Scripture Text: Esther 1
In this message, Pastor Baldwin rehearses the history of the Persian King Xerxes and his invasion of Greece. He reviews the Battle of Thermopylae against King Leonidas and the Spartans and the sea Battle of Salamis against Themistocles and the Athenians.
King Xerxes was King Ahasuerus in the Book of Esther.
He shows how Queen Vashti was the first notable woman to stand up for the dignity of women throughout the world. And how her example was instrumental in many history-changing events in the future. Vashti is truly one the Bible's "Iron Women."
He also shows the relationship between Xerxes' son Artaxerxes (a good man who believed in religious liberty) and America's founding-especially regarding the influence Artaxerxes had upon Roger Williams, the founder of Rhode Island and America's Baptists.
