Little background on the Toad struck by lightning line for anyone interested. There was initially supposed to be a running rivalry between Storm and Toad throughout the movie where’d he say things like “do you know what happens to a toad when it’s cornered” or “do you know what happens a toad when it senses danger” so Storm’s one liner to him was intended to be a way of her telling him to shut the hell up about toads, but then all the preceding lines were cut but the final one was left in, just making Storm look like an idiot.

23:42-24:10 this scene IS consistent with Magneto and I really like it. The interesting about Charles and Magneto is despite being arch enemies they still consider each other as best friends. At the end of the day both of them do want the same thing, mutant freedom. But while Charles wants equality for both mutants and humankind, Magneto wants mutants to be the dominant race. And despite that Magneto is willing to sacrifice Charles for his goals, he still cares for him and knows that his heart is in the right place. So when Pyro is belittling Charles saying he wanted to kill him, Magneto takes that personally because he still valued Charles for who he is and what he had done for both him and other mutants. It also shows that Pyro doesn’t share Magnetos ideals for mutant freedom, he only joined Magneto so he could continue bullying the weak.

@b_delta972511 ай бұрын
... but pyro just said he wanted to kill him, the scene is really stupid because Magneto shouldn't been mad about that, and as Marcus says it's not subtle at all, there's been PLENTY of media that shows the villain somehow respecting the hero, the whole Joker/batman dynamic is like that And here Magneto should reply something like "he'd beat your ass" while smiling (and fancier wording because it's magneto), that would make sense because Magneto respects Charles but doesn't want him alive, heleaves him to die in a previous movie. As a comparison, if you've seen Jojos, Dio and Jonathan have this same dynamic, Dio is a crazy villain but doesn't want anyone to disrespect Jonathan's strength despite wanting to kill him, however Jonathan earned Dio's respect before and he openly says he wants to be the one who kills him, and in this trilogy it doesn't look like Magneto gives a shit about that, again he does respect Charles but Pyro isn't really disrespecting him, that's what should be written but the writers for this movie weren't smart enough to make the dialogue make sense Also, another detail, the relationship between Charles and magneto does look like one from best friends in the comics and in X-men movies after the third one, but not in this original trilogy, at least in my opinion I did feel like I started seeing the respect they had for each other in First class
@You-Tube-n5k11 ай бұрын
I think the issue is more that the movies weren't able to strike a proper balance between Magneto and Charles's hero/villain dynamic and friendship. Especially in the third movie. Sometimes they feel like they're people on different sides of a conflict who respect each other, and sometimes it just feels like a standard hero vs. villain dynamic. It works for what it is, but I can definitely see how that line could be jarring since it's hard to really tell how Magneto wants to deal with Charles at times.

@@b_delta9725it’s very important to remember that even though magneto left Charles to die it was only after Stryker was about to use Charles as a weapon to kill every mutant on earth and Mags had rewired cerebro to target every human instead. This was more so a response to Magneto and Charles’ passiveness with humans allowing a human to manipulate two strong mutants into ending mutant kind through the use of a mutants ability. I love these movies for that reason lol. The only difference is that a chunk of them are better than the entirety of the MCU… and a good chunk of them are worse as well lol. I honestly think Logan, First Class, and DoFP are genuinely better than the whole MCU. X1-2 are also better than most of the MCU in my personal opinion. Apocalypse and Origins Wolverine aren’t good but I enjoy them no matter how trashy and schlocky they are. Deadpool 1+2 and The Wolverine are good enough. Rest garbage. I honestly think the DCEU is similar to a lesser extent. The Suicide Squad, Wonder Woman and Shazam are all better than your average MCU movie (TSS is better than all of them, in my opinion). I don’t like the Snyder films but at least they are interesting. Birds of Prey and Aquaman are good enough. Rest garbage, again.

One of most irritating things in these movies for me is that they never once got Jean Grey right. I’m not gonna act like she was a phenomenal character or anything but she served as a clear and important role in the team dynamic. She was like the counselor of the group, someone who could read minds and sometimes uses it to attack but more often to heal. She helps people out by listening to them and being the words of kind wisdom. That’s why the Phoenix saga left such an impact, not simply because it’s a cool cosmic villain who could destroy planets, but because Jean was someone so understanding and patient suddenly transforming into a power hungry mass murderer was very jarring to witness. But in the films even when she’s played well, she’s still either just the prize or crazy. Just because other characters are drawn to her for no reason doesn’t mean we will be drawn to her for no reason.
@RSATT012 жыл бұрын
Having a more accurate Jean that falls apart from the Phoenix Force would actually be good if she was developed at all. There's a great scene from one of the comics where she's threatening people trying to attack the X-Mansion by saying that she can make them piss and shit themselves and destroy them from the inside out with her mind.

The Storm line was actually written by Whedon who did some script doctoring, and was supposed to be a payoff to a deleted scene. Fun fact, the train scene in Dark Phoenix was a last minute reshoot. The reason Dark Phoenix worked in the comics is Jean was basically the protagonist of all those stories, and they built up to it. Also the movies make the story about how it affects the men in her life while the comics were explicitly about her.

My biggest issue was Mystique’s benevolent attitude, when she’s a villainous henchwoman throughout the first trilogy, and a chaotic rogue through most of her comic ventures. It’s hardly believable that Jennifer’s Mystique was actually out for Trask on her own after being so impactful to the X-Men. We really should have gotten more villainy and melodrama, with a touch of anti-heroine from a Mystique in her prime. With her mimicry, lifespan, ambiguity, and chaotic nature I think she’s one of the most sublime plot devices to introduce mutants back into Marvel Cinema. She could have very easily been caught up in instances like Black Widow or Captain Marvel where her abilities are mistaken for Skrulls or espionage extraordinaire. As a shapeshifter, the entire arch and thrill of the idea is that they could be anyone at anytime doing the absolute worst as a doppelgänger and while Mystique uses major identities at key moments like Trask, Lady Deathstrike, and Senator Kelly, it’s for pivotal plot moments that support the greater, never for Mystique’s ulterior motive.
@peachii39912 жыл бұрын
Apocalypse has a soft spot in my heart just because I loved quicksilver, but I will NEVER forgive the directors for setting up an arc for him (always being to late to tell Magneto he’s his son) only for him to chicken out so Mystique almost dying can be the push that forces Erik to switch sides. Then the next movie they literally throw him to the sidelines, and his arc never gets explored again. Like, excuse me? I have horrible taste in movies and really low standards, but even I’m annoyed with how that was handled. Mans was literally carrying the movie on his back and got nothing for it.

Her ability to take powers from mutants is cool but she has to get close enough to touch them first. After years of puzzling over it, I finally came to the conclusion that the prequel movies (after First Class) were brought down by one singular thing: casting Jennifer Lawrence as Mystique. It wasn't her or her performance, it was the actual role she was given. Jennifer Lawrence's star power essentially required her to be one of the main focal points, and Mystique is not a role that should've been that. Everyone's weird obsession with her had to be forced, in addition to the fact that she's someone that the studio wanted us to see, playing a character who either needed to be in full makeup/prosthetics or portrayed by someone else. It didn't make sense. I keep thinking to myself that if they'd just deleted January Jones entirely and had Lawrence play Emma, then everything would've made sense-- the flippy/floppy between the hero/villainous side but ultimately being a hero, everyone's obsession with her, her leading the X-Men on and off, all of those are characteristics of Emma. I hate these movies.

His Mutation was initially just his Beast feet, and in First Class he wanted to suppress that and have normal feet. He used Mystique's DNA to do it with her cell altering ability to physically rearrange the structure of his feet, and it backfired on him at first and enhanced his mutant cells which progressed his mutation's evolutionary goal. So when it comes to Charles' spine, he used a similar serum, which has the same effect. It suppresses Charles' mutation (his Mind powers), but also alters the bone structure in his spine so his nerves and spinal cord are put back together and it enables him to use his lower body again. It makes absolute sense, but the explanation isn't as deep as it should have been. TLDR; Beast's X-Gene suppression Serum uses Mystique's DNA to rearrange and transform cells, and Charles uses a modified version to repair his spine, which supresses his X Gene as a side effect

"For some reason Nightcrawler disappears after this movie." There are two reasons for that. 1) Alan Cumming didn't enjoy the four-hour makeup/prosthetic application process, and wasn't even sure he'd come back for the next one. 2) When Brett Ratner took over X3, script changes made Nightcrawler's part so minimal, that Cumming really didn't see a point in subjecting himself to that process again, and bowed out. The tie-in X3 game explains his absence as him being a peaceful mutant, not a fighter, so he leaves the X-Men or something like that.

If you ever feel like it, I recommend getting around to the "Rogue Cut" of Days of Future Pass. It's surprisingly quite different to the actual cinematic version, not Snyder cut level different, but different enough. It's highly debated whether it is or not better than the original version, some people claiming it's miles better while others claiming it's quite pitiful in comparison, but I'd love to hear your thoughts on it at some point. :)
@soxinsinglets2 жыл бұрын
I loved this version. I hired a cinema room for my birthday and threw that Blu-ray on for all my friends to watch with me hahahahaha. I believe the director said the Rogue side plot would have slowed down the momentum of the story which is why we got the original version.
@oscarm40952 жыл бұрын
I think he watched the Rogue Cut since he showed some scenes of Rogue being rescued and Iceman dying then and there as well as that steamy scene between Hank and Raven. Don’t make a claim without details to back your shit up. Jackman isn’t a golden god, so don’t get me wrong. He was never my choice for Wolverine…and YES. 23:48 Okay, I think you've kinda gotten it slighty wrong here. I think this scene is rather good, actually, because it's not that he "cares", as you've put it. It's that he has respect for Charles, because, at the end of the day, he is right. Charles DID do a lot for Mutantkind. And Magneto respects him for it. He may not agree with his ways, or for his fondness of non-Mutants, but he respects his work of helping actual Mutants. Again, he doesn't care about Charles. He just respects him on a base level. Definitely respects him more than he'd respect a random lackey who's just there to follow orders, but of course not enough to not sacrifice him for the "greater cause". And I'd say it's been consistent as well, considering how often they did talk as "old friends" whenever they did.
