The episode goes through my experience with Kratom, and how it affected my sobriety, and my overall experience with life. It covers a the grey area substances abuse that I have not seen many people talk about. Please leave me a comment down below if you or someone you know has struggled with Kratom and Relapse. Would love to hear your thoughts on the topic.

I have been taking 20g of Kratom per day for a year, and have been a user for about 5 years. I just started a tapering program with the help of my partner. I went from 20g to 5g and it has been so rough. I thought of adjusting it in order to work and be more present. I did not necessarily have a problem with Kratom, but to me it feels now I have to take it just to feel normal. I would have to bring a 3oz bag anytime I traveled and take it in the morning and at night. The dependency and pain from withdrawal is very real. Wishing everyone out there the best with their recovery.

why did you switch from present to past tense, you said now you have to take it to feel normal, then i "would" have to take it, but don't you have to take it still now?.. you'd say i have to take it u don't need a would if you say now

I need help also. I will begin my taper soon. I'm at 40g per day and I'm sick of it all. I'm a guy that had no idea what the pitfalls could be. I was listening to a Joe Rogan interview and they discussed it and it sounded great. I heard many other interviews with natural remedies discussed and it came up again, so I tried it, and 3 years later I'm in need of stopping. It sucks, but it must be done. I hope you are well.

im felt so alone with this.. but now i found this video and what u and the people in the comment discribe is exactly what im experiencing too. i hurt myself lifting heavy 3 years ago.. my back got really injured and i had so much pain. i used Kratom before for over 4 years without addiction. Just for one like once a week. It was never a problem. But thru the pain i had to take it to get along... its now 3 years of taking it and since last year i try to become clean.. i did like 6-8 trys to become sober but the cold turkey is to brutal.. both physical and mentally. i feel like i missed out so much in that time while being constantly alone.. i also lost my job last year (i invested so much energy in that job...) financially its not looking great + all the world drama right now. but i finally started working out again and gaining my muscles back. it really helps a lot feeling my body, muscle soreness and getting really hungry + making good food. since working out i stepped back from taking so much of it and the dosages getting smaller. im at 15-20 gram a day now and im trying to lower the dosage 1 gram every week. i have to get clean to take care of my family and friends and for myself. the kratom addiction got me into a serious spiral of negative thoughts. but its getting better. especially after i saw how many people struggle with exact the same symptoms. and with the training i have sense again and plans to make this my real profession which is important.. we need sense in life. thanks for speaking openly! helps me a lot! i will talk with my mom about this.. my family does not know about this. and my friends are not supportive when it comes to this.

100% You just get so attached to how you want to feel and reaching a certain state, that it completely detaches you from the ongoing life around you. It feel very dark and gloomy being in it. you only have certain amount of focus every day, and so if you are addicted then your focus is very restricted, because you put 80% focus on "I want to take a dose" or "im not feeling it enough, i want to take more". But yeah like you said, I used to be proud that I can spend lot of time alone without feeling bad and I loved my alone time, I could have fun alone. Now 2.5 years into kratom I hate who I am, and in withdrawals I just cant stand being with myself, I drive myself crazy with negative chatter and keep myself awake at night.

I had 2 years clean when I stumbled upon kratom while buying cigarettes from a smoke shop. I was curious, so I tried it. I was amazed that it felt similar to prescription opioids and was pretty much hooked right away. In the beginning, it felt great. Eventually though, it didn't work as well and I was irritable constantly, dosing every 5 hours.

I'm an older guy. I have degenerative spine disease. I also have nephropathy in my feet and legs. My right leg is almost paralyzed and my left leg is weak. Standing and walking have both become difficult and very painful. I've been to see a whole host of doctors, none of them think there is much they can do for me. I've seen two back surgeons, both refuse to operate saying they can't do anything to help me. Nerve testing was not conclusive on whether my problems are because of my back or my nephropathy. So recently I started taking Kratom to help with the pain. 1.5 grams in the morning, 1.5 grams in the evening. It does help. All I'm looking for is pain relief. At my age, I know I don't have a lot of years left. I'm looking at living out the rest of my years with a manageable amount of pain. So honestly, I don't care if I develop an addiction.

Giving this my 100th try seems like -.- Unfortunately I am 100% already addicted to the kratom. 4 am every night taking swigs because I wake up already fully sweating/restless legs/completely impossible to fall back asleep until I drink some. Such a slippery slope man but I will perfect this one day.

Have you tried just taking a dose every 8 hours? If I do that, I never wake up in the middle of my sleep. If I dose too often, I will wake up needing to dose just to get back to sleep. Can relate to all the kratom addiction comments. If the goal is to ween down and get off, try using crushed leaf instead of powder. Make a tea out of it and spend a couple weeks transitioning completely off the powder to the tea. Crushed leaf has stem and vein in it and has different alkaloids that help with WD. Then once you're used to the tea, go for 100% stem and vein tea. This will help mitigate the physical aspects. Therapy and meetings for the mental support and long term sobriety. 🙏

@@cr-nd8qh … I used Kratom to get off Suboxone (the 2nd time.) first time I quit Suboxone years ago, I didn’t even know Kratom existed. It was torture getting off. Years later, I was back on Suboxone and was scared shit of having to go through the withdrawals. Thankfully I discovered Kratom and quitting Suboxone was seamless. Of course, I was then addicted to Kratom but getting off Kratom was hard but definitely easier than quitting Suboxone. So if you wanna quit Suboxone, I think it’s worth the risk of getting addicted to Kratom. But you will need a plan to quit Kratom in maybe 2-4 months, not years. Quitting Kratom on your own without thinking about rehab is very doable. You’re not alone, we are all (or were ) addicts. Now I smoke a little weed here and there and that’s it. Cheers

He's been clean for 13 years but has been having an issue with alcohol the last year or so. I can't remember exactly how long ago, but he started uaing kratom. He drinks it every day and it has been very concerning to me. He's never lost his temper before in the 6 years we have been together, but since he's been using kratom, it's happened twice. He punched a hole in our bathroom door over the weekend, and it's just not like him. I don't know why exactly he's using it. I thought maybe to help stop drinking? He says it just relaxes him. He's not like you. He didn't continue to go to therapy or stay accountable through any groups. I've asked him to go to therapy for years because he has a very low threshold for stress. Kratom is a (mild) opioid. He is basically relapsing. The effects are very similar to most opioids/opiates like morphine and heroine. Even though it's a lot weaker. That's why Kratom is used by many addicts since its pretty much the only legal alternative available. It can be a good substitute if used correctly. For me personally it is very difficult to stay at the same dose every single day...

Kratom is great (much safer than pills) for those who have chronic pain issues and for people trying to get off harder substances. Of course there’s a good chance of getting addicted to Kratom but Quitting Kratom is very doable without thoughts of rehab. Especially compared to quitting opiates, Suboxone, etc. Kratom is also affordable compared to opiates unless you have a prescription which most probably don’t these days. So I’m pro Kratom under certain circumstances but I think it’s a big mistake for sober people to start using Kratom . It is addicting, the withdrawals are real, and it’s just not worth it unless Kratom can genuinely help you quit harder drugs.

I've had a real struggle with Kratom. It all started for me when I had surgery and was prescribed a bottle of 30 percs and 30 oxys, I only took like 5 total for actual pain during recovery, then I found the bottles like a month later and started taking them recreationally, I found they gave me this just peaceful warm euphoria and I of course LOVED that feeling, it completely melted my anxiety/depression, well when I ran out I didn't have any plugs or any connections for more, I ended up finding out about kratom and how it felt really similar so I tried it, and it did feel very similar to me. I didn't have an opiate tolerance really at the time so kratom hit hard, it felt really similar to how the percs made me feel so I got really addicted to it. I've gotten off a few times and back on again, currently I'm actively addicted to it and taking a pretty large amount. It doesn't give me that euphoria anymore, I'm just taking it to not be sick. I am glad though that I found kratom and have no connections for actual opiates, cause if I did, I probably wouldn't be here tbh.

Thanks for this message. I have been sober for 20 years, alcoholic... I started taking Kratom 3 years ago to help with lower back pain and anxiety. After some time, I would wake up at night in cold sweats as my body started craving it as too long between doses. I have tapered to about 4 capsules per day down from about 20 at my peak. I hope to be fully off it in the next 30 days. One thing I must say is that Kratom has helped me deal with difficult times in my life. It has also given me more patience with my wife and children. It has also relieved the anxiety from work. All in all, it seemed to be a good thing. I do notice when I pray, I don't feel anything though. I think it is dulled my emotions too much. Many people tell me if it provides peace to me, it can't be all bad. I know better though... Wondering if I am still sober...

Thanks for acknowledging the responsible use of kratom for chronic pain. I've been using less than 10 gpd for over 4 years without any issues. It's a blessing for me even though I know there are some people out there who should stay away from it. I worry about addicts giving kratom a bad name and causing it to be made illegal. Many chronic pain patients have already lost the use of prescription opioids because of the misguided war on drugs. It's better we spend the money to get addicts well than making substances that people abuse illegal and spend all this money on ineffective law enforcement and incarceration. Thank you for a balanced conversation. I wish you well in your recovery.

As a former LEO who couldn't stay in the profession due to having a moral compass and a conscience, I wholeheartedly agree with your comment. The system is not to protect people from addiction, it's to punish people for self medicating and costing the pharm industry money. I felt like the main purpose of LE was to generate revenue and protect the pharmaceutical companies and their profits. If the job was to protect people from themselves, we would have been arresting people who were obese, tobacco users, alcoholics. Alcohol and tobacco, along with food addiction makes the medical industrial complex money and is legal. Anything that helps people not need a doctor or a prescription is illegal because our economy is dependent upon people being unhealthy and reliant on pharma. They have the biggest lobby and that's how the system works. Very sad really.

Definitely interesting. I’ve been in recovery for 17 years, used Kratom for several years from crippling pain and zapped energy due to half a decade, battling Lyme disease undiagnosed. I don’t consider it a drug in the way that things that I used to use were, cocaine, alcohol, speed, etc. Very low risk of doing such stupid things, although you can definitely overdose with the extract! It’s very interesting reading such a broad-spectrum of peoples experiences.

Yeah man, the opiates work great until they stop working entirely. Kratom addiction and withdrawals are almost identical to opiates. When the opiates/Kratom stop working, then you’re taking it to avoid withdrawing so you don’t feel like ass. That’s when it’s time to quit. Oh man, it’s so hard. Not the physical withdrawals, that to me seemed easier. It’s the PAWS, after a couple weeks when the physical part is gone and then it’s just mental: you feel down, unmotivated, helpless, quiet, depressed, want to avoid being around people, gf thinks you’re not into her anymore. The PAwS can last for several months. Suboxone withdrawal was the hardest thing I’ve ever dealt with.. cold turkey from 8mg per day was months of pure misery.

It’s a difficult question “am I seeking mental relief?” when gauging whether you should or shouldn’t with Kratom. Take Anti-depressants for example. They also provide mental relief, hard to get off of, withdrawals are awful, etc. but for some they are a life saver. And Some substances do all that but can ruin your life (alcohol, benzo’s, opiates). It’s a complex thing. The harm reduction strategy vs. the stone cold clean strategy. I’m not saying what’s right either way. Just acknowledging that it’s hard to decide the right answer - and maybe the right answer is there no right answer. Appreciate the video and your candidness.

I feel ya man. I’m 2 months cold turkey off kratom. I am currently on a low dose of ambien (5mg) and trazodone(50mg). The lack of sleep is why I always relapsed. Those two meds are saving my life (no sleep is the worst thing in the world) and I’m seeing the light of finally breaking the chains of Kratom. Few more months of this healthy sleep habit and I’ll be back on track. Did kratom for 7 years…

If kratom doesn't mean sober somewhat then I'll never freaking get there :( methadone detox broke my brain from basically a month of lost sleep. Like a full freaking month not sleeping. I was afraid I'd die after a while. I've been using kratom to regain some of that lost sleep. Baby steps I guess

Sober is the opposite of intoxicated. Kratom isn't intoxicating. Please don't let people make you doubt yourself. Kratom is much better for you than benzos or ssri medications, both which have withdrawal symptoms, benzos withdrawal being potentially fatal. I had a family member come out of treatment for heroin and opiates. I begged him to let me bring him kratom the day he left sober living. The "experts" told him that using kratom is still considered dependence on substances. They say this while puffing on a cigarette, lol. Needless to say, the family member died from a heroin overdose days after leaving the facility. Those idiots prevented him from feeling free to use kratom and it resulted in his death. Kratom would have satisfied his craving for heroin and he would still be here.

You should really never being using it more than youre willing not to use it. Ive had a lot of success in the past with only using it on my weekends, 3 days a week or so, although even then I'd still recommend taking at least two 30 day break/year so you can take a step back and clear your body/mind. I think of both those small and large break periods as control rods, neutron absorbers I use to harness the benefits of kratom for my own purposes i.e. treating boredom, depression, lethargy, ect while simultaneously preventing things from getting out of hand and resulting in an undesirable runaway effect..

For me the answer is yes, when I use Kratom as if it are Adderral for ADD. It is actually much better than Adderral and it works well at a low dose, no higher than 11 grams. I must take breaks from substance. It’s not an everyday drug but maybe an every other day drug or every two days or as needed. I stopped and recently started experimenting again and it has not worked the same. It has way more negative side effects and has distracted me from my program and connection with other people in recovery. I hope I can stop tho bc it has been getting more often and more often. Although I never do it two days in a row it is still scaring me. Today was the first rough day without it but it was nothing compared to daily use. This is literally exactly what I’m going through and it sucks bc I am supposed to come up on my year free from fentanyl meth and alcohol. I am a former heroin addict. I was also on Suboxone for over 5 years. I take Kratom every day, and the only things that bother me about it is the price (which really isn’t much but still, something I purchase that I could save money on if I didn’t) and the withdrawal symptoms I experience when I take sabbaticals from it. I also experience night sweats and I wake up feeling like the first think i need to do is dose. Aside from those things, Kratom hasn’t taken anything away from me. I gained a lot back actually once I quit Suboxone (which was HELL, btw). I’m in the best shape of my life and I’m very active and I have my hobbies back. My family respects me. My love life has returned and I’m dating a really wonderful woman (no sexual dysfunction from the Kratom btw lol, which was a concern but I guess I take a low enough dose for that not to be a problem). I don’t know. Part of me feels like I should do a taper and get off the stuff. I’ve quit Kratom many times with success in the past. But somehow I always found myself needing to get back on something, be it Kratom or pills or H. I think at this point, Kratom is the lesser of evils and it hasn’t taken anything from me, only given. So far, anyway.

There’s absolutely nothing wrong with taking kratom. especially if you have a depression problem. tons of people have depression issues and what they do is use drugs. Kratom is a freaking tea. And you know what the strange thing is? The only people who experience withdrawal symptoms like that is the people who have a prior history of withdrawal from opioids and/or opiates. So maybe…maybe-kratom isn’t the problem here. maybe it’s that your brain is still feeling the addiction to opioids or opiates. People think that withdrawal from that Stuff is only a week or two maybe a month. PAWS can last for years. “Years”… just because you weren’t feeling it doesn’t mean that it wasn’t still happening the entire time you were taking kratom. If you stop percs and go on suboxone you are still going through withdrawal. you just don’t feel it, but it’s still happening. People are dumb this way and they wanna blame something that isn’t the cause in the first place. (Not trying to point the finger at you just saying people in general, and maybe you may have made this mistake as well?)

Please don’t think I’m being disrespectful, I’m not meaning to. Your choice of title concerned me when I saw it. I’ll explain why. Im 49. Chronic pain patient and recovering addict, as well as my husband. We have used Kratom, pure Kratom, not extract, for about 8 years. I am 1000% a Kratom advocate for many reasons. It has kept me off of opioids from day one! And ha kept my husband from even harder drugs since day one . I’ve met 1000s of people it has done the same for. I, in no way have ever considered myself a Kratom addict! Kratom is absolutely safer than any pharmaceutical ever made. Yes it can become addictive, but so can nose sprays and and food. Portraying it as an evil bad thing is not fairy to the plant nor fair to the people it has saved. Extracts, which are most common with abuse, is not Kratom. It’s adulterated. And I feel that it should be banned! But Kratom, absolutely NOT!!! There are people that have a gene that causes them to get addicted to everything. But that’s not everyone. Kratom can give euphoria, relaxation. But not a high! I’ve never been high. Euphoria and high are 2 different things. I would encourage anyone seeking the absolute truth about Kratom to watch healing2gether. He’s a die hard advocate but also gives the 💯 facts on every side . When utilized correctly, especially for pain management, Kratom is a gift from God.
