On "My Car Story" we're in the West Suburbs of Chicago IL on 8-4-23.
We're looking at a 1965 Chevrolet Impala SS Super Sport in Sierra Tan Paint. The car comes with the 396 CI V8 engine and an automatic transmission.
The car's Owner is Tony Munao. Tony’s had this car since 2019. Tony shares his Brother Louis was a Mechanic and got him into cars. Sadly his Brother passed away. Tony saw this 1965 Chevrolet Impala SS like his Brother had so he bought it and started a restoration on this car as a reminder of when he and his Brother used to go for rides. GREAT WORK TONY! I’m sure your Brother is looking down on you from that Garage in the sky and pleased with the work you’ve done to this car that looks showroom new.
If you LOVE the “Trunk and Treats” here is a link to the full video of all the brochures • 1965 Chevrolet Chevy D...
ENJOY!

GM’s finest moment. The cars, for years leading up to this, were also in this league. Pontiac was absolutely killer, along with Chevy and the rest, as well. The cars not only looked mind blowing, they were great driving cars and astounding values. Oh, how we never knew how good we had it. The profoundly sad thing is that cars could easily recover much of these values if the industry only had the courage to do it. After all, GM Mark of Excellence is only a brand name, right?

The 65 super sport was always special to me first one I ever seen was walking to school my neighbor had just bought a brand new one I was 15 years older to time and his was the 327 motor you could not get the 396 big block and the 65 Chevy till late in the year before that they were the 409W motor and the time they release the 396 they also made the caprice for the first time❤ GM was truly the mark of excellence in my book anyway not that Ford and Chrysler didn’t make fine automobiles but I predominantly have rolled GM all of my 70+ years

From 1957 on, each year was unique. Just as you really liked the new model, they would change it ! Each year, as a preteen of 12 in 1957, I would say, "Wow, that's really cool!" Then, the next year it looked completely different !. By the time 1965 came around, and I was 20, the Impala was a totally different car. Not much difference between the '65 ,'66,'67,'68,'69 and '70. After that, it kind of lost its place in popularity.

I looked at one of these in 1980 or so near my house. It was a light metallic blue with a 283 and Powerglide. But I seem to remember the vacuum gauge being in the console. We had rust buckets in Ohio, but this car must've come from Michigan or New York or someplace with snow and salt all winter. It still remains as the only '65 full size Chevy I've ever seen, with the little bright metal rings on the tail light lenses rusted or otherwise corroded away!! Even as a kid, I knew that a bucket of Bondo and a few trips to the junkyard would've enabled me to bring that car up to my own 14 year old standards. I think the seats were torn too, but the rest of the car was straight and in decent shape.

Beautiful 1965 Impala Super Sport. I love that Sierra Tan paint job on its exterior with matching interior. I didn't know that the 396 CI engine was available in 1965. I thought that the 409 CI engine was the only available big block option. I was thinking that the 396 came out a little later. It's a healthy sounding engine. This SS is equipped with the rare Pleasure Ride option. That car is in pristine condition, all the way down to the tags and labels in the engine compartment. A true classic indeed.

Loved this one Lou! One of my favorite cars of all time. The color is a knockout. My father was in the car business and would grab very nice trade-ins, but mostly large luxury cars. One day, circa 1973-74, he came home with a blue/black '65 Impala SS convertible! Us 3 brothers were flipping out over it! It was an auto with a 327. I can still remember sitting in the middle in the back on long rides and clanking my head on the metal speaker grille when I laid back! HAHA! Great time to be alive!

Very nice car, he was only a little older than 16, he also had a Honda 450 motorcycle. Don't remember how he managed to have possession of such nice vehicles at an early age. Lou my hats off and two thumbs up to Tony. Several things: 1. The amazing, awesome beautiful, gloriously gorgeous, magnificent, miraculous, marvelous, splendidly spectacular, stupendous, wonderfully wondrous restoration on that 1965 Chevy Super Sport. 2. He affectionately dedicated the effort job, work and time to the memories of his big older brother for caring, sharing, spending, teaching, tutoring and taking the time to show him on being an excellent and productive and outstanding automobile, automotive experienced engine and automobile auto body technician. 3. For being there for him as a big older brother which was very rare back in the day Lou, very rare indeed. How much you want to bet Lou Tony’s Big Brother is not only looking and watching but he is also smiling at his Lil Kid Brother with Pride on the person and individual that Lil Kid Brother is today. Wow! An SS396 with a PowerGlide?????? That's rare. Most with the 396 V8, except the Corvette, got the TH400 for an automatic. 1965 was the first year for it's availability in a Chevy. It was also the first year for the Caprice. Even if you had the 327 V8, you could get the TH400. I knew a guy who had one and I saw it. Years before that, I saw a 1965 Impala, not SS, with the 396, and it had a column-mounted 3-speed manual. I had a 1965 Impala SS for a short time, which I bought cheap, as a non-original car in need of a full restoration and rust repairs. It did have the full console, with PG, and a clock. That alone was worth, I was told, $600. Somebody came along and wanted it. I gave a non-negotiable price of $2K. He offered less, but as it was bought and paid for and I didn't have to sell it, I stuck to my price, and got it. That's the only car I ever made money on. Those are cool cars and you can get most any part you'd need, new. Thanks for bringing it to us.

Cool Car and cool story. When I was a kid, around 1972-73, my moms AVON lady had a similar car. I remember riding my bike up the driveway at those taillights. (it probably wasn't an SS tho) My brother was influential as well. Hello from Wisconsin

I owned 2 65 Impalas , one had the 327 and the other one was the big 396 with the powerglide transmission. Both had AC, electric windows, power brakes and washer/wiper for the windows . The SS Impala''s were the best!!! 😂👍💥💙✅🆗✅😎

Wow, I never knew that a 396 was an option in '65, for the Impala. In '65, my parents bought a new Impala Super Sport. White, with a teal roof. White interior. It had a 327 V8, and console shift automatic.

This is a special car for me. My Dad had a 66 Impala in that lighter seafoam green color. It was a car that I learned to drive in. I do prefer the 65 design, though. Where do I start with the accolades? First, a magnificent hardtop design. Simply beautiful, especially with the windows down. This car combines luxury and sport together so well. Love the air conditioning and power windows. The attention to detail is simply astounding. Tony, you are a rock star! If I was in the market for a car in 1965, this would have been it. Style, power, luxury and comfort, all at a reasonable price. There is nothing like a comfortable, full size car with power and amenities. I have a 2023 Charger and love it. Sadly, there is nothing else like it on the market. I just love your channel, Lou! I am a subscriber. Keep up the good work!

There was a local guy that ordered 1 of these new but it was the Impala only, 396/425 hp, 4-speed. Only 1 I'd ever seen in all black. Doubtful if very many were so equipped.

My brother had one also back in the 6ds and early 7ds, his had a 283 2 speed auto I remember when the car hit 100, 000 miles and never had the valve covers off he was ready to pop the Cork on the champagne. Same exact color and interior, I don't think he had AC . After he sold it in the 70ds he regretted it because he bought a Datsun b210 , I bought a 67 Camaro in 73 with 89,000 on it and I still have it today with 110,000 in the garage covered up , every time he saw mine he would reflect on his 65 and wish he would have kept it.

Sweet Impala hard top! I hope Tony has a son to hand this gem down too. I was looking for Easter egg design queues that could be in my 2019, hardly any. The Impala logo, of course, the dash spaced lettering, perhaps on exterior doors and the tan paint, LOL. Great camera work Lou!

Of course, I'm sure every ride's a pleasure in this machine! It's really splendid how Tony found just the right car to remind him of his brother. Great Video Lou...On a great car. They actually made a 325, 350, 375, and 425 horse 396. The 375 in passenger cars was actually the same Corvette 425 horsepower 396 rated at a different RPM. The crate-motor replacements carried the same part numbers. They also made an in-between 360HP not many know about. And some LoPo 2-bbl 396s that were just slugs and hated by the Magazine World.

The 1965-66 GM full size 2 door and 4 door pillarless hardtops and convertibles were among the best looking cars ever made. (Impala, Olds 88, Pontiacs, and Buicks). Even their less-expensive sedan versions like the Chevy Bel Air were pretty good looking, too.
