This video is an ah ha moment for me. Literally just yesterday I was in a new chiropractor appt for extreme tension in my neck and shoulders that I've been experiencing for 8-10 years !!!. My x-rays showed I now have arthritis in 3 of my lower neck vertebrae. I'm 61 years old and no one has ever pointed out what you just did in a few minutes. I sit very badly as you showed. It was incredible to do these awareness exercises and see how much of a difference my neck and shoulders felt in sitting my 'normal ' way. Then to feel how light my arms were when I sat correctly. Education is the first step to improvement. Thank you so much for your time in producing these videos. You are saving people from years of incredible pain and discomfort. Now on to watch more of your videos to learn how to heal myself.

Thank you for your comment! I think we often attempt to compartmentalize our bodies and treat our body like a machine. In reality everything is connected. All parts of our bodies. Body and mind. It makes more sense to understand our body and mind as a whole self.

This is extremely helpful, not only for the important reasons you highlight but also the correct posture creates space for the internal organs. I am focusing on improving my liver, spleen and pancreas health to improve digestion, helping to detox etc and I had been noticing by habitual slouch really made my internal cavity feel squashed, so your postural improvement technique has to be a huge help in this regard too! Thank you Taro :)

I found this extremely helpful, I am an office worker sitting for 7 hours a day with short breaks which I have been doing for the last 20 years, at the start of 2021 I took chronic sciatica back and neck and shoulders pain, I've had a lot of daily exercise and occasional massage and muscular and skeletal therapy but I've always been left with tense shoulders and neck, I've just watched the first 2 videos and felt instant relief in my neck and shoulders from such simple movements, I'm amazed at how effective this had been for me.

I am so glad I discovered your channel. You have helped me become aware of my pelvic tilt and as a result I have begun to feel uncomfortable in my old "natural" ways and am beginning to sit up straighter effortlessly more often. (In the past, when I have tried to sit up straight it was very exaggerated and strenuous and unnatural.) Yes, sitting properly moves the shoulders backward but I still have a problem that my shoulders while basically aligned with sit-bones still they (the shoulders) are somewhat rolled forward. Any idea as to why this would be?

Thank you! I actually had seen that video but since I knew I had big problem with pelvic tilt that is what I concentrated all my awareness on, and I forgot about the other 2 exercises on that video which deal with the upper back. I will work on that now along with the pelvic tilting which has become much, much better. I am confident this will help. I know I repeat myself, but I can't say enough times how wonderful your method is and how grateful I (who cannot possible afford trainer to work with me) am that you provide these videos. I have been aware of my pelvic tilt issue for long time but any other method was never sustainable for me because it involved extreme movements that were too uncomfortable to sustain long term.

Your KZbin channel really helps me more than any other source I have to say, even the doctors! So I have two questions if you don’t mind answering because I am really struggling with chronic pain for a long time and if you could answer me, it would be awesome. How do I keep my hips in this position while I’m walking and sleeping? And are there some strength training exercises you suggest or keeping my hips strong? Thank you and God bless!
@TaroIwamoto
@TaroIwamoto 8 ай бұрын
Thank you! Retraining movement patterns and nervous system isn't about correcting your body and movements. It is more about creating more options, bringing more awareness into your body, being able to make an optimal choice/option in any given moment based on what activities you're doing, and what you feel in your body. It's not about keeping your hips in this position while walking and sleeping. It's about sensing your body, quality of movement, breathing when you move your habitual way vs new way, noticing a difference between two in terms of quality of movement, breathing, comfort in your body. by practicing that, you'll become more and more aware of your body, and start to know what is good movement for your body and start to make a choice towards what feels right for your body.

My favorite hobby is knitting, and I know posture is important, but I cant seem to find the right one. Some say I need support behind the arms, some say I need support under the elbows. Thank you for responding. After seeing both neurologist and neurosurgeon and reviewing years of nerve conduction tests and MRI, this diagnosis of ulnar entrapment came about on KZbin Rehab. The nerve conduction tests did show significant carpal tunnel damage and MRI revealed herniated disk in C7 from repeated slip/ falls down faulty staircase and landing on elbow some 20 yrs back. I was cramped into a claw on same side as herniation and learned to do carpal tunnel release excercises from youtube rehab. 20+ years later, my hand is visibly smaller than the other, unable to clasp most items, loss of strength etc.

Thanks for the great video and information! Would the same principle apply to standing? I hurt my back/shoulder/neck at work when I was driving machines that you have to stand on rather than sit. I'm a bit taller than normal, so I definitely had some excessive slouch. Would fixing the hips in a standing position be very similar to your tips here?
@TaroIwamoto
@TaroIwamoto 2 жыл бұрын
More factors influence in standing such as weight distribution on your feet, but hips/pelvis positioning definitely influences the spine and head. A key is to understand relationships between head-spine-pelvis-legs as they all influence each other. You move one part, and you change everything else. After all, everything is connected!
