Thanks Andres. The naturals sounds were amazing. Every time I turned my head or moved slightly, the creek sounded different. It was amazing to "feel" the sounds come from different directions. Superimposed on the creek sounds were the cheeps from squirrels, chatter from birds and chirping of crickets and frogs .... which continually changed depending on time of day, wind and temperatures Most locations were I hike and camp are not as interesting and relaxing as Krause Springs. ATB, Ken

Hi Ken, A lovely peaceful video and a great ending. Go careful near the rocks and water, a slip and a fall in that situation could be bad news. Even a young person like for example Me! haha would find those rocks a little tricky. Maybe when creek camping it is good to go in the company of others. Take care and Peace. Sandy
@KennethKramm10 жыл бұрын
Hi Sandy. Rest assured, I was not alone. Krause Springs is a privately owned camping area. There were 200+ other people nearby when I camped last weekend. The large house of the property owner was right above the waterfall I sat under. It was difficult to keep their sounds out of the videos. They were right next to me! Everyone soaking in stye restful tranquility of the 32 springs that are only on the property. They generally don't start roaming around until 9am, so early mornings are peaceful This is an awesome place with butterfly gardens, waterfalls, small lakes and large cypress tress. A few years ago I slept inside one of the hollow trees. The hollow tree was 10 feet across on the inside. At least 6 of my YTubes have been filmed at Krause Springs. No mosquitoes here because water is always flowing. Many photographers come here. Someday, I would like to fly a quad-copter from house and butterfly gardens above the waterfall and lake... down to the fantastic area and along the creeks. Peace, Ken

KennethKramm Big smile! I was raised by mountain goats. We hiked rocky trails every weekend and climbed boulders in the deserts of California. Awesome memories. When I was 6 years old I started climbing sign boards..and would walk home from school taking the short cuts by walking the tops of fences. Bob Knight thinks I'm a mountain goat too! In our last camping trip Bob saw me half way up a cliff and asked, "How did you get there?"
@WiltshireMan10 жыл бұрын
KennethKramm Sounds great fun Ken you would put many folk half your age to shame.. Quad copters are becoming affordable now and quite reliable. The video taken from them can be extremely stable when the camera is mounted on a gimbal. I love my copter it is a really useful tool for videography. However they have to be used with care as some folk do not like them. They can be intrusive and also scare wild life so you have to use them with caution. The UK is easy at the moment with regards to regulations but I can see things tightening up in the future. I hope I will always have the copter now. Infact I am thinking of building a Hexacopter as the two extra motors ensures the craft will remain airbourne should a prop or motor become damaged. Sandy
@KennethKramm10 жыл бұрын
Wiltshire Man I know that some folks don't like them: especially my wife and my daughter. My daughter said the quad-copters ruined her scenic vacation .... When I get mine, I will need to be careful where and how I use it. I don't want areal videography to be a detraction for others who want to enjoy the scenic beauty of nature.

Hi Ken . The cave would have been nice to camping but that location you picked for your campsite was freaking awesome. I am really impressed with that canvas tarp. It has so many uses. I will have to try making those ash cakes.. They did look really good. Never had the Alpine products before. I don't think they sell them anywhere in my region . I bet I can find them on Amazon. I'll have to look. Was that water really cold ? I noticed you get around a lot better on the rocks barefoot then you do with shoes on. I think your part mountain goat . :-) that waterfall was freaking awesome. Was there a cave behind it? I really enjoyed the video ken I wish I could have came along with you. I don't think I would have been able to do those yoga move you did. I don't have enough coordination lol. I'll talk to you later ken. .... Peace. PS I figured out how to do two thumbs up :-)
@KennethKramm10 жыл бұрын
Thanks Bob. I was totally impressed with the tarp. And the sleeping bag jacket will save weight, when we go camping this spring! You know, indigestion is never a problem after eating ash cakes! The water wasn't cold...just cool, same temp year round. Yes, I can climb the rocks much better without shoes on (as long as I don't step into any cactus! Maybe I'm part cave-man, as one subscriber suggested. My wife tells me that I should have been born thousands of years ago (I take this as a compliment). You can't imagine what happens under that waterfall! (I will tell you in private what I have seen folks doing.... and it's really gets interesting at night = to see young couples, go over to the falls in moonlight AND then come the fireflies. There a small cave behind this small waterfall AND there is a large cave behind the big waterfall that flows into a small lake. I like to swim behind the big waterfall into the cave (which is about 10 feet deep and some folks swim underwater to yet another cave (but I'm afraid that I'd get stuck under water). You would LOVE this place! But beware, snakes are sometime in the caves, including the water snakes in the cave behind the waterfalls! Probably rats too. Two thumbs up! cool. Your'e a pro, Bob!

Hi Ken. Great modifications to your tarp /hammock and also your sleeping bag -it's given me thought for new projects. The 'plate' fire was a nice touch brother. Changing the subject Ken, I commented a while ago on your water distillation kit regarding the extra cap (secondary bottle top section). I know Bob had issues with the seal -ever thought about putting some stainless wire wool in the neck of the bottle to stop carry-over rather than another bottle top? Removes the carry-over and the leakage issues? Should increase the efficiency a little and maximise your resources. ATB Huw.
@KennethKramm10 жыл бұрын
Huw Sands That's a good idea to test with stainless steel wire wool. Bob used a larger bottle than I tested and that may be part of the issues. I had not leakage issue with my smaller bottle 750ml versus the 1.5 L bottle he used. Thanks for commenting and suggesting additional approaches to test. ATB, Ken

Dave Pruitt do a google search for The Hidden Woodsmen (malcolm) and your will find his Facebook page. He makes custom tarp/fabric items. Telll he what what size, type of fabric you want and how you plan to use it. It will cut it to your requested dimensions, sew the seams and attachments. Let him know if you want to use it also as a hammock, and the sewing will be made extra strong.

Shared it. Hey man, one trick I may have to experiment with a little is the camera following the feet. That is if you don't mind. I think that is an excellent way to deliver the most important part of the hike to your audience. Where the feet go. Melody and I stared at this video. Always comical during meals. Whether that is intended, only you know. But your food scenes are very entertaining.

Excellent! I think my heartbeat slowed considerably just watching. The minimalist style that still focuses on comfort and good food just adds to the relaxation. The tarp hammock is a great design; the sleeping bag wearability alteration is great. I like being able to hike it up for walking around and sitting, and it certainly would make having to get up in the middle of a cold night a lot less painful! A second layer sewn onto the tarp could work well for lower temps. It could be a real light material to avoid adding much weight to the hammock. Then you could make a sandwich of any insulating material or insulating pad. I tried a mylar lined poly weave tarp under a fleece blanket and my backside stayed cozy in the 40's.

Kenneth! Fantastic video! I am sad to see that you do not to 18th century videos anymore. your bedroll haversack videos were great. I like historical camping. I am very interested in your hammock setup. did you just thread cordage through the grommets to suspend it? I was looking for a tarp setup, but am unsure on where/how to start. a video on how you made your tarp would be grand! thanks again for the great videos! :) - Al

alzathoth More historical 1800s videos will appear again. Stay tuned ... For now I'm taking a break from the research (and acting) they they require. I purchased this custom made tarp (as I don't have a sewing mating) from The Hidden Woodsmen. Check out his Facebook page, concerning how to order one.

Hi Ken, I live in Dallas but love camping all over this great state. I am curious where your journey took you this time as I would very much like to go there myself. I love simple hammock and tent camping but I don't think I have been anywhere that peaceful in some time. Do you have a list of places you like to go? Or a particularource for scouting out these wonderful adventures? Thanks for sharing. I love watching your videos and using them as points of reference for my own adventures.

Kyle C Hi Kyle. There are some beautiful places to camp in Texas. I guess my favorites are on the 200 or so YTs on my channel. Some of the places, like Krause Springs (this trip) are very small and privately owned. It is too small for hiking, but is more suited to relaxing. The best time is during the week, because there are fewer folks. If you know of places that you like, let me know. I'm always looking for new places.... ATB, Ken

Thanks. The stainless steel canteen is an vodka bottle (full bottle costs $22; about the size of same empty stainless steel canteen) and cup was purchased from Gander Mountain. The two fit together, by accident.

Another good video. You always mention the camera you use. Was it the vixia G10 or something else. Also I must complement you for being so flexible at your age. You are truly an inspiration to the young and old alike. Thru these videos you make and post, it teaches the young ones how to enjoy the simple things in life. Keep more coming.
