Easiest way to fix it would be. 1. Make the contraption taller 2. Put guides so the guillotine flows down smoothly 3. Add alot of weight to the guillotine

In addition to these fixes and some ruber to the impact zone of the base board and the beam that hilds the blade. This will slow the impact speed of the 2 pieces of wood so you wont need to fix it after only a few uses. Tbh a few pink erasers would probably do the trick.

The science behind the guillotine is the angle of the blade. The angle allows the blade's fixed vertical linear movement to become diagonal slicing movement (than just chopping straight through it). This is a far more efficient use of force and speed. By the way Woods, you did an excellent job in building the guillotine. 👍 I hope you guys see this.

Maybe take a piece of 1-2" square dowling or wood and cut it diagonally and attach it to the wood at the top of the blade to make a wedge so it won't make items get stuck. Oh and maybe a sharper blade for tougher items? I would love to see this prop stick around for a while.

I think maybe adding a string to both sides of it, could maybe stablize it? Cause the problem that I notice was it wasn't stable. Like it'd shift one way and then get stuck because it was unstable. I'm not entirely sure how it's be fixed, but I think more strings(possible thicker ones, too) could work.

We actually built a guillotine for a drama production I was in a couple years ago. We ended up needing to put pieces of wood on either side of the blade to prevent it from going all the way down. We also found that the heavier the blade the less likely it was to slip out of the tracks we’d made for it.
