This was such a helpful review! I always have a hard time spending money and I bought one of these on eBay but considered selling it right away. After watching this, I think I’ll keep it and enjoy it!

I totally get that! It’s a very specific kind of tablet but if you’ve got a decent use case for it, it makes sense! Just got the new reMarkable Pro and… I’m not impressed. Video dropping soon.

I love mine - I used to have a notebook for each type of meeting/project - but then when pulled into last minute meetings I would grab the wrong notebook- and I get distracted easily- so for me, this works perfectly!!!

how do you deal with finding things? do you rely on multiple digital notebooks and just flicking back a few pages, or are they searchable in some way? It doesn’t seem to do handwriting recognition so I’m worried about being able to find things after taking notes
@JakeOski
@JakeOski 7 күн бұрын
@@MrKlawUK Remarkable 2 (and now remarkable Pro too) can't search inside the notes, even though it deals OK with transcribing hand notes to typed. You can only search by tags you do on notes (not automatic, you have to physically tag them), file names and folders. So they way I run my notes is that I create new notebook per meeting / project / call etc. If I've had a long meeting I just add tags. Still easier than flipping through a physical notebook but I'd love to be able to search inside the notes. I'll drop a review on Remarkable Pro soon as I'm pretty disappointed with it...

I ended up buying an iPad just due to the crazy cost of remarkable, just couldn't part with my hard earned cash for that price. I know people say it distracting etc, but hey I can watch movies, I can edit videos, I can draw and paint etc
@JakeOski
@JakeOski 3 ай бұрын
Totally get that. I always have my MacBook with me so that's sorts out the comms, editing etc. Remarkable is a very specific device and yes, the price is defo a sticking point. Loads of used ones kicking about... usually used just a few times.

I really like this review. I have seen so many reviews for products that I feel like are solving problems that are not really problems. I don't care that I can't multitask, search, copy paste, etc on paper - that's why I like paper. It forces you to slow down and be intentional. I have ADHD so any kind of digital device can very easily destroy my productivity. I still don't think the price is justified for me, as I haven't run into the same issues you had with paper. My pocket notebooks haven't gotten out of hand, but I've been using them consistently for like a year. This really does look like a great device. I've seen one in person (not actually used it) and it looked great.

Totally agree the price is fairly high for what it is. It did however became part of my edc replacing other classic notebooks as it has simplified my life. I absolutely understand the ADHD part - not a big fan of the recent fake ADHD social media wave of “influencers” claiming it’s some special power… maybe, because they don’t have it? It’s a massive PITA in everyday life. Took me 30 years to understand I have it and another almost 10 to start managing my life around it. And having people adjust their expectations to my attention span too 😂 If pen and paper works for you dude, it’s for the best! And thanks for the kind words 🤙🏻

Have you tried the Kindle Scribe? I have both the remarkable2 and the scribe and both are really fantastic, I often lean to the scribe as of late for the higher resolution and front light, it’s great to have one device for reading and writing. The downside is no quick access drawer and no finger gestures, it takes too many steps to go between notebooks or from writing to reading a book.
@JakeOski
@JakeOski 16 күн бұрын
I haven't for the reasons you've mentioned. Finger gestures are epic, I use the double tap to undo more often than the eraser. Front light would be nice but when I'm taking notes there's always enough of ambient light - I totally get your point though!
@DigiDriftZone
@DigiDriftZone 16 күн бұрын
@@JakeOski Yes, lack of gestures or favourites/recents is a pain. Such an easy thing for Amazon to add, but that's the downside of the Kindle, Amazon do not care at all about it :) It does sell for super cheap though and has many little conveniences the reMarkable lacks: front light, magnetic sleep/wake, a sharper 300 PPI display with better contrast, the case is similar (magnetic) but it''s vertical with ability to stand (love that), much more responsive when opening larger PDFs, better/adjustable contrast in PDFs, built in dictionary/spell check, better handwriting recognition, better battery life and faster charging, no subscription costs, kindle library access, support for pens with buttons (like dedicating a button for the eraser or highlighter which somewhat gets around the gestures limitation), less writing latency, sunrise/sunset auto screen temperature adjustment, etc. I bought it because it was 1/3 the price of a reMarkable2 with accessories, I just couldn't resist, and I have to say I'm pleasantly surprised and it found a place in my life alongside the reMarkable :)

First off, thanks for your video clip. I have watched many on the remarkable 2 and Type Folio. I would just like you to tell me a number between 1-10 (10 being awesome) Is this device good for writing short stories/chapters? Thank you.
@JakeOski
@JakeOski Ай бұрын
Thanks Steve! It's hard to quantify usefulness of this device - as you've seen from one of the comments, "most stupid things you can buy" and you should just use pen and paper 😂 For me, this has replaced all my notepads - so it's a 10 just as a tool for taking notes, annotations, scripts, mocking plans and risk assessments on site as I don't have to worry to much about dropping it as I would with an iPad Pro. I'd just fish for a used one to test the waters, this way you can sell it for the same price as you've got it if it doesn't suit your needs.

I have a question, I would like to receive and advice from you. I am an engineer, I am 24 and I just started working (in an internship program).Usually I work both in the office and field, I am following activities like civil work, piping and pipeline and also some QC. Do you think is worth it for me to get one? Also I need to learn a different language besides so there are a few reasons but I want to hear your advice

Can't answer that for you bud, remember that there are no additional apps for this so an iPad Pro might be a better choice?

Do you need to have the Connect Subscription to sync between the Desktop App (for Windows) and the Mobile App (for Android)? I was just wondering because it would be good if I am "in the field" to be able to review notes and confirm things that I had taken down as notes EARLIER without the need to bring along the reMarkable 2. If I can access my data from my SmartPhone and somehow it syncs. That would be great and I would use the Desktop App to take backups either locally or on Google Drive. Care to comment/reply???
@JakeOski
@JakeOski 25 күн бұрын
It syncs with their app but only the current notes. After some time they stop syncing updates if you leave the file unused for months. But usually at that time that file is probably redundant anyway. If you wanna keep working on an old file all you have to do is to create a copy and it will start syncing again. So no real need to purchase the subscription;
@questccg
@questccg 24 күн бұрын
@@JakeOski Hmm... Let's say I have like 5 to 10 notebooks all for different projects... And I work on them perhaps once or twice per week. Will they still sync because I am updating them weekly??? Or is there some kind of hard limit that after 5 months a notebook will NOT sync?! Because I'll probably add to a notebook regularly when I work on a specific project ... Just maybe not all the time but as I always do, I may come back to a project later in the week (or perhaps at worst, later in the month)??? I guess what I am saying that PAGES get old, but the notebooks will be refreshed with new pages "regularly". Will sync-ing still continue with this method of writing/editing??? Many Thanks. I've watched the video many times and I find there's new information that I learn each time I watch it.

Fantastic Video! You have a new subscriber! I ordered the Remarkable and returned twice hoping that the my IPAD m4 would finally “feel” good writing and now I am thinking getting this again 😢 - I just wish for 2 additional things - a little more connectivity to the Apple ECO - for example connecting to Apple Notes - why I drop links to multiple resources (website URLS, word Docs (without importing etc.) AND the ability to take notes on Kindle Books - Ahh First World Problems! 😂 Thank you for the Video!

Do you rate the new Remarkable Pro? I’ve just bought a Remarkable 2 (after seeing your video). The Pro is heavier and I wonder if the battery lasts as long as the R2. Anyway, I’m enjoying my R2.
@JakeOski
@JakeOski Ай бұрын
Hey! I've just ordered Remarkable Pro to compare. The battery is larger but it lasts about the same as it needs to power more power-hungry screen. Plus the weight is a trade off too, I like the R2 due to its form factor and effectively being much lighter and smaller than iPad Pro. I don't really need colours for note taking but we'll see. I'll definitely drop an honest video comparison towards the end of the month when I'll spend enough time with it to form an opinion.

Can you explain how downloading ebooks work? I know it supports pdf and EPUFB files however it won't work if they are watermarked which all ebooks are where I buy them from. How do you use it without removing the watermarking through softwares?
@JakeOski
@JakeOski 17 күн бұрын
Hey! Watermarking generally refers to adding "purchased by [your name]" info into the book, to passively discourage sharing. DRM should be something else, a technical restriction that means it's unreadable on devices without a license. It would have to be a hard DRM for it not to work, all my purchased eBooks work OK on Remarkable 2. However, double check the source of your purchase
