@@quantum_nekomancer Thanks for confirming that much. In Czech, it's because "ondatra" is default female, as a word, so the translator opted to keep the species and switch the gender. (A common solution in the genre, so to speak: the translators of the Narnia books or Winnie the Pooh did the same thing, in their case with owls.) I always enjoyed Ondatra a lot, too. In the books. :-)
