If you play bad expect bad comments out of the media because their job is to comment on what they see not to support the players confidence. When they play well they happily lap up the praise awards and money, so when you play as badly as they did not just in the last game but the last string of games and when you have no history of getting the job done in any international tournament then you can't expect the country and it's pundits to have confidence in you. But they will have this same attitude as if the media is against them and they don't understand 'modern' football until they get bounced from another tournament fire the coach and then will give no credit to the pundits who were right the whole time.

He is tight from experiencing having peaked too early in 2018 they started slow in 2021 and everyone was saying the same things about how poor they looked. If you want to be glazed until you lose then go play social football. This expectation that fans need to support in a certain way in order to not kill the players confidence is stupid. Its sports, fans are always gonna speculate who's gonna win and who's gonna lose, and you can't expect fans not to be honest and critical with the performances they see. If you need the fans to give you confidence then you should probably be a fan at home instead of a player on the field. If you don't need the fans to give you confidence then you should stop crying when they are critical. Truth is they get up in these interviews thinking how can I be as PC as possible, and aren't honest with their words at all, yet they criticise those who are . it's not about having 4 points, it's not even about the players. It's about being a top seeded team playing what I would call second rate opponents up til now and still struggling. It's the same old going 1-0 up and the sitting back mentality coming from the negative manager with ideas that are outdated. In the first game against Serbia, Kane barely touched the ball because he stayed upfront and didn't get a goal and had only one header which hit the bar, people criticised that and mocked his little impact. Players want all the money, praise and awards, but don't want the criticism when you don't play according to those standards. Fans were exactly right after the Serbia game, lack of ability to press high, players out of position and a lack of space on attack, yet when they scrap through with a 1 -0 win they treat fans as if they don't understand football saying things like 'this is modern football', or ' we have to be pragmatic with our approach to winning games' Then next game when they can't scrap through a 1-0 win the coach then say's things like ' we don't know how to press'. They treat fans as if they don't understand what they are watching when they scrap through victories, and then when they don't win they act like the criticisms too harsh. Gary literally says on his podcast before he criticises them "I hate criticising them but I have to do my job and report what I see'. Stop looking for ways to cover up your mistakes with soft and broad words in interviews and then criticise those who are giving their honest opinions.

The bottom line is the results have been pretty average and very passive for the most part and lacking creativity!!! Cole palmer coming on demonstrated that where penetrative chances started to appear almost immediately thanks to Palmer, there are some amazing young players that have been taken to this tournament and they need to be used, unfortunately despite Harry being an outstanding striker in his career he’s now looking a tad short of pace and at this level your gonna get found wanting!!! The youngsters need to be given more of an opportunity to show what they can do and Cole palmer will prove problematic to any opposition, he’s a must play!! The thing is Gareth Southgate is a risk averse manager and puts out teams that are designed not to lose but not teams designed to relentlessly attack!!!
