Over the years I have found breathing into my lower back does control the pain. Also relaxing and breathing deeply helps. Thanks for the info

Thanks I Have Noticed That Since It Hurts to Breath When it Locks Up, that Even If it Isnt Locked Up Im Still Holding My Breath in Anticipation of it Locking Up 🤦‍♀️ Will Work On Breathing More Mindfully.

Interesting to compare and contrast this with the way we're taught to breathe when squatting heavy weights, where maintaining the internal bracing is the desired result! Of course the differences (mostly timing?) make sense in the different contexts. And the similarities (abdominal breathing?) highlight common principles of effective breathing. Will bear this in mind when moving, thanks!

Breathing definitely has helped me to relax! I’m doing sports PT which has been great. I just started seeing chiropractor but I’m skeptical…would love your opinion on chiro in general.🙏🏻

I have a different experience. I have strong L5/S1 sciatica in the right thigh and ankle. If I take a very deep breath the pain in the thigh and ankle vanishes for a few seconds. As I breath out it returns. I use this technique to walk the dog.

I hold my breath while weight training pushing the weight. Are you saying even that is a bad idea??

MY back starts aching badly when I try to stand up straight or walk. As I am walking, I start bending forward more and more - I HATE this! I have always worked hard at maintaining a straight back... I have had two fusions, one in my late thirties and the last one in my late 50's - second one they removed all old hardware and replaced these with titanium rods. I had no issues with my back again, until I relocated twice in the last 6 years - LOTS of bending and packing/unpacking! How do I help myself straighten up without it costing this old pensioner a fortune? (I am 73 now)

Ive found through weight training how important breathing is to stabilise the core so I can easily see the logic behind this.
