I’ve actually had the pleasure of seeing your convoy as I was heading south coming from upstate New York heading back to Jersey… Seen your trucks on the road many times an I’ve always wanted to get into heavy hauling. I drive a Tri-Axel flatbed an haul marble, granite and quartz, 9x’s out of 10 I’m fully loaded at 80k which is on the low end of the heavy haul business. But this here, this is my calling. Just wish there was a way to get my foot in the door so I could learn and get some experience. I alway hear companies saying they want experienced drivers but in today’s world. No one is willing to train anymore like they did in the golden yrs of trucking.

There are lots of good heavy haul companies out of New York and New Jersey. STX, Silk Road, Pedowitz, Super & Sons, Bay Crane, Izzi, De Mase… I guarantee you somebody is hiring. But you gotta be ready to start back at the bottom and work your way up. They will give you a chance with small loads and as you prove yourself the loads will get bigger. Good luck ✌️

Your collection of different trailers and the number of them you have is amazing. Leaving Newark with an oversized load always seems really difficult, sort of amazing the city of Newark would work toward coming up with a more straight forward method of getting oversized loads out of the port - but I guess they aren't the ones that have to drive the trucks so they don't really care. Always amazing the teamwork. Thank you. Enjoyed the long entire video.

I really enjoyed how you managed the situation turning right onto park. Asking both pilot cars to head to the rear to stop traffic from rolling up on you. The one pilot car disagreed and gave his opinion. Almost appeared to me that you may have been slightly irritated with his response. Lovely to see you take a few seconds to compose yourself before responding with a clear, thought out response. No need for yelling, no need for arguing. Seems like your call is the final call. The disagreement was cleared up and decisions were made. Great patience by everyone involved!

Good day. Having the steerable axles at the back of the that trailer must have been a god send. Looking at the wagons in the yard I never knew how diverse Bellemare's trailer fleet is. But you have to drive faster in the yard. I was getting bored. LOL BTW, one of my friends at Keen posted a pic of 1 of 3 all electric trucks at Carlisle being prepped to be sent to Savannah to work. Appear to be Cabover Volvo's. Savannah is already building charging ports for them. They are working under a federal grant system whereas for each diesel engine destroyed $X.XX will be granted. Work hard, drive fast, speed safely. 😆 Have a good day
@luckybananaheavyhaul3407 Жыл бұрын
A non steerable trailer at 137 feet is just crazy!!! For sure the technology is steadily improving but it will be a long time before we see electric trucks on long distance transport. They just don’t have the endurance. I can see a lot more local delivery fleets using electric in the near future.
@andrewharvey6400 Жыл бұрын
Firstly, a very professional team and job well done. Now could someone answer some questions for me please? I am now 70 years old and long retired from this type of work, and also looking at it from a European perspective. Why such a multi axle set up for a comparably light and short load? I assume axle weight limits (bridges?) In the UK these carriages are transported on a 3/4 axle prime mover and a 4/5 axle semi trailer (steerable). second question, Do they not experience any traction difficulty's with the lack of ballast on the prime mover? Thanks for reading, and good journeys!
@luckybananaheavyhaul3407 Жыл бұрын
Unfortunately North American weight regulations are overly complicated. I don’t make the rules! And the real problem is that the regulations change from state to state and from province to province. On long distance it is complicated to have a configuration that is accepted everywhere. Gross weight of this move was 175,000 lbs which requires 9 axles. Also we need to use lowboy trailers instead of platform trailers because of our low bridges. A platform would be lighter and make the overall length shorter but we could never find a route with the height. And yes having a jeep (dolly) under the front reduces traction but it’s just a fact of life for us because we need 5 axles under the front and 5 axle trucks are extremely rare in North America.

@luckybananaheavyhaul3407 Жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching. It is a company tractor. When they buy new no, they don’t take the time to ask us what we want. However if a driver quits and we would prefer his truck than we often get a choice and seniority wins. Right now we have Kenworth, Peterbilt and Western Star so a bit of variety.

Yes exactly when we need the rear steering hydraulic system the gas engine is left running. On the highway is is no longer needed so we turn the gas engine off

It's really hard to comprehend the number of big trucks on the road in the NJ area. Unbelievable for a country boy.

Are these trailer decks specifically made for these rail cars , the way the cars wheels fit perfectly then you had that adapter thing you bolted down basically like a wheel chalk . Or did it so happen to just fit that way and that is how you and your company transports these ?
@luckybananaheavyhaul34072 ай бұрын
We had 6 trailers custom made for this project. There were a total of 250 rail cars that needed to be transported

I have a question when you need fuel do you drag the wagon with you or do you drop it and rehook 😊???
@luckybananaheavyhaul3407 Жыл бұрын
Depends on the fuel stop. If I can access the pumps without detaching than I will. And back out after because we usually don’t fit between the pumps or under the overhead. But most of the time we end up having to drop the trailers and bobtail to the pumps. Often we don’t even fit in the truck stop at all so we will drop at a rest area and bobtail to the truck stop.

You said it. A lot of people don’t realize it takes a different set of skills to do this kind of work. It’s all about communication, team building and trust. You can be a great driver but if you can’t work with the escorts, steerman and sometimes police then you won’t get far.

Just wondering why theses were shipped by road and NOT A RAILROAD ?
@luckybananaheavyhaul3407 Жыл бұрын
Something about them not being certified to run on tracks in North America until they get a bunch of work done on them. True or not it puts food on my plate so I’m not complaining.
@louisletourneau3429 Жыл бұрын
The only way to send it by rail is on a flat car , they have the same gauge wheels/axles ( 4' 8 1/2" gauge ) but they are light rail cars and cannot be near or on the same track of real railroad cars , they do not also have the same kind of couplers

I’ve been trucking for over 30 years and have pulled twin 48 liquefied gas tanks out west and the last 6 years doubles and triples for UPS but when I grow up I want Doug to train me on how to turn corners…. And drive like a professional, It’s like art, except for that freakin squeaky clutch pedal😂
@luckybananaheavyhaul340711 ай бұрын
I’ll take the compliment ☺️
@andrep82877 ай бұрын
@scottfisher2814....the squeaky clutch pedal proves that Doug is using it, because he believes in the principle that "if God had meant for a truck to be shifted without a clutch, He would have given it an automatic tranny" (at least, that's what I tell my drivers).

@@luckybananaheavyhaul3407 and what a brilliant job they did as well - stayed close, gave good feedback on the turns and moved out early to block off lanes - great work. Not sure on the instructions that might have been given to the lead pilot during some of the timelapse footage but, to me, they always seemed too far ahead and allowed a lot of traffic between them and the load.
@luckybananaheavyhaul3407 Жыл бұрын
I often push my lead pilot out to maximum radio range. His job is not only to warn oncoming traffic but also to warn the truck of obstacles ahead. The sooner he can call out obstacles the more time I have to react.

What a very impressive finely choreographed dance! Nice work gentlemen, plenty safe and not a scratch on it I bet. I'm sure it's a great treasure to be working with your Dad! Not many get to do that, and some wouldn't want to anyway lol. I used to run a lot of NY with a dump wagon, sometimes with hazmat, later on around home I moved on to heavy and oversize so I am wondering what your route was that took you to Messina! I assumed you were headed for 287 on the south side. Thanks for the videos, I enjoy any length of video, it reminds me of the good days. Be well, and stay safe.

Yes very privileged to be working alongside dad 😊 Highway 37 across the top of New York through Massena is the best route for very high loads. These trains are 14’11”. We go that way to avoid the low bridges in Albany.
