Obi-Wan Kenobi That show was simply amazing. It reminds me a lot of the Clone Wars; it started out as sort of a kid’s show, but as the seasons went on, the episodes got darker. In one of the final episodes, I remember Velma’s friend being executed by evil Nazi robots, which was pretty morbid.

I actually got a little emotional watching this. I remember watching all of these movies as a kid, and the whole bit about how walking away from them hit me hard. I've only recently started returning to the things that made me happy as a kid as a disillusioned 20 year old. I returned to my greatest hyperfixation, Godzilla, last year during lockdown and have been trying to find the things that make me happy now, and surprisingly? Not a whole lot has changed. I love your vids and this one somehow brought me to tears.

I grew up with a mix of the classic Scooby Doo, What's new Scooby Doo, the live action films and these films. The nostalgia is strong and for how repetitive it was the atmosphere was second to none for me. I got back into it with Mystery Incorporated which I really enjoyed especially the extra personality added to characters especially best character Velma. Then I saw the latest series and lost all interest again.

Classic Scooby Doo movies like these will definitely always hold a place in my heart for going against the previously established flat characters and repetitiveness of the series. BUT I do have to stand up for Mystery Incorporated, because that reincarnation did a really good job of adding complexity to the mystery while still respecting the past the characters had of unmasking real people. To a certain extent it held up the basic character archetypes, but it did a pretty good job of giving each of them both a better backstory and personality that made them complimentary members of the team while also making them individuals with their own desires and goals. It's probably one of my favorite adaptations of the classic mystery gang, and it's worth checking out.

I'm 26 years old now and I still, hands down, say the best scooby doo movies were these 4 movies, with Zombie Island being my absolute most favourite one because they experimented with having the gang being in a more dire, scary and serious situation. The zombie pirate in the pit with Scooby and Shaggy..... that scared me when I was little, but I still loved it. Hell, they play Scooby Doo on Zombie Island every year on TV around Halloween time, and every year I watch it just because of the nostalgia and how good it is compared to the recent movies. I really wish they would go back to the more serious tone again, we need more 'real' monsters in the movies.

I liked it a lot because of the whole concept of going into cyberchase, it's funny we have VR now and it's annoying, but as a kid it was such a cool concept to me, and it was also a big trend in the 2000s like it was in Fairly Oddparents, Teen Titans, and the ironically named Cyberchase is a whole show about it, I just really loved stuff like that as a kid, I also really loved all the different worlds like a real video game and how they met their past selves, but I always wondered why did past Shaggy have a red shirt lol?
@icantthinkofaname10096 жыл бұрын
Past Shaggy had a red shirt and blue jeans because it’s what he wore during the 13 Ghosts of Scooby-Doo and a trilogy of 80s movies (Boo Brothers, Ghoul School, Reluctant Werewolf). The other characters looks have been updated over the years, but the green t-shirt and brown pants have mostly stayed the same since they’ve never felt outdated. So when they had to come up with past Shaggy, they found the only other look he’d ever had. As a kid that had watched everything Scooby-Doo related that I could get my hands on, I always thought it was a neat little reference since the series and the movies with him in the red shirt weren’t very popular.

I like this video BUT I disagree that Scooby-Doo is only pandering their demographics now. And I specifically mean by using footage of Mystery INC 32:00 (2010) when making the pandering statement. I seriously doubt that anyone who actually watcHeD that series would disregard it so quickly. The lightning and animation of that show is gorgeous. And the storytelling is AMAZING and it pays homage to hannah-barbera and the films mentioned in this video. It’s a meaningful and charming tribute to everyone who watched Scooby-Doo as a child. If anyone misses the charm of these films I recommend Mystery Incorporated. It has a monster every episode aND an overarching mystery that spawns throughout the show. It gets dark as characters actually....die. but I strongly recommend it. It has a really big following. It has its faults but really do really check it out.

Ironically, using Mystery Inc to say "it went commercial and lost the magic of the old" is off the mark considering it's one of the best send ups to Scooby, the horror genre, hanna barbara, and in general is probably the best iteration since the original series.
@LeopoldLitchenstein6 жыл бұрын
Exactly, if anything, the DTV movies after around maybe the mid 2000s are a better example, because they're kind of hit or miss from what I hear, with recycled ideas from various cartoon series becoming full on plots for films (meeting KISS, Adam West's Batman, etc.). Not to mention the ones from 2004-2009 feeling more like extended episodes of What's New, Scooby-Doo (mainly due to the artstyle) set in the DTV universe where the monsters are real rather than that show's continuity where the monsters weren't real. Best part of the films after that era of the DTV movies are the spot on cast reprising the roles they've had since 2002 (though post Be Cool that's sadly changed since Mindy Cohn has been replaced), with Matthew Lillard's Shaggy and adopting Derrick J. Wyatt's artstyle from MI mixed with the classic character designs.

Man, it's amazing that Frank Welker has been voicing Fred since he was in his early 20's. The guy is now 72 and he's still consistently been playing Fred. You have to respect that more than anything. I always loved these four movies, and it's great to see such a clever comprehensive done on them. Zombie Island in particular has some pretty damn spooky imagery, and I remember Alien Invaders really messed with my head, just cause the whole conspiracy aspect to it and the odd way the girl acted stuck out to me (only Shaggy is allowed to act like it's still the 1960's). Witch's Ghost was a lot of fun and that twist was always something I loved even as a kid (that and I thought the Hex Girls were cute); and seeing Scooby Doo get so meta with Cyber Chase was always really enjoyable, to me; since I also watched so many of the various television incarnations (including the classic show). Great vid, man. I find it interesting that you're from the UK and picked these four in particular, as I recall Boomerang would very often replay these four and only these four. Maybe you watched them in different ways, but for myself, Boomerang was how I saw them.

Shame that Mary kate and Casey and the og Scooby voice are all dead ...once frank retires the franchise should die ...

Asmosis Jones I don't think that the franchise will die when Frank Welker dies.

I think it's interesting how his voice hasn't aged much since the 60s. He still sounds so young. Yet, when Shaggy and Daphne had their old actors/actresses come back to reprise their roles, they sounded way too old to be in their late teens.

Zombie Island and Witch’s Ghost were my absolute favorite during my childhood (I was obsessed with Scooby Doo then). I never watched the other two more than once, though. A surprisingly enjoyable diamond in the rough- albeit a lot of rough- is The Thirteen Ghosts of Scooby Doo.

The first four direct-to-video movies will always be very nostalgic to me, and I will always love the 7 direct-to-video movies that use the "What's New, Scooby-Doo?" animation style.

Great editing great idea great clips to illustrate his points great pacing good jokes well timed brakes toned down accent nothing forced feels real yet also scripted which is a good thing not just random in the moment thoughts great perspective good video ..this is what KZbin was made for .not reaction videos or reviews with a stand still image or retrospectives filled with personal bkased opinions one way or the other ...no hate or over praise in this review which is rare now a days ..usually everything has to be great or its shit according to kids now a days ..he told the plots reveals in the fastest simplest way possible rather than give opinions to weigh it down and he made it engaging ..he earned a subscriber from this...great video

Although I loved all four movies. Cyber chase has to be my most memorable one. Maybe because it came out when I was the right age or that it was just on more often. I honest want to watch cyber chase again since it brings back so many good memories of my childhood.

I had goosebumps the whole time, just remembering how good I had it as a kid. No matter how tough things were, I had movies like those to keep me positive. This video was extremely well made and kept me invested from beginning to end

Also, I love how the commerical for Alien Invaders has a very X-Files vibe

You say that as if they didn't literally use a mock version of the theme in the commercials.

"Or maybe there's oil under the island!" Silly Fred, if that was the case then it wouldn't zombies flooding the island. It would be the US military all over the island.
