Back in the 70’s as a kid I used to live in one of the little Victorian homes down the street from the Big Momma house. My dad worked a short walk away at the Orange Public Library and I went to school at that big church with the broken clock (St John’s Lutheran) - a short walk too. It was like living in Mayberry.

I had a great friend who was born in Orange. In all the times I have been to LA, I hadn't visited Orange until 2017. My friend, Sgt. Justin Hoffman, was a Marine who unfortunately lost his life in Iraq on August 3rd, 2005. The last time I was in LA, I drove to Orange to walk around and take in the area in memory of Justin. I was very impressed with the town and will visit again sometime. Thanks for the stroll. This put a smile on my face. :)

@@MrPAULONEAL This is correct. I visit his grave a few times a year. I live about a half hour from the memorial park where he is buried. His funeral, held on August 13th, 2005, changed my life forever. I travel a military tribute around the country which his portrait is part of. The first tattoo I got was in his memory. I miss him greatly and anytime I see anything online that reminds me of him, I have to watch it.

I too was born and raised near 'The Circle' in 1964. I always knew it had historical significance but perhaps I took it for granted. I see a lot of these houses daily. I'm learning to appreciate it more. I recently moved back to town after being away for over 30 years. I wasn't certain if I would like being back because its changed so much. I realized quickly that I do miss being home. I'm learning to pay more attention to the little things in town. I'm very sorry for your loss.

My Great Grandmother lived in that area. My cousin and I would stroll up and down the circle, going through the shops. I was 13 - 27, she finally had to move at the age of 93. She lived on her own in an Old Style Apartment building, walking to the store, cooking, cleaning and taking care of herself until she fell and broke her hip. Thank you for the memories

I used to live on Lemon street just a few blocks away. As a kid, I would walk down to Satellite market to buy candy. My first bike was from the Schwinn bike shop across from the market. I got my first Converse shoes at Army Navy. Bought my PE clothes at the Orange Sporting Goods store at the Circle. Got a skateboard from the skateboard store there too. Good times. I also remember going to all of the antique shops. It was like going back in time.

I just loved the whole neighborhood, ate at Watsons, visited the art museum a few times, but could no longer visit because of COVID and she died in July. Some day I want to come back. This area seems so “California” to me, wish I could move here, I love the climate. This is the next best thing, thank you.

A relaxing video indeed! I love historic towns, buildings and houses. I enjoyed seeing those bungalow style houses in the first neighborhood you went to on the corner of Center and Maple. I happened to look up a couple of them on Zillow to see what the estimated asking price would be if they were on the market and wow - expensive! The cute little pale yellow house right on the corner would potentially go for a little over $800,000! It's only a 4 bed /2 bath and a little over 1500 square feet.

My girlfriends parents live in a home from the early 1800s in MO similar style to the orange homes! They retired and have decided to move. Out of all the kids we were the only ones to express any interest in the beds and antiques so they suggested we have them or find good homes for the pieces. I would love to have a project like hugh to display the pieces but we haven't settled yet. So we are selling everything for them. We talked about making a bed and breakfast out of the old home but decided against it being that everyone lives in an old farm home around here haha The property is to small with no features to draw anyone in anyway! Im glad we are finding fantastic projects to re-home these pieces to though! So far a bed and breakfast in colorado, A Japanese inspired Tea room in Wyoming, and teds garage!
