Sergey really had to push for another win during the classical time control games, the chance was there a couple of times. Beating Magnus in the rapid playoff is quite unlikely for most players. Fabiano should learn from this to give himself the best chance.

Wow amazing words considering fabiano didnt learn from this and got crushed in the rapid tie breaks as well.

So this is why Magnus plays so much bullet chess. In long games it's almost guaranteed to be a draw and in the tie breakers one must have nerves of steel.

I agree Karjakin was close but Carlsen wasn't even 70% of his best in the classical portion .

fantastically cut together.. if you do it again it would be good to patch out the scores from the chess 24 boards before you (re)reveal the result.. to add tension for us forgetfuls

This was an amazing championship. The broadcast with Peter Svidler and Jan Gustafsson was both exciting and funny. When Karjakin won game 8, I thought WTF!? but was almost certain that Carlsen would win one of the remaining classical games - and he did. Then the tie-break! I had some good wine and chips and sat on the edge of my chair. In the end, I felt a bit sorry for Karjakin, but Carlsen proved once again he was the King. And now (2024) chess24 is soon gone, unfortunately, it has by far been the best site to watch tournaments.

10:33 How often is it that someone makes a move never seen before in a chess game?

It always happens eventually, its just that at the highest level they usually have the first 10-20 moves studied ahead of time
