were nasty stuff. I remember bleeding brakes back in the day... the rags you would wipe it off with, would rot right then and there. The 5.1 stuff shouldn't be a problem.

Hi, jst installed radius x to my 390 adv, do we nyd to strap the clutch lever for it to be able to stop without stalling
@JohnHowerton137
@JohnHowerton137 3 жыл бұрын
Strap is to adjust the “Freeplay gain.” A critical setting to make the clutch perform correctly and reduce wear.

Hello, I have a KTM 390 AVDENTURE and installed REKLUSE RADIUSX AUTO CLUTCH. After everything is installed... then When my clutch is released, the first gear will stall. It is very difficult to change the first gear to the second gear while moving, and the car will move forward when the left lever pulls the throttle. I don’t know what went wrong, I hope to get your help, Because I really want to ride a bike~~~~~ Thank you and good day

MaRco Yang if you're 100% sure everything is installed correctly, the next step is too play with the freeplay gain. I installed on of these where the starting point per the instructions was not accurate. After checking twice that I had everything installed correctly and wasn't missing a throwout washer or something, the system only required more tension than specified on the throwout to work properly. I've only installed these on hydraulic clutch bikes, so I don't have any adjustment tips for you on a cable system.

Old video but there is no reason to remove your center hub or basket when installing the Radius X... That's one of the great things about the Radius X, you simply install the clutch disks and EXP in general and you're done in the clutch area. EDIT: Excellent video all around though...
@JohnHowerton137

Good catch. I went in looking around at other stuff if I remember correctly. One of the owners of the bike had put in lots of aftermarket parts in, so I wanted to pull out the basket I think to check on/identify everything. Some bikes do have the rubber dampened basket though.

I have the same system on my KTM 250... But it works like just on/off mode... so there is no "grey zone" in the middle where you can play with a clutch. Is this normal? Or I can adjust something to increase working diapason?

I think they claim it is, but I’d say 10% stiffer. It’s still not bad. My left hand is terrible and it feels fine to me. WAY better than a Japanese cable clutch.

How long did this take you from the time you started till you were done with all of the install and had done the break in and rechecked the free play? I am assuming a couple of hours as you work through it and read the manual.
@JohnHowerton137
@JohnHowerton137 4 жыл бұрын
Well it took maybe 3, but half of that was screwing with the camera while wrenching in a parking lot. Decent workshop, not looking for tools and taking your time, 2 hours is probably reasonable for most mechanically inclined people. It's pretty straight forward. Basically the same as any clutch but you have to bleed the slave. Simple, but takes a minute to do. Break in doesn't take long either. Maybe 1/2 hour if you have to make adjustments. You just takeoff in first and second gear bunch of times, then check freeplay gain.

@@JohnHowerton137 I got it installed. No real issues. Went out for a ride with my buddies and on the technical Rocky River beds and tight first and second gear trails it works awesome. I did a short steep hill climb and loop the bike off the top of the hill. I broke my subframe. I attribute that to not feathering my clutch and relying on the recluse clutch. My fault for being lazy on the clutch. I'm going to try the same hill climbing again and see what happens. But otherwise I really like it.
