I am reloading 30-06! This time with Sierra 165 GamgeKings and Winchester Staball 6.5 powder! Let's see how they shoot!

Morning John. Awesome rifle!! Classic caliber. Yea I remember they got better and was solid rifles again by mid 70's. My 358NM is a 1978 pusher started as a 7mag JES rebored to Norma Mag. I wanna try staBall more myself. Grabbed a few # myself.

Hi John. I've had great luck with the Winchester and Federal cases. I've found that for the most part they are about the same in capacity. I have a Remington model 700 Long range 30-06 with the 26 inch Heavy Varmint Barrel. My Winchester model 70 in the 270 Win Caliber has the 24 inch barrel.

Hey John, nice to see your video on the aught 6. Do you ever hunt with that gun anymore? I’m sure it has lots of sentiment value to you since your dad gave it to you. It sure is a beauty. I was at the range this weekend shooting my father’s Savage 99 .308. It was 60 degrees out and the range was packed. Hoping to draw a New Hampshire moose tag this year. Stay healthy my friend.

Hi Frank! No I don't hunt with it anymore, just a range gun now. Savage 99s are great, my brother has an old one in 300 Savage. I actually drew a muzzle loader moose tag for next Fall. Any moose (bull, cow or even calf) and a really long season. Glad you are out shooting, wish you luck on drawing a moose permit! Take care and stay safe!

Hey awesome video! I use 180 Nosler Partition, IMR4350 with federal primers and cases for my Alaskan Bull moose hunts. It's very sufficient when I'm patiently waiting for the perfect headshot!

Sierra #2140 .308 165 grn. HPBT is my favorite Whitetail bullet in 30/06, .308.

I have a lot of powder in the Staball Match burn range like IMR4166 and W748, so it might be a while. Staball 6.5 is a useful powder and can be used for reloading many different cartridges, not just the 6.5. Appreciate you watching!

Hello John, what manual did you find loads for that powder? none of the manuals I have even list it. Ironically enough I ran your loads through quick load and it consistently puts out velocities in the 140 to 160 feet per second slower than your results. Enjoyed the video take care Sir

The load data came from the 2022 Hodgdon Annual Reloading magazine, as shown in the video. It is also online at Hodgdon's website, under Resources, go to Reloading Data Center and scroll to 30-06, select bullet weight. Hey, thanks for watching!

I am going to load for my browning 30-06. Going to use a 166 hammer bullet with staball 6.5. Was wondering if you have tried any lighter bullets with that powder in the 30-06? I have some 140 hammer bullets and some 125 hammer bullets and I am thinking of loading in the 30-06 also. Thank you!

No, 165s are the lightest I have tried. In looking at the Hodgdon reloading guide, they show loads using 150 gr for the 30-06 and StaBall, so that will probably work for the 140s you have. They do not show any loads with a lighter bullet. Hey, thanks for the question and watching!

I am reloading as a beginner and have 115 gr Ranier FMJ and have unique powder but can’t find loading data , can you help?

That sounds like you are trying to load 9mm, Lyman manual has load data. I hope this helps.

I do not, but in the Lyman reloading guide, they say IMR 3031 or H335 is good for lighter bullets. I hope this helps and thanks for watching!

I have used StaBall 6.5 powder for 30-06 and 7mm-08, have not noticed any undue issues with it. Since it is a newer powder, load data is harder to fine. I use Hodgdon load data, and started low and worked up. Hey, thanks for watching!
