I wish i could sit with Alan Watts for a few hours
@alexscott1257Ай бұрын
I would too but your comment made me think. Through KZbin we can all sit with him for a few hours. We can't ask him questions but we can listen to his wisdom any time that we like.

When he said that every creature and every race believes it needs to go on, I paused the video, and just thought about that on my morning walk home, we all believe that we ought to exist forever, and my conclusion is that this belief was born from a fear of death, but without death, life becomes meaningless in the first 2 centuries, nothing is precious anymore, because eventually you'll experience everything that could ever be experienced, and nothing disappears forever, the truth is, to me at least, that we ought not go on, because that would be the end of bravery and the end of meaning.
@Gigusx3 ай бұрын
Why 2 centuries? Why not 20 years, or 2 years? Why not 2 months? As long as life and history continue, we'll find new things to experience. And if time can't give us those things then we'd run out of new things to possibly ever experience in far shorter time than 2 centuries. Also, one could say that the point of life is to take these experience and embrace them fully as they are, without regard for time or history. Then it doesn't matter how long (or short) your life is, it'll always be as good as it could ever be and maybe it's a decent reason to want for life to continue forever.

Love Alan but I do find it a bit ironic how the titles of all these clips are never really precise descriptions of what Alan is saying, but more like a dumbed down interpretation of the person posting. His stuff is much deeper and typically too circular for these specific kinds of titles. Not sure if that’s clickbait but it is annoying.

They are all distributed networks: fishes, bee hives, families, cities, countries, organizations, corporations, entire ecosystems. In other words slow neural networks as a whole who have their own levels of consciousness and intelligence that interact and react to that without :) Even the internet and subunits of the internet, like social media complexes. Think of how they react to massive DOS attacks, power outages, or large news events.

Oh that's the zen teacher. Yeah there's tons of his lectures on KZbin. I downloaded some. He's funny and witty. But the problem is you can't fix your problems by ignoring them or not taking them seriously. Changing location is the key to changing your life. Not changing your thoughts. That's the big fallacy with the new age and spirituality movement.
