Here's is something very important I want you to know. Our culture (modernized culture, mostly Western culture) trains us to be disconnected from our bodies. Our culture trains us to view our bodies as external objects as an outside observer. Our culture trains to look to outside experts to fix us, fix our body issues but doesn't train us to connect with our own body, own sensory experience, "listen" to our body, feel our body, and learn from our inner intelligence. This is cultural influence on our beliefs influences our behaviors. Many people believe that they need more information in order to overcome their limitations and challenges. Many believe that they just haven't found the "right" information yet so keep seeking outside for their answer. Reality is that we have too much information, and we are so disconnected from our own body and experience. It's easy to view my videos as another exercise video, and approach it from that mindset, that is to approach your body like fixing mechanical parts that lie external to you. Then, you are really missing the point. This is not a conventional way of thinking in Western culture, so it's easy to let my message pass through you. But, don't worry! I am persistent and will repeat over and over and over:) I'm not here to teach you exercises to correct your body structures. I am here to help you connect with YOUR BODY, YOUR SENSORY EXPERIENCE, learn from YOUR BODY, and create a new way of movng, using yourself, being in your body! This paradigm shift is necessary for transformation, changes in your nervous system, movement patterns, quality of life because your body and mind are one! I really encourage you to keep this message in your mind as you watch my videos and practice movement!

Thank you so much for your comment! For movement practice to be effective, movement/exercise does not have to be complicated. In fact, most of time movement/exercise can be quite simple. More importantly we need to learn how to pay attention to our own body and movement patterns. Attention and mindfulness are more important to improve our functions.

I have cptsd from a 14 year long abusive relationship. I'm out and safe (3 years now) but when I lay down, my neck, head, face & jaw muscles start clenching to the point they are on FIRE. Yesterday ,I did other exercises, from your posture video. I also watched your sleeping position video and last night I noticed, I was doing the rounded posture in my sleep too. I corrected my sleep position last night. Today I noticed that when I am sitting or standing my posture looks better, even my son said to me, “mum you are sitting straight today.” I hope I will be able to correct the small hump on my neck. This video was spot on too. I was exercising during the whole video and tension has definitely decreased. I think all these problems start from a common cause. Your insight is unique, Thank you.

Yes! For a long time I’ve had very tight hips and shoulders/neck, and felt it was related but physiotherapists only ever give me stretching exercises for each, separately. But it’s because of long days sat the computer, where the pelvis/hips are rotated backwards, which as you naturally then rounds the shoulders, causing chronic holding tension. Now I’m much more aware of that full pattern. Life-changing, thank you.

Oh great, I have it as well in the neck and shoulders and in the L4L5 area and a herniated disc too, I had to stop Boxing because my back got to bad and then I made it worse in Hot Yoga, I have yet to find a balance in this chronic pain. My hip and SI joint pop out as well but I can fix that by getting into the front seat of my 2000 Jeep Cherokee Sport and pushing back with my right hip while seated and everything POPS in place, I guess I will have my Jeep for the rest of my life ;)

I'm a classical musician, and this is incredible useful information!! I have done a lot of different stretches and similar, some good, but they're not always useful because they work well if you have some momentarily really painful tight areas, but when you're not really feeling much tension, but still need to go a little bit further to become really soft, stretches doesn't do it anymore. My goal is to not feel the need for much stretching, and this seems way more optimal. Really looking forward to seeing more of your videos

You're welcome! Just for clarification, the purpose of this exercise is to help people become aware of their habitual posture and movement patterns that are associated with more strain and effort in the area and to retrain their movement patterns in order to reduce streain and effort during day to day activities. It's really about developing more body awareness and movement control. The movement pattern that increases strain, discomfort in neck and shoulder during this exercise is very likely what you habitually do during daily activities so you want to recognize such pattern and retrain out of that pattern.

That would keep people from developing unnecessary illnesses and injuries and spending less money on medications, and would keep doctors from prescribing unnecessary medications, so would reduce overall medical costs over years. More money should be invested in movement and early intervention and education.

This was useful, so thank you. I like the idea of unwiring habitual movement patterns in the shoulders the way you started with. But what you said about how it's not really possible to let the shoulders drop unless the supporting structures are aligned correctly, this was an even more powerful concept, because I have noticed this in the past, but don't always connect poor lower alignment with latent shoulder tension. It was the reminder I've needed, along with your other shoulder tension video, as I've been working on range of movement and flexibility, and often react to deep tensions and pains with self massage and stretching, which as you point out, is endless and doesn't move you forward. In fact it definitely makes it worse, as you are effectively pulling against yourself, and if poortly aligned, making the situation worse for areas that are already sore from being over burdened or inflamed. Thanks once again, new fan here, and not surprised you are building some nice numbers, congrats

Have had headaches, neck pain and limited rotation of my head due to extreme tightness for many years. In more recent times have pain in the right shoulder. Did not do anything to injure the shoulder and now realise from your video instructions it is likely the constant use of the computer and the tension as a result. Will give your lessons a try aand hopeful of some relief. Thank you for your help.

absolutely explains the tension and pain i have from playing guitar. maybe its a way out of my chronic pain. thanks man ! would love to see it precised for problems of musicians. but until then i try to transcribe it to my personal pain and tension.

My neck is so tight especially on the left, that even when I do my right shoulder, where I feel the most tension is on the left side of my neck (and some tension along my windpipe). So it seems like I tense all of my neck muscles at once. At the point where I should feel relaxation of the neck muscle, I feel a strong pull on that tight muscle as it seems to resist relaxation. But I do feel some relief and will keep at it. This has been a problem for years, and I so appreciate your help.

Thanks Taro. Finally had a chance to try it. Will be more tolerant of traffic jams thanks to you. I work on the pelvic movements you showed a while ago while driving. Now there’s more, and God Knows there’s painful tension building up on shoulders and neck while driving, and the feeling of exhaustion following when really all the body did was sit and drive! Oh well, thanks again. m

Glad to hear it! Yes, small movement can make a big difference! It's not about how far, how fast you move (quantity). It's more about how you move (quality). Changing how you move requires the brain's attention, thus slow and small movement are very helpful for changing movement patterns.
