Agree...I can so relate. I've been natural now for 14 yrs. It's at the length wear it's tiring (mid back). I don't look forward to wash and detangling days. I've started to wear blow outs but that lasts two days if I'm lucky...roots curl right back up as soon as I sweat. With being a full-time Mom I no longer have the energy or motivation to deal.

Yesss, You have to what best for you and not follow Trends. Everyone is different and I hate when I see people pass judgment/ have to comment on somebody else and what they decide to do with their body and hair. This trend will pass LOL also when people talk about the chemical aspect holistic practitioner I always tell them you worry about the perm there was in your hair but you not that conscientious about what you're putting in your body and on your skin. If you going to be natural all the way around be consistent. I know a lot of people who are relaxed / texturized and their hair is healthy. People don't realize no matter whether it's natural or relaxed if you don't take care of it won't be healthy.

It’s crazy how we go natural and “protect” our hair by wearing wigs and weave, and in some cases we end up damaging our hair more in the process. Yes! Let black women be free to CHOOSE what's best for themselves. Black women need to stop bashing other black women and respect our choices. We don't all have the same history experiences or lifestyle so what works for you may not work for someone else. Trolls: Stop forcing your beliefs onto your sisters. That's just another form of mental oppression. I've been natural for 14 hrs. And Natural hair is not low maintenance for my thick long tresses. It's a hassle. It's time consuming. It hurts. I just want to say to the ladies with children , don’t be afraid or feel bad to ask for help with managing your kids. Whether it’s from a supportive friend, family member, spouse, or if you’re in a position to hire a trusted child care professional (nanny). But seek the help/ support you need to enable you to properly care for yourself. I can tell she wasn’t 100% into relaxing her hair (she even said so herself) and the fact she STRONGLY advised her “mini me” not to do it, confirms that. It was just the best thing to do due to lack of support sounds like. Beautiful hair either way just make sure to get support because you deserve to be in tune with other aspects of yourself not just your role as a “mom” that way your children truly learn by seeing you taking the time to take care of YOU ❤️

My sisters, I love you all, but I must dearly ask: what products were you all using? I fear the monetization of the natural hair community has resulted in the false perception that natural hair care must be expensive and time consuming! Bottled Olive oil/ coconut oil/ shea butter from your local grocery store, have priced merely ranging from $2-$10 and should last you for months. & While it is ideal to support black owned businesses (& I still do when financially feasible!), I have used cheap 'white girl shampoos" with nutritious hair benefits (aloe, sulfrate free, etc) and have been just fine! The aloe vera brand I use costs at most $3! I wear my 4c hair in two-strand twists and leave it be! Detangle once a week! I am concerned that many of us have been mis-informed by the corporate sphere of natural hair media! It should not be expensive and time consuming! We do not need to do wash & gos and twists outs every day! Low manipulation is possible! What did our ancestors do before colonization? They did not need $20 shampoos and special brushes! We do not either my sisters! :( I support Black women embracing self-agency and doing what brings them peace and happiness, but I cannot help but remember the internalized-antiblackness I felt as a young black girl, feeling that natural hair (especially natural 4c hair) is genetically unfavorable. The way we speak about natural hair concerns me, as if it was an unfortunate genetic mutation that has cursed the Black diaspora "difficult" and "unrealistic". I felt so hopeful that natural hair had finally become normalized, that little black girls could look to their moms and aunts and peers and no longer feel discomfort about their hair, to feel what little White and non-black girls feel: that their natural bodies are normal, valid, and welcomed. I know no-one in this comment section wishes to encourage harmful messages, but to little black girls hair is "not just hair". As a little black girl, when looked to the straight hair wig on my mother's head, and the straight weaves and perms on the black woman around me, and on the tv, and then looked back to my "nappy" head, i knew that hair was not "just hair". l always support women finding peace, but I will also express fear for our children. I was finally hoping that naturally kinky hair would be normalized in our society, present everywhere, welcomed, beautified, and accepted. We have regressed. Regardless, you look beautiful with your relaxed hair Mrs. Ciera, your feelings are valid.

BUT all I need is the “trend” not to shift too much and all my favorite products go away 🤣🤣 because I always intend to be natural.Y’all do Y’all tho!! I’m here for healthy hair relaxed or natural. I’m happy you are happier now! For me going natural wasn’t a trend. My hair just didn’t work relaxed it was harder for me to mange the two textures between relaxers. I JUST texlaxed my hair a few days ago and BABAAAAAYYYYYYYY let me tell you!!! It is the best thing I have ever done. My hair is not really tight it has like three different curl patterns maybe 3c, 4C and something else lol but I texturized it and that was a MISTAKE after a few years being natural with the big chop. My hair is almost mid bra strap length. But the texturizer had my hair shedding non stop, dry, and I could not color it at all lighter, it would not lift to the color I wanted so I went ahead and texlaxed not caring at all at this point. I used mizani diluted with Coconut an jojoba oil and my hair is sooo BEAUTIFUL and MANAGEABLE now, I loved my textured before but after this I am more in love with it. It stays straight if I do it myself and also I can do cute pulled back tight ponytails flawlessly.

Well, I knew the some of the naturals would go back to relaxers as their life focus and priorities changed. The detangling struggle is very real and even daily styling is time consuming if you want to look good. And lets face it, some naturals have a much easier time handling their hair than others. From what i can tell, relaxing /texlaxing products, application and hair maintenance has improved immensely and former naturals now have a full and long head of hair to start over with. At the end of the day, its a personal choice and that Ladies, is that...

Sis, your hair looks great! 😊 No need to explain why you made your decision! I too, decided to go back to relaxers (or texlax) right after the New Year, after 5 years of being natural! You said the SAME THING I (AND PROBABLY OTHERS) have said: the detangling was becoming too time consuming and there was a not enough time in the day to detangle AND style my hair! Also, there were certain hairstyles (roller sets) that I couldn’t wear with my natural hair, because the frizz was out of control. The only way to tame was to use MORE HEAT from either a hot comb or flat irons. I love texlaxing my hair & will only do it 2 (maybe 3 times a year)! The relaxer I used was Creme of Nature’s Straight from Eden kit. It’s a plant based relaxer & it wasn’t harsh on my hair at all!

Damn girl you kept it sooo damn REAL YO!!! I'm crying watching you do this to your BEAUTIFUL natural hair. However, I TOTALLY understand. I'm literally intimidated by my natural hair, especially when its wet. I'm also afraid to wash it on a regular bc of it being SOOO much to deal with (detangling) And for days...I GET YOU GIRLFRIEND. I've been natural since before it was a "trend." I wore it faded out, dreads, t.w.a., you name it. With all that said, you did what was best for YOU and your lifestyle. Your hair is STILL GORGEOUS!!😍 I'm praying for you. MUUUCH RESPECT!!

✨SadCat✨ sweetie we didn’t come out the womb with a perm and unlike how the media portrays us a lot of us stayed natural or did other things than perming our hair even if it meant hot combing it being natural cannot be trendy and a lot of white and Asian people will market things to us a certain way so we can buy their products people turned being natural which anybody can be even if their not black into a way to profit off of black people the amount of natural hair products we have today isn’t necessary we have companies that don’t know an iota about black hair telling us how to take care of it colours styles and other things can be trends but being who you are has nothing to do with trend setting
