I could have sworn that in the original Zombie Island Simone implied that the treasure was real but over the centuries they had used up that treasure to basically upkeep their island, and I believe pay off people. Since I think they also imply something about them originally killing or paying off ferrymen, until (I think it's) Jacque became the ferryman who just wanted to be immortal so they turned him into another cat creature.
@zairnermuller49604 жыл бұрын
I think they were so out of touch with the original movie. And I don't know what the hell happened with Velma's Shaggy's and Scooby's voices, they're so bad in these movie. Velma sounds very annoying and Shaggy doesn't really sound like him. They should've rehired Billy West and Scott for their roles, I think they did better than whoever is voicing scooby and Shaggy these days

@@zairnermuller4960 Doesn't help this was basically a sequel to "Curse of the 13th Ghost." Oh you didn't know? Yeah thanks to "Happy Halloween, Scooby-Doo!" and it's """"villain"""", it's a trilogy. One made up of 2 retcon movies that basically slap the face of the original fans of both the 13 Ghosts show and Zombie Island because WB has this weird vendetta against having real paranormal activity be confirmed in this series having to keep defaulting to "capitalists in masks", and a 3rd movie that's basically a knock-off version of Billy & Mandy's Halloween TV special (that also has a moment to say "paranormal stuff in Scooby is stupid") which felt like was ham-stringed together into being a mystery plot at the 11th hour. But also all 3 of these movies are just badly written movies, and worse written mysteries so I'm willing to just not count any of them as even CLOSE to being GENERALLY canon to the overall franchise. Fuck this recent "Smug, Know-it-all, Ghosts aren't real (lest my brain melt into goo)" Velma we've had to suffer with.

Got this movie hoping it would be even more grim than the prequel. I was thinking maybe they'd be sailing out to sea and a storm comes and they get completely shipwrecked or something. The main villain would end up being the cat God itself referenced from before, with a burning desire to kill the gang for what they did to it's followers. At every night, the zombies of cats, and maybe even souls of the madame, her servant, and the ferry driver would try and drain the gang's lives so they could come back to life. The only way to be spared the cat God's wrath is to find and decipher a book from somewhere in their mansion that has an incantation to destroy the cat God once and for all. No. What we got instead was bs.

@Mr. Dewott75 True that's a option aswell ,but I doubt they'd risk alienating a audience that grew up with a old series like the 13 ghosts of Scooby Doo or the Zombie island movie given these people might have kids themselves, unless they see the possible profits more then the money they lose from turning any older fans away and thus by making the movies that retcon the matters of supernatural and ghosts can easily be a choice to get easy cash by releasing the old series and movie in another country with the countries that have strict rules/laws on supernatural and ghosts aswell as the dead by reasoning that'' Oh they aren't really the dead or supernatural see these new movies show they are just something else.''

"Pretty lame" is for me putting it far too mildly - in my book, that should be legitimate grounds for filing a lawsuit. Making a sequel which is an embarrassing successor to the original is something that can be quietly ignored or derided, but the way this film suggests the monsters in the original might have been a Scooby Hoax the entire time is an outright abomination (seriously, the 'Scooby-Doo' franchise should take after 'Mystery Incorporated', the first live-action movie and the original 'Zombie Island' in finding clever ways to dial down or phase out that dated it-all-had-a-non-supernatural-explanation twist) . I'm shocked, disgusted and appalled that this film actually wound up this way. I honestly felt like a piece of my childhood had died when I read this film's ending on Wikipedia, and said piece of my childhood is only slipping between life and death while undergoing CPR, due to reading up on the sequel's canon discrepancies with the original which suggest it might be legitimately non-canon to the first film. WB had better either say officially that this sequel is non-canon to the original homevid movies, or make a third 'Zombie Island' film solely to retcon this film and/or re-confirm the original 'Zombie Island''s monsters were real.

THANK YOU for that intro. I can completely understand why some people wouldn't like stuff like the sequel trilogy of Star Wars going on right now or the She-Ra or Carmen Sandiego reboots on Netflix, but all this hubub and storms we see about how these products "RUINED" such and such or "DESTROYED" such and such forever are pretentious and way too overblown. None of the past said products are perfect, but, at most, they were series that at least tried to do something that didn't click with many people that clearly still have a lot of effort and thought put into them. Even if they seem misplaced to some people. But if there is anything that "RUINS YOUR CHILDHOOD" it's not past said movies or shows that were previously mentioned. It's stuff like this. They didn't even TRY with this one. I'd much take something that tries to break a mold and doesn't succeed than from something cheap and rushed out that doesn't seem to care about what it's doing other than being something to come and go and spend cash on. Trust me, stuff that you think "ruins your childhood" can be out there, but it's not what all those gifting channels are currently going on and on about like a broken record player. It's crap like Return to Zombie Island...
@cinematicsterling68973 жыл бұрын
how dare they do a sequel to zombie island and NOT bring back detective beau neville?
@Sandstormer93 жыл бұрын
To be fair, none of the other three films mentioned him either. In fact none of the four movies had much connection with one another. The closest form of continuity was that the gang accepted that witches, aliens & phantom viruses exist without going over the all monsters aren't real spiel routine as seen in Zombie Island. That's perhaps my only true complaint I had with the Zombie Island-Cyber Chase era. They themselves weren't embracing the shared universe idea like with the case with the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Would've been cool to see not only the gang continuing with their documentary series, but also keep in touch with the people they come across. Maybe if these movies came out now, the writers would've considered these things more. And I 100% agree with you, how on earth did they not hire an in-universe actor for detective Beau, did the writers of RTZI forgot about him? Loved the twist of him being an undercover detective. Because to not have a government official in the film would've raised questions. Like how on earth, the cat creatures were able to get away with their crimes without drawing suspicion from the local, state or federal authorities. Sooner or later, Simon, Lena & Jacque would've had a far harder time continuing their life style without the government going over to their remote island.
@misterjt9615 жыл бұрын
I like how the movie implies society as a whole just went "meh" to the idea of real zombies, chimeras, and eldritch cat gods capable of granting mortals eternal life. Personally I would've done the film as: a developer wants to build a resort on the island, gang goes back to warn them for once, developer is actually looking for the treasure which is why he's only building on the possible burial sites, SURPRISE cat people are still there because someone else found the idol and knew the story from the gang's adventures, hilarious chases and bitchin new soundtrack ft. DJ Khalid, idol gets destroyed, Freddy and shaggy make out.

I agree, but my problem is the people they caught. Many of it are really stupid such as the protester guy from university is going to ruin environment to save it, or the mom who tried to attack the gang cause velma accused her son. The overarching mystery is good, but many of the episodic mystery are just like wtf. The characters always appear again and each time they have a random character appear we already know they are the villain and their reasoning is just stupid.

Technically, this also chronologically takes place after Scooby-Doo and the Curse of the 13th Ghost, the movie that "concludes" the story from the 13 Ghosts of Scooby-Doo. From what I've read, the reason that the gang is retired from solving mysteries is because prior to the Curse of the 13th Ghost, they captured an innocent man and the sheriff forced them to retire.

That whole scene where they recounted what happened in the OG movie really, really rubbed me the wrong way. The most notable detail was that it really tried to hammer in that the gang are teenagers?? When no?? They were adults in the first movie. They had legit JOBS. Now I love this era of movies. Don't love them more than the 90s/early 2000s movies, because I think those older movies have the charm that I really, really love and want from this franchise, but these movies are fun. They're made in earnest, and they are charming in their own ways. But OH MY GOD. They keep wanting to have the gang be teenagers. And, okay, yeah, the original show had them be teenagers, but then again it was never truly explicit in their ages. Hence why there's so many incarnations of them as young adults. I just. It's so weird to me that they keep hammering the age. I dunno why but it does. ;_;

There was absolutely no reason for a sequel to Zombie Island! Like seriously who was asking for a sequel? I know we're in an age where remakes and sequels are prevalent because nostalgia sells better than sex, but the Scooby Doo franchise has thrived for decades because it itself is nostalgia.
