Remarkably Untouched Neo-Tudor House Built in 1932 That You Will Love

George's House
George's House was built in 1932 in the Neo-Tudor style.
The building is a two-storey Arts & Crafts style home and is constructed with materials such as carved stone, cast stone, textured stucco, slate and copper. It also has a high hipped roof with multi-coloured slate tiles, the front entrance has a paneled wood door and a decorative cast stone surround. A two-storey octagonal bay with a crenellated parapet and open porch on the side of the house with a roof supported by stone pillars.
The exterior of the home is quite impressive but to be honest I think the inside is what really made an impression on me. The home was meticulously taken care of over the years and it showed with many of the original design features remaining. All of the original hardwood floors were still intact and the exterior windows were all leaded glass. All of the interior doors had beveled leaded glass windows, some of which were more decorative than others. There are many more features to this home but I will let the video speak to these aspects.
Currently the building does not have a heritage designation and has been sitting vacant for a number of years now. Although historical protection has not been ruled out by the city at this point in time. From what I have read the owners wanted to subdivide the property into three lots and build at least two homes on the new pieces of land. After selling for nearly $3,000,000 a number of years ago, the property has since been listed a few times for about half the price without buyer interest.
A heritage designation for this home would be great and everything but that wouldn't stop the owners from completely gutting the inside and leaving the house as a shell of its former self. Personally I would like to see this building completely preserved by turning it into a museum but I highly doubt that would ever happen.

OMG! I LOVE Tudors and this one is incredible. I would cry to see this beautiful home end up in a landfill, it needs to be designated historical and kept in it's glory. There are so many things I adore about this home, I'd move in it in a heartbeat! Wonderful explore James!

This is a gorgeous home. Thy owners have taken excellent care of this home. The beveled glass windows and doors are exquisite. The wood work is quality work. The antique appliances are still in pristine condition. I hope it won’t be demolished. That would be a shame. You could never replace it with that kind of quality craftsmanship. I hope someone will buy it and love living in it. I LOVE this home. Thank you for showing it to us.

🤦🏻‍♀️are developers the only ones able to buy houses anymore? All this talk of conserving and recycling is exactly that. Talk. This is a beautiful well built home with craftsmanship and quality. Glad you documented this. Soon that’s all these homes will be-videos on KZbin.😢

Very true and that's exactly why I enjoy doing this, i consider it doing society a service. 😂 The reason so many properties are bought by developers here is because we are in a housing boom and have been for like the last 10-15 years...there are just too many people moving to the area. Glad you enjoyed it Sue and thanks for the comment!!

The glass in the doors and windows is totally awesome! The kitchen and its appliances are amazing too. The staircase was well crafted! The basement would be awesome for storage! The built in cabinetry was beautiful! The master bedroom and bathroom were nice but I kinda like the little green room all by itself! I will take it if they don’t want it! I wouldn’t change anything except maybe fit it with central heat and air.

I loved absolutely everything about this house, all the wonderful details. The upstairs was a little on the bland side but the windows, trim work and doors were still very nice. @John Wagner That's how it should be. Unfortunately, it's common for developers to buy properties that contain heritage listed homes and then allow the home to deteriorate and fall into a state of disrepair. At some point the developer files a request to have the home removed from the heritage list and we all know what happens next.

AS a realtor this house really has the wow factor across the board and when you see the craftsman in regard to stairs and moulding is just so inviting I just love the effects of the 30s 40s era ,there is no way that this should be demolished or eliminated,I would think the total value or market with the decor being of a European type construction would be in the millions ,its unfortunate that people dont ever really consider the monetary value or aestetic value ,someone could investigate the history of the house and worth ,its an amazing find

Hi James I love this house. Those glass interior doors were beautiful. The staircase was also a beauty. The kitchen was nice but who puts carpet in a kitchen and I didn’t care for their choice of a table. The refrigerator was real small. That one would never work for me. That stove was clean as a whistle. Whoever owned this house treated it as if it were gold. This must have been their dream house and they loved it. The only thing I saw wrong with the place is all those nasty cobwebs. There was absolutely nothing wrong, no fallen ceilings no mold so why tear it down? It’s a perfectly good house. Do you know why the owners moved out? Just another case of a RICH builder who wants to build something even bigger. That’s is so stupid. I can go on and on the fact remains the wrecking ball awaits this beautiful house. Sorry I was so long winded it just makes me sad. Thank you James for showing us this beauty. I love old bathrooms and the old style bathtubs. But she didn’t really look at the bathtub, so I was disappointed in that.

Houses with hot water radiator pipes for heating are still the best than gas or oil?! 😉👌

I don't know, they aren't as common these days. I think replacing the boiler is a lot more expensive than just getting a new furnace but they probably last longer too. Thanks a lot for the comment!!

Where is it located? Also what's the difference between Tudor and Neo-Tudor?
@StaticSpaces

It's in Canada. My understanding is that Neo-Tudor is an style that immigrates the original Tudor style of architecture. Thanks very much for the comment!!

It's great news that the greedy people who bought this place for 3M have lost their ass on the place and now cannot get even half of what they put in it! Now's the time to push for heritage designation that should prevent the current owners from destroying this majestic house!

I think the city is waiting until before the development plans are released to designate it. They wanted to subdivide the plot into three pieces, which i think may have happened already and could be the reason for the lower price. Glad you enjoyed this one Bill and thank you very much for the comment!!

A “developer” bought it? Well that’s too bad, we know how it will end… 😔

Well sort of, it's fate isn't set in stone yet. The city was talking about designating the house before anything significant is done to it. We will see what happens. Thanks very much for the comment!!
