You did nothing wrong, application wise. The reason why your hair ended up straighter than you intended is because your hair was already color processed, which made it high porosity i.e. quick reacting. This explains why your root (which is in its most natural state) came out still curly and thicker than your colored shaft. Either way, the end result was lovely. #forget the haters. #Loads of love from me to you.

You have beautiful hair 🙂 But as a black woman who is born and raised in Europe, I'm still quite amazed why black women in America who are natural and decide to go back to a relaxer, *always* need to defend themselves 🤔 Here in Europe, having natural hair is also a trend (I am natural for 20 years btw), but no one will ever frown upon someone who will put a relaxer in her hair. We also view relaxed hair as natural hair. It is your *own* hair. I would love to see black people to unite, even when it comes to natural hair. God bless! 😊😊🖐🏾

When my hair was relaxed it was thick, long, bouncy , shiney and healthy. However overtime this does take a toll on your hair and it began to break and look stringy. Now that I am natural ,it may take more work but my hair is healthy and it is long and is full. I will NEVER relax my hair again. A lot of people like to take the easy way out and then once they relax their hair I'm sure some regret it like you probably are because your hair doesn't look healthy at all. But even if it did overtime it is going to break down. As well, relaxing came about to emulate the European. Now, many today might not relax their hair to do that but that's how it came about. If you notice a lot of people relax their hair because it's easier to deal with and it will help them no longer hate their hair. We shouldn't hate what God has given us we should rather embrace it and learn how to work with it. Now, even if I became a slave to my hair and it became too much for me and if I had to cut my hair I would still be natural. I would never go back to relaxed. Ever.

@@feefee8627 yeah I didn't want to do the whole chemical thing I use to work in alternative medicine & in different fields in the hospital & seen the end game/health effects but I wanted to wear my natural hair str8 from the beginning of the journey, more than curly, I kept it stretched &combed out, it grew faster. I like long hair & wanted to show my length so I got my CHI thermal kit, Vaseline & blue magic grease nickel size amount on each section dime size amount of oil & good flat iron & hair has grown faster & no heat damage.

The results were great but I urge all relaxed girls to please do more research before slapping any relaxer in your head. No-Lye boxed relaxers are the worst types of relaxers to have because of the inferior ingredients used to formulate the product (which caused your uneven results and underprocessing) and the calcium hydroxide used causes the hair to become drier over time due to mineral build up. Design Essentials has an entire line of salon level lye-base relaxers formulated for sensitive scalps which would give you way better results.

I'll need to do more research on lye vs no lye. The information I found online before relaxing didn't state any major differences that made me go low-lye. I was considering the design essentials relaxer as well but opted to do ors again. I think my hair was drier because I bleached it though. Thank you for your information and insights everyone should always do their own research and not just go off off KZbin results.

@@charsdiy1879 Yes, there is a difference between Lye vs No lye. However, the different has nothing to do with inferior ingredients. Lye relaxers have sodium hydroxide, which is fast acting and has a high PH of 14. However, high-PH chemicals are not ideal for people with sensitive scalps. Hence, for this reason and this reason only, do companies make No-Lye relaxers. The most common No-lye active ingredient is Calcium hydroxide along with Guanidine carbonate (aka liquid activator) which reacts when mixed to form Guanidine Hydroxide. In fact, the aforementioned chemical combination is what is found in Design essentials' sensitive scalp relaxer and in Affirm's sensitive scalp creme relaxer. The only difference is that they choose to list their ingredient as Guanidine Hydroxide. All this said, to combat the dryness associated with No-lye relaxers use a chelating demineralizing shampoo like Quantum clarifying shampoo or Mizani phormula-7 neutralizing and chelating shampoo. Warm Regards, B.

I think if you’re gonna relax your hair you should have a professional do it. At least the first time to give you a good foundation and then you can touch up the roots
